    quick graphic card question

continuing from the artifact problem i have mentioned last time, I sent my graphic card for replacement. But! it is no longer manufacture which newegg currently planning to offer me for refund or a comparable replacement.

my old card is msi geforce 7900GT pci-express 16x with 256MB DD3. Before I'm recieving the offer email from newegg, is there any recommendation other brand of card that has the same performance as 7900GT? I am thinking mostly newegg will offering me some sort 7900GS which I won't like it.... well, currently I'm also confusing with those ATI series tag.

most chance I think will end up asking for refund and buying a new card. And my budget is around 200-250usd, just wanna get the at least same performance as 7900GT then I will happy about it.

oh yea.... I check again, 8800GT is around 240-270 price range, which is fine for me. I'm just wonder why I keep looking at 8800GTS/GTX price instead of 8800GT >.>

you'd probably get a 30% performance increase with 8800GT over 7900GT excluding cpu bottlenecks ect.

take the refund and keep poking around for a 8800GT or! save up a bit more and get a 8800GTS 512 (which is fairly plentiful in supply)

As far as February is concerned all you'll see is the 9800gx2 and 9600gt. The 9800gx2 will cost an ass load and benchmarks have shown it wont show it's full potential (not even much past a 8800gtx) until better drivers are released which take much time.

I doubt the 9600gt will be much better then the 8800gt, if at all, in terms of performance/price.

I just received 2 8800GTs and dont really plan on upgrading anything until pci-e 3.0 comes out. Anyways, op, get an 8800GT. Newegg is dropping their prices back to realistically cheap and the price/performance ration seriously can't be matched(unless ATI gets it act together within the next 3 weeks...lol yaright).

I'd also make sure you're getting enough cooling in your case(i.e. get a pci/case fan as needed and download riva tuner to adjust the fan settings should you get an 8800GT)

Funny you mention that.....ATI Radeon 3870x2 (Dual GPU) it was released today and it's faster than the 8800GT Ultra and about 60% the price.

OMG are you telling me that a dual gpu card is outperforming a single gpu card?

besides, is it faster by what 5-10%? Unless its considerably faster its not even worth mentioning much less buying >_>

If it costs 35% less then yes, it is worth buying.

i'm getting msi 880gt from zipzoomfly instead newegg, because zipzoomfly is about 20-30USD cheaper than newegg lol... hopefully tomorrow it will arrive in my hand so i can go back dual pc in ff11 again.

    More like 110%.

Nvidia failed with the 7900 series. I'd recommend buying a 8800GT or a HD3870 if you can find a used one for around $200.
