    Must have missed this.

Oh wow what isn't my problem with Nomura? The fact that he went from a character designer to game director just blows my mind. Even then his designs aren't even that fucking great, watching him reiterate or should I say regurgitate the same designs with absolutely no originality. The overkill of belts and zippers is among one of the other ones, I thought it would have only stuck with Squall but once Lulu came into the picture and the other shit designs in FFX-2 it became really clear that it wasn't. I'm sick of people being so adamant that he is some genius and gift to the industry. I liked his designs in FFVII 10 years ago but now I want to see something new, not the same rehashed spiked hair designs plastered with belts and zippers. Either that or just completely throw Amano back into the big picture.

If you want originally, you should check out Kazuma Kaneko sometime.

I admire Nomura more for the fact that he went from a character designer to a fucking director AND character designer. I mean, for most people wanting to get into games design/industry that's a wet dream.

but yeah, his designs are pretty much the same, I guess it was cool the first few times but after a while you come to know what to expect, not only design wise, but personality wise as well.

I was surprised by the lack of story in DMC1, it's practically just like GoW... running around from area to area, doing random shit that mean absolutely nothing and getting 2 minutes of cutscenes every hour or so. >.>

Playing DMC2 now and enjoying it a lot more than DMC1 (perhaps because it's more pleasing for the eyes graphics wise, but the gameplay is better as well IMO and plays a lot like the DMC4 demo..)

    But yeah, are they all like this? close to no story? >.> The DMC4 trailers made it look like the story was pretty deep, gotta say i'm pretty disappointed this far. (gameplay rocks, but where's mah story.. ;

it's a hack and slash game basically. people dont play it for the story.
dmc3 has a small CS at the beginning and end of every mission tho. with 20 missions. usually 2-5min each.

You watch cutscenes to see Dante owns people, not for the story. The "story" is good because Dante is an awesome character, not because the plot is deep or complex. DMC3 did have a better story and dialogue in overall, but it's never anything complex, just something that make you want to say "Fuck yeah!" every cutscenes.

I'm not sure how long you played DMC1 and DMC2, but you cant truly appreciate DMC until you beat the game on the hardest difficulty level. DMC1 forced you to dodge everything, to anticipate attack, and to improve your skill. In DMC2,you can just play it like you would play Kingdom Heart (mashes the same button over and over). Another problem is that you couldnt juggle with most monster (golem with 3 billions hp who regen full, flying demon with annoying fireball, etc) or get high stylish chain because monsters were spread apart. As for the "story", bosses having no introduction, main story having absolutely no impact on the DMC's universe, and the completely boring main villain made it sucks. At least, DMC1 introduced Dante's brother, gaves Dante a backstory (demon father, human mother).

    [edit]
oh yeah, another thing that sucked hard time in DMC2 was the environment. Graphics might be better, but environment was so generics. Worst part was the factory early in the games

Yeah, i'm seeing that more and more as i'm advancing through the missions.

And i'm not looking for an FF story, I just thought there would be MORE of it lol... it's cool either way, because the cutscenes where he gets weapons etc. look fucking great.

I played DMC1 on normal, playing DMC2 on normal as well now.. i'll probably start bumping it up in DMC3 so i'm used to the system more or less by the time DMC4 comes out and then i'll play Dante must Die mode or w/e it's called then. I'm sure DMC1 would be more entertaining on a higher difficulty setting, but I just can't stand the low graphics lol.

I know what you mean, DMC1 is really short on cutscenes and there is little to no backstory, but it was pretty much the first game of the genre. People were much more forgiving, especially the one who fell in love with the main character.

I think you will enjoy DMC3's cutscene a lot more, but I dont want to give you the wrong idea either. There was a lot more emotion in some of those cutscenes than there is in the first 2 episodes. The formula is still the same tho. You always enter a big dungeon and progress through it solving a few "puzzles".

