Thf Tanking

So, yea. What are your guy's thoughts and opinions about thf tanking?

It would be great to tank on THF, however, i just feel it's nearing impossible to hold hate consistently. Having a complete evasion set myself (I can't get anymore +Evasion/Skill) along with merits makes me pretty untouchable no matter what i fight. Therefore, i feel it wouldn't be right for a THF to have the ability to hold hate consistently or tank for prolonged periods of time. For the moment i have the most fun tanking on THF when duo'ing Cactrot, Bune, Simurgh etc. It's nice to know you can stand there and get missed 12 times for every 1 hit that lands.

So... for me, unless THF get given a way of holding hate, i can't see them being able to tank any end game HNM (Fafnir, Tiamat, etc.)

Even if it could generate hate, you can't really rely on evasion on Cerberus or Khimaira, or any other HNM with capped accuracy. I've actually heard evasion can work decently on Cerberus, but still, THF lacks alot of damage reduction gear and their HP isn't very high to begin with. Simply put you really can't rely on evading on Cerb/Khim.

That's why you use shadows.

My THF has 1300+ hp in tp gear, that's only 150 or so below my Paladin's hp in normal tanking gear.

With proper equipment and support/songs it works great. I've parsed people evading 65% of the attacks from cerb + khim. Even though it works, I don't see the point when any DD/NIN can tank pretti much anything the game can throw at us. We're way passed the point of tanking being a difficult part of the game.

That's why you use shadows.

I was holding it in Ilrusi Atoll Tier10 while the rest were taking on the moblin, can't really guarantee having shadows up in such a situation. Black Shuck (cerberus) on the other hand was much easier as I hled it while the rest killed elementals.

FL assaults are piss easy to tank as thief, and to hold hate on.. I tank all of the FL bosses for my assault group with ease - HNM is another story

Yesterday cerb popped, so of course we raced there... I tagged cerb, whm cast slow, rdmbot hasted me and both died (couldnt get hate off them hitting for 10-25) whitemage reraised - was able to hold cerb taking no damage for about 3 minutes (aside from either spikes or a fire spit), then a bard showed up to double mambo me making it even easier - 2 minutes after that a war showed up and I let him take over tanking. (Didn't really have much in terms of evasion gear on either - denali hat, ungur boomerang, boxers mantle was about it) have capped evasion/parry and 4 merits in each though.

Getting hate is the hard part, tanking isn't so bad if many people aren't beating on it. If it starts getting TP spammy, thf gets fucked. In FL assaults if im tanking something i'm typically the only melee on it or I can't keep up.

Real Khim is a horror story for a thief - one time I raced to tag khim, pulled it while solo, he never missed a single hit on me - splat :[


Khim also hits alot faster I think and has nastier TP moves.
