Using a Proxy From Work - Question

Alright, I know roughly dildos about computers, but I'm trying to use a proxy to get around work webfilters and access guildportal forums to keep in contact with my LSes(yes I know, but noone in my LS is capable of making our own website so far as I know). I'm using youhide.com at someone else's reccommendation, it lets me access GP, and I can view the forums as long as I have no scripts on, I can start new posts, but the actual text form and all of the little post editing options I can't touch, so I can start and title a post, and post it, but I can't actually enter any text. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions, or know of a better proxy that I could use that would work for it?

    Thanks in advance.

Bunch of links right on this site...

    viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15866

Also check out clawface.com or ninjaproxy

A warning though, IT departments set up filters for a reason. If you value your job, I either wouldn't risk doing this on a regular basis or be very careful to delete your browsing history and not get a virus or anything else that would require your IT guys from looking through your computer.

    Thanks, I'll look through those.

And yeah, I delete my history daily before I leave, run virus scans every day or two, and follow the general common sense things like don't click on something you don't know and keep ads blocked, and I pretty much would only use this to access my LS's forums a couple of times a day. Any more and it would take away from BG time! :nikkei:

I can see people using proxy's on my web proxy server so I think you are going out of your way trying to get fired. If the web proxy is setup properly you are not going around at the very least logging visits to a proxy site.

clearing history / cookies etc is irrelevant since all traffic goes through the web proxy server in my case.

I've confronted two employee's already and I've told them my next step if I catch them again is to escalate to their managers (they are on strike 2 atm).

He's obviously a sysadmin though, so he's doing legit research in the highly knowledgeable BG tech forum.

Most of us here are some sort of network/computer/sys admin/enginner/support, so we can get away with it :3

Re: Using a Proxy From Work - Question

Heh, not an IT guy but just in a relatively decent position despite the fact that my pay isn't what it should be. I'm the only experienced person in a department that is working to not get downsized. Even with my dicking around online I'm easily the most productive person out of 5, my boss is aware that if I go the department fails and he loses his job as well so he covers for me, and until they give me a proper warning they really can't do much in terms of canning me without reprecussions.

That aside, I do still bust my ass, most of my time posting is done while waiting for our stupidly slow system to load pages. If we had a decent program that actually took less than a minute each time I hit a button I probably wouldn't have any time to play online. :/

From what I've heard, you can use the AOL browser to avoid filters, because it has a built in proxy or something like that. Not sure if it still works (or, for that matter, if it ever did.)

Don't touch AOL and you will be a better person.
