people curl up because they're gone. you've never seen a MMA fighter get paralyzed. there's never been a death or serious injury in MMA...there's been two fighters die from "complications" but not IN a fight. i'm sure there's been people seriously hurt or die in bullshit "fight club" style stuff, but never in organized mixed martial arts. real fighters know how to protect ourselves, at all times. if you stop protecting yourself, you're out on your feet, and the ref should step in and stop it if he's worth his while. pride allowed soccer kicks and stomps to the head while downed, and i'm not a big fan of that, but nobody ever got hurt from them seriously...just bruised up.

sakuraba did amateur wrestling, then fixed pro-wrestling before he ever did mma (like brock). same with fujita, takada, waterman, and lots of other japanese pride guys. forgot exactly who else, but you can search sherdog or the ug and find out

They are pretty similar to each other but it looked to me like Nog started to walk his body along the ground to make it an anaconda but then then Tim moved on top and it ended as a guillotine.

isn't a matter of "who's on top" but the placement of the choke. guillotine is a choke performed with the back of the opponents neck in the crook of the armpit, bicep on the side of the neck pushing on a vein or artery, and forearm under the chin on the throat, other hand grasp the wrist of the choking arm and pulls in conjunction with the muscles flexing on the choking arm.

anaconda choke is an arm triangle choke, well difficult to explain so I'll quote it
The man on top threads his arm under the opponents neck and through the armpit, and grasps his bicep. The performer then attempts to pin the bottom man onto the trapped shoulder so as to better interrupt the flow of blood, all the while applying pressure with the grasped bicep.
    similar concept to leg triangle

I realize it was a guillotine now, but when I watched it live on a internet stream it reminded me a lot of a youtube video showing the anaconda choke where there was some 'walking' towards the opponent (a bit different looking than noble's vid) while on the side that reminded me of what Nog was trying to do before the position changed. Plus he has like 2 submissions due to a anaconda choke so it just came to mind when I saw it.

Anyone know why they still charge full price for fights several weeks after? Seems stupid.

when the anaconda is executed fully...it ends with you "walking towards" your opponent.

    Re: UFC 81 Superbowl Eve

Pride had many pro wrestlers come over, ones that were coming from that being their first professional fighting experience, but for the large majority they got the shit kicked out of them. Sakuraba and a few more did have some success though, although they seemed to have primarily abandoned the silly wrestling moves and only kept good physical shape that it brought.

As for Guillotine vs Anaconda, it definitely looked like an Anaconda at some point, a friend watching it thought it was that, but in the end, you can see it was a guillotine.

You're way too lucky. The tickets almost sold out instantly as soon as they were released to the UFC Club people (I can't remember the club's name), so when I went to get a ticket when they were released to the general public there was only the nose-bleed section left. I'm not paying $400 for the nosebleeds. :s
