So i'm trying to figure out what to buy my fiancé for our baby shower in March but I really have no idea what to get. I know I really don't have to as tons of people already told me I shouldn't get anything but I feel it would be a nice thing to do. (It's a girl if that matters/helps)

And yes I know asking on the forums is pretty lol but there are tons of people here, some with kids.

I have been told get her a camcorder so she can record special occasions, baby growing up etc which is a pretty good idea and others said get her a Nameplate necklace with the babies name on but I have yet to find one that I really liked.

So any advice, ideas?

Since the shower is for your baby then maybe you can give her some trade-in coupons that you make yourself. I assume you will be sharing duties like who gets up in the middle of the night and who changes the diaper. The coupons could say stuff like "good for one night of sleep" or "good for one diaper change." You can give her 5 coupons to trade in when it's her turn to do stuff.

If you're considering a camcorder you might also consider a new digital camera(depending on how old the current one is) and/or one of those digital picture frames to go with it.

If the baby shower isn't too close to the estimated birth date, I'd recommend you sex her up because it'll be the last chance the both of you will get for a long time.

If you are going on the larger end of the scale, I'd simply recommend a P&S camera. I wouldn't go camcorder. They sound really nice, but let's be honest, amateur videos suck, and you cannot hang video's on the wall. If you feel obliged to spend more than $500, buy her a digital SLR camera. I think Canon just released (or soon to release) an DSLR Rebel XSi. Personally, I'd just go with a point and shoot pocket camera, that way you can just pop it out and click it when the baby does something cute. If the video playback is a must, you can go with a P&S camera that shoots video. May not be te greatest quality, but hey, it's video. We actually have a Kodak (I think Z1275) that will shoot video in 720p. It's a super nice camera and fairly cheap. Buy her some scrapbooking shit too if she's into that kind of thing. Another idea that fairly cheap is an EXTENSIVE baby book. I'm not talking about the little wal-mart books that have the first few months, buy her one that covers like the first 7 years. I got one that covers everything, all the usual stuff, as well as a section for illnesses, doctor visits, first haircut, your first time writing your name, etc etc. It's really sweet.

Yea I just got a pretty nice camera around x-mas time so I am ok with that. I'll probably wind up going with the camcorder I know she wants one for after the baby is born.

however one thing you might not want to do is open up too many boxes/packages of diapers you get. I know that they may be easier to store that way but you will kick yourself when your baby outgrows the newborn diapers in like 1 month and you have like 5 months worth stashed away. Save them and then just return/ exchange for the proper size for your baby girl. Actually now that I think of it DO NOT OPEN/ UNWRAP any thing in a sealed plastic or container. shit like lotions etc can be irritating to babies skin its best to open one and test before you get stuck with stuff you can't use. Also test means put a lil on the back of babies hand, its not cool to cover you baby in a lotion tat makes her skin get red and irritated, just cause it says safe for babies skin does not mean that its OK for your baby.

Then there is the big stuff that unless you have some kick ass friends/ family you won't see as a gift.

Crib, never used it was a waste of space and money but most women want their baby to have one. usually the baby just ends up in one of those smaller roll around baskets/ crib like things that can be right next to the bed.

Don't get diaper genies they usually don't work and even when they do take a shopping bag toss the diaper in it and then tie it up and toss in the the trash outside, or in the regular trash, Diaper genies really aren't very good for keeping the smell down, only way to get rid of smell is to get rid of the diaper not have a nice stockpile of 10-15 diapers in a glorified trash bin.

but yeah Camera is awesome gift, specially for all those first moments, which women seems to go gah gah over.

While this makes sense and I fully agree, a long long time ago for the baby shower of an aunt of mine, nobody gave them bibs, me being a cheap bastard was the only one who gave them bibs. Not even my aunt had bought bibs >_>;

If you are getting something for your child I would buy a painting or something to decorate his/her room. (This is of course considering you will in the end, buy most/all of the stuff for him/her)
