    Linkshell management tools anyone?

I'm looking around for FF management tools that help better utilize who has what amount of attendance/points for their participation in a linkshell. Rather than just update some forum post manually with points each time.

The primary points of interest that this tool would be compatible with is/are: Dynamis, Limbus, ToaU Assault-based events, etc.

It would generate a listing of players to choose from, input the points, then after a tally you can click on that player to see the amount of points/attendance, any items they've received, etc.

The tool can be of any code, but I prefer php/c/asp code just because I'm a bit more familiar with them.. I'd do it myself, but I don't have enough programming knowledge to create a working management tool.

I took a search around the forums, and the closest I could find was: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14143&start=30&st=0&sk=t&sd=a& hilit=linkshell+management

It's been over a year and all the links are dead, so I'm out of luck on that.. anyone else have advice?

Unfortunately I think you're going to find that the LSes with these types of tools have resident coders who made them from scratch. I wish I could say something more positive, maybe you will find someone who is willing to share their own database. I know that some have also used EQ DKP with success, you might want to check that out and see if it meshes with your version of points.

I thought I was reading a thread here not too long ago where someone posted what you are looking for, they used for dynamis or something. Let me try and find it.

There's always eqdkp but it's notoriously insecure.

You know, it's actually good enough, if you have enough knowledge of the data management functions Excel provides. It's far from being as complete as a database tool can be, but it's something you can set up in a few minutes, while it will take days to program something from scratch.

gdi I can't find the post, but I coulda swore someone posted a screenshot of a program they were using not too long ago. Seemed like it was in some thread where everyone was arguing over the lotting systems their linkshells use. I looked through the ones I thought it was in but I can't find it now... hopefully they will see this thread. That or I am going crazy.

    Re: Linkshell management tools anyone?

I'm really against using these sort of things...

Even if your linkshell is huge, if you're serious about gearing up a high-level shell you need to know who is playing every day and what jobs you need them on most. If people are scared that you aren't being fair with drops you are going to have a small problem on your hands- if you show them that you know they don't trust you and start counting points you will have a bigger problem on your hands.

A linkshell that does one thing though, like Dynamis, I can see this sort of thing working well... but one-purpose linkshells have some serious downsides.

Maybe reconsider using one of these. If you're running a linkshell you have to make choices for your shell. If you play active and you participate as much as or more than you want the other players to, most people will support what you do.

    Re: Linkshell management tools anyone?

My wife runs a dynamis LS and i saw her calculating points pen and pencil. So I made her a localhost website using coldfusion and mysql 5.0 as database running under IIS 6.0. Its nothing to complicated, but it saves a lot of headache and reduces mistakes a lot. Its best to write your own stuff because every linkshell is different in how things are distributed.

I don't mind sharing, you are welcome to look at the source code. Keep in mind though this is only localhost, it is only available in my home network. If you are going to do this, please take precautions with firewalls and such, if not you will be vulnerable/

    Re: Linkshell management tools anyone?

i've written a system that is php/mysql based. after i clean it up a bit i plan to release it under the gpl. (this might be a while, i'm kinda lazy)
it tracks points, allows you to assign logins, you can make event templates to make it easy to assign points to people in a group, same with distributing items at a point cost. and there is a log where you can see everything that has ever happened.
i can screenshot bits of my dev system if anyone is actually interested.

Thanks for everyone's contributions, they are most definitely appreciated.
I'm taking a look into the coding done by Sevilla, looks like the barebones of what would be typically expected for a Dynamis Linkshell.

Rasantath, please do post followups on the progression of your development. FFXI needs more management out there, I am 110% sure there are more than just me just waiting/looking for things like this to be done.

i made some screenshots of my program
the image at the top is obviously changeable for your linkshell
i blurred out a bunch of stuff too for obvious reasons.

    Re: Linkshell management tools anyone?

I have used C before, sorry i couldn't give it to you in another language. PHP i don't use as much, my unit has used it, but I changed that. Its not too hard to follow the coding. Yes, the script (i'd call it a program, but I don't think that right lol) is very basic, nothing too fancy, since only at most two people are looking at it.

For those that did not see the code, its very simple. It will give you the option to add players, specify primary and secondary jobs (as per our dynamis ls rules). Edit player's jobs, name, points, and status. One thing that i forgot to add was a comment text box so that my wife can add a little note as to why a certain player is inactive. I am going to add a column in which it will show the last day the person attended a run.

I think the best part of the little script is that it will give you the option to only show you the jobs that have drops within an area. Instead of showing you everything. I apprciate you looking at my coding btw ^^.

As for assualts, I am not sure about that. Most people only do assualts with certain people, and its usually a group of 4-6. Something like these web based scripts is too much for assualts. Excel is enough. The formula =COUNTIF("X",[cellrange]) is enough to just give you the number of X's to count the mission completed by each person.

Yes, people use point systems, but they don't half ass it like the LS's you are talking about. My wife's dynamis LS prevents a WHM from lotting RDM hat if they didnt specify RDM as a primary/secondary. Thats why the player has to specify which job they want as primary and which job they want as secondary. And face it, everyone tends to use some sort of point system, the more you come to events the more you get, otherwise people will see favortism and leave.
