I played the shit out of DXC, but I <3 Castlevania to begin with. I played Maverick Hunter X a good amount, too.Originally Posted by Huggo

All the people saying the DS has awesome games, please enlighten me. I don't care for random crappy/small games, I want real RPGs. (or good all-around games, like PW)
I barely ever touch my DS. There aren't that many great games, and once you beat them they're all pretty boring... thinking about it, I probably played more GBA games on my DS than DS games (and the PSP can emulate GBA lol, if only I had gotten a psp back then)
also another point you may want to consider, the DS can be emulated, and the emulator for it is only getting better, whereas I don't see the PSP getting emulated anytime in the future, but it's sort of a moot point because you don't really use a psp to play psp games lol
I guess it's just me, but portable PSX > anything the DS can offer. (PORTABLE SUIKODENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 1 and 2 fuck yeah)
i could say the same to you, i dont want to play any ps1 games on the psp and there was no games with content that i enjoyed on the psp. i have 2 games and ended up never playing much of either as they were both remakes of games i had beaten. ds has had way more original games that ive beaten.
I'd like the DS more if it could emulate SNES and up, but it can barely do NES, and it craps out on Genesis.
I got myself this -awesome- player for my DS, and it does everything, Video, Music, Games, And you could even put some kind of linux on it lol. It's called the Max Media Player & Dock, it comes with a 4Gig HD(http://gear.ign.com/articles/717/717783p1.html). As far as games go, they have come out with many good games for DS, such as FF3(4 to come), FF12RV, Mario Party DS, Metriod etc etc. I just wish more games would utilize the damn rumble pack I bought.Originally Posted by Larsa
It really depends on what you're looking for in a handheld. If you want a portable PSX/SNES/movie player, get a PSP. The vast majority of it's "good" games are old, so you know what you're getting and whether you like it or not. If you want a handheld with new and innovative games that you may or may not like, get a DS. Yeah, it's a risk, cause there's games besides remake #623423 of FF3, but a lot of them are fun as hell and surprisingly different from what you're used to. You aren't gonna find 200-hour traditional RPGs on the DS, but you also won't find stuff like Elite Beat Agents or Zelda Phantom Hourglass on the PSP. Once you get away from the million different Bejeweled remakes on each system, the games are really very different, so it's not surprising that people who have both tend to prefer one heavily based on their own tastes.
As for good DS games, we have a thread about this somewhere, but...
Both Advance Wars
Both Castlevania
Contra IV
Elite Beat Agents
Final Fantasy III/IV (when it's released in the US)
FF12 Revenant Wings
Hotel Dusk
Lunar Knights
Mario Kart DS (fuck yeah!)
Metroid Prime: Hunters
New Super Mario Bros
Phoenix Wright (duh)
Puzzle Quest
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
Super Princess Peach (really, it's good...)
WarioWare and Mario Party DS, if you're into that kinda game
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
There's also a horde of your average handheld quickie puzzle games, like Planet Puzzle League, Meteos, Honeycomb Beat, and some novelty ones like Nintendogs. They're not really new or exciting, but they come in hand when you're stuck somewhere for 5-10 minutes and don't want to load up and get into a "serious" game. I'm pretty sure the PSP has equivalents, so they're not a huge factor really.
As for emulating the DS, it'll get better in speed and compatibility, but unless you have a similar touchscreen device yourself, emulating games that use the lower screen for more than info display and a few buttons will be iffy. Stuff like Metroid Prime and Elite Beat Agents is nearly impossible to play with a mouse, and the trend is to use the touchscreen more and more in newer games, so I doubt it'll become any less of a factor. You also have to deal with the mic and open/close sensor, things that are just a bit easier to handle on an actual DS. Wifi play (particularly online play) is big too, and emulators aren't up to speed on that yet.
I have both, and tbh if you're looking to play games, DS is my choice. The only thing I really use my PSP for is listening to music at the gym because I haven't bought a new Ipod yet.
Magical Starsign is a good RPG for the DS, as is the upcoming Dragon Quest games, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles games, and I'm sure more will be on the way if Nintendo and Square Enix keep making babies the way they have been lately (Super Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger on my DS please!)
Add these to Zosi's list, some are RPGs, some alot of non DS players don't know about.
Children of Mana
Heroes of Mana
Rune Factory (It's like Harvest Moon if you're into those kind of games)
Super Mario 64 DS
Final Fantasy: Chocobo Tales (I enjoyed it)
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time (Very Underrated imo)
Yoshi's Touch and Go
Sonic Rush Adventure
Kirby's Canvas Curse
Megaman ZX / Megaman ZX Advent
Bomberman
Pretty much, DS is like Nintento has always been, if you wanna play games, buy a DS.
Both handhelds barely have any GOOD RPGs.... the PSP does have more though.
I haven't touched my DS since beating Phantom Hourglass (great game, btw) and FF12: RW.
How many exclusive RPGs are there for the PSP anyhow? All the ones I can count off the top of my head are ports from another system.
(hell, half my PSP games are ports)
Hell, Crisis Core alone is worth buying a PSP for if you ask me. (beat the JP version, great great game.. I just hope they don't tear the ending sequences apart with their stupid ESRB bullshit and censor it to hell like they did Xenosaga 3... >.<)
If you are buying a DS for the first time now, then you'll have around 40 or more great games to play you missed out on. PSP just got worthwhile within the last year really.
If you like fighting games, PSP is worth it for Tekken : DR and Guilty Gear Slash (JP Onry) alone.
I own both systems, but my DS has been rotting since I beat Phantom Hourglass. Backwards compatibility on the PSP (assuming you have it hacked of course) gives you an awesome library of games to choose from, and truthfully most PS1 games look pretty good on PSP since the image is shrunk down.
I'm all for people having there own opinions, but the last part of your statement is just fucking wrong.Originally Posted by MisterBob
Agreed, I thought Crisis Core was a masterpiece.... do you know Japanese? Because obviously the story is a huge part of the game, and is fucking amazing IMO.Originally Posted by Barali
Crisis Core a masterpiece... lol. It will be whatever I can find, most stores are dry over everything, it's pretty damn retarded.
Storywise it was... gameplay was a bit repetitive, but I thought the story was actually good for a change (seeing how it's the 100th FF7 spinoff and they all sucked up till this point outside of CC.)
Well I called in my local GS and they said they won't have anything until the new color (Cobalt Black) hits on the 10th, I am going to see if it is possible to reserve one.

BTW any of you wouldn't think that these new DS's that are hitting wouldn't be compatible with R4 would they? I hope it's not like the PSP and firmware..
its not possible to reserve them and they are VERY limited in #.
That's what I don't get about Nintendo, they are making a fucking killing and they aren't even amping up the supply for the consistent demand? People are still hunting for Wii's and DS's after years. How fucking retarded.
