    Macro sets, different characters.

IIRC you can save macros when you reinstall the game or whatnot (no idea how, but I'm told you can). Can you, however, put one macro set made for one character onto another account on the same computer? For example, say your character is named Bob, he's a ninja. You have a friend who is named Joe, and his account largely has the same items as yours, also a ninja. You're trying to help him get x done on his account while he's on vacation, can you somehow move all your macros for Bob over to Joe without rewriting them all? And if so, how?

    hmm tricky.

    Copy the mb.dat

mcr#.dat and nmcr#.dat from one folder to another maybe, not sure if that is going to work though.

You can yeah, just copy the .mrc files over to the right USER folder. I did this when I had to log on a friend's RDM character to an event once and worked out great.

EDIT: oh ffs this post made me Erin Tribal?

kinda easier: if you dont mind copying ALL the macros and ALL the game settings and ALL the map markers, do this.

    log into pol as "bob"
go to the character selection screen (when ffxi fullscreens)
click login, select "bob", but dont press enter
    press ctrl-alt-shift-B
pick one of the four slots and save it.

(this next bit if bob and joe are on different pol id's. if they are not, dont bother doing this part.)
    log out completely
go into C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\pub\h ome{XX}\open\ContentsData\FinalFantasyXI (note: {XX} refers to 00->99, it will probably be 00 if "bob" is the very first character you loaded up, and "joe"'s will be 01)
copy the single backup file called FFXI{X}.DAT ({X} is 0->3, depending on which slot you picked) from bob's folder to joe's folder (you can rename it too to put it into a different slot than you backed it up into)
    log into pol as "joe"
(end part for multiple pol id's)

go to the character selection screen and highlight "joe"
    press ctrl-alt-shift-R
load the slot you just finished saving

lightly documented (and doesnt mention the part where you can move this file between accounts) on playonline's website:

oh, and you can of course copy this file to any other place to back it up. like a memory stick, or a cd, or another computer entirely.
it contains macros and map markers for sure, and i think it contains game settings such as chat filters and colours.
