I see that SE continues the tradition of stopping after one square-jawed male character and makes the rest into a harem of girly-boys.

Why would you prefer the previous? It's not like you have any interest in men. Besides, the fact that they are all ridiculesly good looking is unnatural enough as it is.

Just observing how unexciting the character designs are. There's only so many times I can see the 'pretty girl-boy' look without rolling my eyes and saying 'Not again!' The last time I remember looking at a console FF character and thinking 'wow cool!' was Auron's in X. That was 2001. Maybe they'll make up for the bland design with awesome characterization (Balthier). Hope springs eternal.

But what about Basch? But yea, you're right, they do overuse the pretty boys.

The one on top was x'ed, the second one worked, and I didn't even think there was a third pic. copying the first one's URL gave me a "forbidden" error page until I went to that site and actually clicked to the news article.

I'd wager they're not too far off in-game screens. They cheated a little in X with LOD switching between in-game cutscenes and the battle graphics but they all stacked up well when put side by side. I have faith that SE can pull off a similar stunt on this generation's hardware.

It's not the character models I was thinking about, but more or less the general insane quality of the lighting, and that 'pre-rendered' look to all the pictures with a visible landscape. I just can't see either the PS3 or 360 capable of rendering that fully in real-time.
(even Crysis can't look that good, and that game gives even the most powerful PCs available a run for their money)

certainly their designs for clothing, but as the faces get closer to real life quality i feel like they are drawing their inspiration from real celebrities.

Carbuncle and Siren have been around forever.

That would require them to recognize the girl's hots for him very early on. And that doesn't sit well with SE's writers.

When looking through all those screens, one resonated with me for some reason, and after some watching and digging I present you with this image that I made:

If you look at the inset pic I put in the final fantasy screen, they are both wearing similar suits, ties, shirts, and have EXTREMELY similar facial features. However the kicker for me was that they are both sitting in the same type of chair.

Final Fantasy + Die Hard.... at the same time..... A man can dream.
