There's a playable translation patch for FF4, but it just does interface, not story text.

Ah cool, damn it's really hard to decide between the two. If someone links me to a reliable site that sells R4 then well sold. Sure I can google but I really don't know if the sites that pop up are reliable..
PSP you can mod for free, DS modding will cost you anywhere from 50-200, depending on which card you buy.
I personally use the Supercard Lite, and it works wonders. It wasn't that expensive either.
Are you serious? I thought with R4 you can mod with the things it comes with.
You can..R4 is one of the cheaper ones, and it works pretty good too from what I heard.
I preferred the Supercard Lite simply because it was a best seller on the website I went to heh, I think they're all the same more or less.
Well anyone here actually use R4?
I do.Originally Posted by Larsa

It's good. You just drag and drop whatever files are on the cd onto the micro sd card, put your .nds games in the apps folder and you're good to go.Originally Posted by Larsa
mine works the exact same way, so I say buy the cheapest one you find. They all work essentially the same way.
I have the M3 Simply which is basically the same thing as R4 (if you know about the chips). I bought one for my brother too and he uses it, works great for him. No problems from me and I play a lot. I heard some people have issues with the spring which is part of the SD card ejection mechanism but I bet its from people who eject their cards a lot, which I don't. I don't change the games on my DS often, my brother even less so. So that is something to consider, other than that I think its perfect. I just need to go buy a bigger SD card haha
Ok final questions. Do you remember where your bro bought it from? Any good reliable site? and does it keep all saves? Thanks everyone!
I'm a bit late on this, I know. I have both, love both, but I think I prefer my PSP. The only game I have really spent a significant amount of time playing on my DS is Dragon Quest: Monsters with some Nintendogs and Rocket Slime. My PSP has Final Fantasy Tactics, Breath of Fire III, Valkyrie Profile, Disgaea and some other NIS games, Jeanne d'Arc (which is amazing) among others, not to mention future releases of Star Ocean I and II.
Mostly any site is reliable and quick. Don't bundle it with a micro SD card, because those are ridiculously overpriced outside of amazon/radio shack. You can even buy an R4 on amazon if you wish. Expect to pay around $40 for it total. I got mine from http://www.echostore.com, but you can also try http://www.dealextreme.com or http://www.amazon.com . A chinese version is cheaper, and you can download the files later on to change the language to English and save a few $.
I got a look at this M3. http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/hb-ds-m3realp
Comes with a GBA player too.. which is pretty awesome. I wonder if it's any good, site is pretty reliable BTW, ordered my Swap Magic from there.
I ordered my R4 from that site (divineo) and used express, and ended up getting it two days later.Very reliable.
I was the one who bought it for my brother, not other way around.Originally Posted by Larsa
I got it from http://www.realhotstuff.com/ , at the time they were the reliable store with the cheapest prices, don't know if they are still cheapest. Bought w/o SD cards, and found them FAR elsewhere. Wasn't worth it to me to buy the chinese and mod it to english, it was only a couple bucks difference :/
Oh to add one more thing, at the time I was buying them, people seemed to be waiting for the M3 Real because it was supposed to allow you to play GBA games from it. I see its been released now, but I don't know if they have this feature. If it matters to you, you might want to investigate it.
edit: lol guess your link answers that question. I actually bought a separate device for GBA games but if that was out when I bought mine, i would have gotten the M3 Real probably. unless I read somewhere it doesn't work but i doubt that
It looks like it is a separate device from the picture. The long one goes in the gba slot and the DS-sized one goes in the DS slot. It seems to be just a bundle. I'm pretty sure you have to flash the DS's bios to even play a GBA game from slot-1, and that's just asking for trouble.Originally Posted by evilbau
Castelvania: Dracula X Chronicles on the PSP is amazing. So is Super Robot Wars MX Portable. So is FF Tactics. So is Lumines. So is Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 2.
DS has a ton of good games too. The Phoenix Wright series being my personal favorite.
