Thank god that it stopped at that generation. None of my cousins or sisters smoke, we all think it's the most disgusting thing.
It's kind of funny, because what exactly made smoking less prevalent among this generation? We know the media had nothing to do with it because all the anti-smoking ads are plain ridiculous... I'd smoke just out of spite for them. We know peer pressure had nothing to do with it, since most cases of peer pressure would involve coaxing someone to smoke with relatively little pressure not to smoke. We know parental influence has nothing to do with it, since like wafik's family, a lot mine smoked, too, but I don't. The same can be said for many families. So one has to wonder what the driving influence really is. Perhaps just better education, and people are making more informed decisions for themselves, and many coincidentally come up with the notion to not smoke?
Smoking is by no means uncommon, of course, but certainly less glamorized than it was in the past couple generations. In another couple generations, the tobacco companies will probably have moved on to the fast food industry.
