Purely speculation, but im going to say someone at SE relized that the situation was too big to sweep under the rug (especially when people were bombing the phonelines) and something had to be done.

I am quite sure if RMT had just stopped at somepage.com that SE would have tried to let the situation dissolve itself, since they have the lovely stance of 'do nothing unless its gushing blood from the head' towards everything.

Will also be interesting to see how SE goes about restoring lost items, I can see this as being a very easy thing to manipulate.

If people try to manipulate the system, when SE looks in the log and sees that your items are on an active character - hi2u LM-17 on that account and all the mules tied to that account or SE can send the GM inquisition to force you to drop all the questionable items and lighten your pockets.

They have alot of tools on their side like IP logins, when you logged in, what you had before and after getting 'hacked' - tools they can use to verify things.

Me: Here take my login info and sell all my shit worth selling and transfer it over to a mule character. Then when I get my account, and items recovered, we can "split the profits" so to speak.

This happens and I go to SE and ask for my items to be restored. I get all my stuff back, and split the money from the stuff you "stole" from my character.

SE would have to roll back multiple characters and investigate the transactions between each one. I have no clue how easy or hard this is for them to do really.

/nod this is exactly what I thought might happen when I posted in one of the other threads a couple weeks ago. Yeah, maybe it'll be a "one time only" rollback, but it could still be a huge problem if one person takes a whole LS bank and "gets himself hacked" and the whole bank is duped...

Not only RMT get gil for no "work," see HNM LS bank mules for instance. They sell 1 item then give gil to other people in the LS, or just to 1 person for purchasing things like Timeless Hourglass. People who want to get around the rules and manipulate the system could easily trade the items/gil so many times to make it virtually impossible to link it back the the original owner who was supposedly "hacked." Hell, they could even log these Starter Pack Visa Gift Card accounts in from an internet cafe so the IP address wouldn't track back to them or anyone they know...

edit: YES I know I'm basically telling people how to cheat the system, but by putting it right out here in the open, I hope SE can do something to stop it from happening this way

Naa the RMT have been doing this since the starter pack came out. Not to mention using the Visa gift cards. Even NA players who cheat and hack uses these things. Its pretty well known actually.

The Chinese do it since in their mind, it's a starter pack, they have nothing to lose, would a legit player risk his account by participating in a scam if it could be banned for it?

There's no easy solution, honestly but the threat of a ban may dissuade legit people to do stupid things. It never stops RMT because...well, they're in business to scam and abuse exploits.

Getting close, I need the CC information I used 2 years ago and I'm there.

In what was inevitable (someone has to post first), I had bought a second account for a mule/PL (a dualboxed PL is just sooo worth it) and 2 days after the POL "get-your-shit-back" campaign it got yoinked. Obviously there's nothing I can do and I'm not whining, just possibly a word of warning to anyone in the same boat...make sure to not keep anything valuable if you have an account without your personal info already on it.

Very glad I didn't spend much on it. If anyone truly cares it was from [email protected], who moves a lot of accounts with 99% positive feedback. Just a warning to anyone who's bought a 2nd from the same person, watch your stuff

...Actually, you know, screw the GMs. Credit the STF... a group that would have no reason to exist if GMs weren't lazy as hell and/or could do their own banning.

On the other hand, you could give the joke for the STF with the same 3... that might work a little better. Since they've said they can trace the history on any item and see who its been passed to and trades for gil, etc.; they actually manage to surprise us by doing some good occasionally, and they give smackdowns with the banstick with a decent efficiency every month. As for 4th weapon and the near-fanatical devotion to the pope... I'm guessing the STF is on the jpn side of things, so that's not their thing.

Now hes waiting on the 3rd to not work
and by different emails i don't mean just different accounts, i mean different providers

It seems like a lot of people aren't getting emails from SE. They say they send them out, but very few actually get them. If you read the hacked account threads, you will see a similar discussion. It's hard to imagine that SE can fail at a simple thing like sending emails out, but they are.......

After being cock blocked on december 12th, i decided to wait for a policy change, but all we got was the email with the compromised accounts form, so i have some questions for those who have received it.

1. What email provider did you use?
2. What did the email contain?
3. How long did it take for your email to arrive?

They have sent me 4 emails so far, and I've not received a single one.

thursday jan 31st, i was sent one to hotmail
friday feb 1st, again to hotmail
friday evening, one to compuserve
monday feb 4th, one to gmail

When asked what could be wrong, the reps replied that i should contact the email providers, but I highly doubt hotmail, compuserve, and gmail are having issues. They also suggested i should check the spam folder, so i did, but the compuserve email doesn't even have a spam filter. It's so upsetting that this issue is probably not mine alone.

Notary is pretty much a public officer that could vouch you are who you say you are, used to validate forms. Commonly found in banks.

Dunno if it's the same in the states, but in Canada I think most lawyers have notary powers as well. I got my form signed and stamped by a friend of mine, who is a lawyer... had no idea that lawyers were also notaries. Saved me some cash on getting the form signed that I promptly blew on overnight delivery for the form ><. So if you happen to know a lawyer, ask them!

I've had the same problem with receiving emails from SE. I tried Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo and all of them didn't work. I also got the same response you did. That's the only explination as to why they aren't delivering SE's emails to everyone

Yeah, it COULD be possible that with all those "ffxi newsletters" or whatever that they send out, they've been added to the free webmail provider's "spammer list", but come on, gmail doesn't just simply DENY spam, it puts it in a seperate spam folder, plus, I still get all of SE's newsletters and they don't filter as spam. When I called yesterday, I gave them my personal email address that I manage the server for, because it's through my own domain hosting. I turned off all spam filters before even giving it to them so there's NO way their email will get blocked. He said he sent it while we were on the phone, and it's still not here... This is a joke, I've done email/isp/etc support for several years, and unless their SMTP server is crashing every 5 seconds, they just aren't sending the emails. Period.