If you ever get the time, you should still try DMC1 at higher difficulty, but DMC3 should do the job (I thought the hardest level was more frustrating than not tho)

Exo, DMC3 is the hardest of the bunch, and you want to make sure you play the SE version. Since this lets you restart at the boss when he kills you, instead of having to play the entire level again. Also, the normal difficulty on DMC3 will definitely be difficult enough for you I would bet.

This is BLASPHEMY for DMC fans. Even though DMC had little story (still more than 2 though) it made sense and the progression was amazing. How can you even say the gameplay in DMC2 is better? They fucked the lock on systems and the environments were too big and enemies weak and often sent flying giving you little chance to combo them.

DMC1 has amazing environments with personality and great atmosphere, the enemies were superbly done with amazing detail and care taking into designing them. DMC2 has bland environments that make my eyes want to bleed, the enemies uninspiring and boring, the only enemy I found interesting was Depair Embodied and Argosax.

The story comes from little things that bring the whole situation together, reading enemy profiles gives you a little history and backstory about how the underworld is (reading the Nobody profile especially). Even though the story was thin it still had a flow and obvious goal. DMC2 was kind of random for a while and it felt like I was travelling places for the sake of prolonging game play time.

I mean, for an action game the story does a good job of pulling you from place to place willingly for some kickass game play, and you gotta love Dante's responses to every situation (I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONE TO FILL YOUR DARK SOUL WITH LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!).

DMC3 does everything right, best story so far, absolutely the best gameplay, decent enemies (fuck enigma's and fallens) and decent music (DMC1 is still the best music wise).

also, DMC1 has the best/most balanced DMD mode, DMC2 and 3 had stupid DMD modes that made the game into a smash fest with enemies having 1 million HP and DT'ing very quickly, it just made the game boring. DMC1 had enemy damage taken normal until they DT'd where their defence would go up and they wouldn't flinch at all, making killing enemies quickly top priority because if they DT'd then you'd be in trouble.

    sorry, rant off

Wow lol.. >.> didn't mean to OFFEND YOU OR ANYTHING ELCURA! ;x

Anyways, I only seemed to like DMC2 during the first couple of missions because it IS more pleasing to the eyes (the graphics got an upgrade, I mean this was made in 2003 and DMC1 was made in 2001 so there IS a difference, regardless of how repetitive shit looks in DMC2 and the dungeon was getting kind of boring after 10 missions or so.) Dante looks better too, and his movements look smoother than DMC1 as well. It also kind of plays similar to the DMC4 demo which is the FIRST time i've ever even touched a Devil May Cry game. I think the battle music is better in DMC2 too for some reason (DMC1 is too evil, DMC2 sounds closer to, once again, the demo... what can I do I fell in love with that damn demo lol.)

Anyways yeah, after progressing through enough of DMC2 I realize how it has nothing to do with DMC1 and that DMC1 DID have a better battle SYSTEM, but I wish it had better graphics lol (not that i'm one to complain about graphics since I play psx playbacks on my psp all the time, but still.. going from a ps3 demo to THAT is a pretty steep downgrade right? )

@Po, I do have the SE edition of DMC3, I bought the 5th anniversary package... it comes with DMC1/2/DMC3:SE.

    haha

well, they changed the music style in 2, then again in 3 (which I didn't really like, but it did seem to fit Dante's personality...moreso in 3) and kept it in 4 it seems. 1 had very gothic and atmospheric music that suited the fight and environment. Of course, I am a huge fan of DMC so it's natural I would think that 1 does it right and everything is a step down lol

I don't mind the graphics, I was playing it the other day and once you got into the swing of things the graphics are the least of your concerns because you become so engrossed in the game play. It's the same with DMC4, amazing graphics but you never notice them once you get into a fight (exception being Berial's nuke).

I know I bashed DMC2 a lot in that last post (rightly so) but like I did say before, it isn't a bad game on it's own, but when put next to DMC1 and 3 you sort of see why it gets all the negative comments.
