PSP or DS?

My birthday is coming up on the 11th next week and I was wondering which portable should I get. I work a pretty boring job that requires a lot of sitting and doing nothing and my boss asked me today "why don't you bring crossword puzzles or some DVD's?" I asked if it was ok to play like a handheld and he said it was.

I won't be able to ask for both so I was thinking of getting the PSP Silver package but one thing that has me worried is how harder it is to downgrade firmware. DS with a few games I want and the R4.. damn it's just all too hard to choose. So I wanted to ask you which would be a good one to go with first?

If you have Vista, get a DS. If you have XP, get a PSP.

You can play ad-hoc games in infrastructure mode. It'd be like playing multi-cart only games on the DS, but having them wifi-enabled. It doesn't work with vista yet, though! As for firmwares, if you know someone who has already downgraded their PSP, you can use their battery to downgrade yours.

I personally have both systems, but I play my PSP a lot more often than my DS. The graphics are pretty amazing for a handheld, and the battery lasts quite awhile as long as your screen isn't at max brightness. The analog stick is a really nice touch, too. You can only fit maybe 5-10 games on a 4gb memory stick though, because they range from 200 mb - 1.4gb per game, so you're gonna have to stick with only a few at a time. I can probably put 25-30 games on my R4DS .

I wouldn't put a PSP in your pocket unless you had a screen protector, nor would I play a DS without a screen protector.

had both, almost never used the psp so i sold it. really get a ds unless you plan on using the music/movies/skype features of the psp.

Thanks for the link. Yeah I was thinking of getting a screen protector, a gel protector skin, and a logitech case, anything to keep it in tip top shape.

So the old battery on the older PSP's already have to be modded or can they be normal?

If they're normal, it's not gonna do you much good. They have to be modded already.

I wouldn't worry too much about a carrying case, unless you're fine without being able to fit a lunch box in your pocket.

Crap.. I don't think I know anyone with a modded older PSP except for online, but that's useless unless they want to send me their battery lol. I'm sure I will find someone around the college or something.

I'm sure there's a way to mod a psp-slim by now without a pandora's battery, but I haven't looked into it since I last downgraded my firmware.

Both are modded though, so it only depends on which system you like better... hell my PSP is basically an MP3/PSX player, I barely play any PSP titles on it (Crisis Core and Valk. Profile are the only ones I actually played/own.)

Final Fantasy Tactics and DBZ Shin Budokai wifi battles are really fun on the PSP.

Tactics is pretty much the only thing I play on the PSP. Of course, Tactics is my favorite FF so that goes without saying >_>

I'd like to mention that of the two, I only own a DS.

I don't play it at all, actually I let a friend of mine borrow it sometime last year and I haven't missed it at all until I saw this thread.

I have both. If you play games, DS is the way to go. PSP has cool utility functions, but the games for it are mediocre at best. Crisis Core was a huge disappointment, also.

DS without a doubt, I've been playing FF4 and Advance Wars:DoR more than FFXI recently.

Has FFIV DS been patched yet? I played the straight up JP version on my buddies DS. If so that may push me to buy a DS.
