Healthy ranting on WoTG (preupdate) here, folks.

ToAU is a well-oiled machine at this point. Mind you, that's after a helluva lot of oiling. The following is just a rant, but hey- after a few months, people gotta rant.

WoTG feels like a prototype, a shell by comparison. We have the bare bones of a lot of stuff- but not the meat.

Till there's an update, WoTG is lacking as an expansion- though if it was simply a content update, we'd have wet our pants.

Easy warps back and forth across the original game area, new "conquest" gear, constant exp while soloing at higher levels, a movement buff item for long runs, +10 gobbiebag spaces worth of quests. If hadn't been labeled an expansion, we'd have collectively called it a win. I still think it's good...but it doesn't feel like an expansion yet. ToAU did from the get-go, if only because of the new central city.

The new "old city" zones were an eye-opener, but I was pissed there's no access to the whole town. Sealing off huge chunks of the three nations makes me feel cheated. Ditto Jeuno- though I hope we're allowed in before the expansion's done. Put in ferries between cities rather than airships, long rides with hostile Sahagin, the usual sealife, and a new NM or two. People will camp the Nashmau ferry for a friggin green penguin, after all. Open up Port Windurst, San d'Oria, and Bastok (as well as they can be opened, historically speaking). Blockade runners as instances? Hell yes. Don't leave all the guilds flaming ruins like in Windurst or closed off like in San d'Oria. Sure it's a frickin' war. You put in OP's that let us train the new guildies, so let us in the damn guilds already. Open some damn shops, not just a goblin with some hi-ethers and pickaxes...and let us pay in Allied Notes, since obviously giving us ancient currency is bah-roken for Dynamis.

Add the other old world zones to the past. Even if Selbina and Mhaura are dinky little nowhere villages. We know the beastmen strongholds are going in. Put it -all- in. Surprise us. Finding out Crawler's Nest was a brewery was a surprise. Seeing Garliage as a full-blown intact fortress was not, but it's like a new zone without being blown to bits. Done right, it can be like something out of the Chrono series or the pre/post apocalypse of FFXI.

Add Tanvazia. Before the explosion, it was the rival of Jeuno or any of the other nations, a jewel of the lands. Doesn't have to be right now, but do it anyway.

to me personally, WoTG feels like a demo disc.
Sure theres lots of nice new things, Campaign, OP's. but the whole Missions ended fast, the quests were limited to say the least.
trying to solo in the past can be a joke, when mobs hit 10x harder than there usual leveled ones (mandys outside windy hit my blm for 65 x2 non crits, and they checked EP to it.

Also I was kinda hoping the job adjustments might come and some additions to the long forgotten fellowship quests.
Even the choco's in old cites, is almost too much of a tease, "Yeh heres your chocobo, sorry you can't use it, we forgot it along with the rest of this demo"

What I find disappointing is the total lack of things to do in any outdoor area aside from Campaign Battles.

I walked around and explored Grauberg to the fullest, a very aesthetically pleasing zone, but there's nearly absolute jack-shit to do in it aside from Campaign Battle. Same for the other new zones and older ones, there's nothing. No NMs, no random crap we all forget about a day later (hey there Clamming!). Some visual sights that are just that, a visual sight. (Konschat crag comes to mind, alongside the trek to that location. I mean, you travel alongside a bunch of odd bone structures, that make you feel as if there's going to be a massive wyrm or something lurking the area, and then once you hit the top, it's just recycles of the damned dragon model)

As it stands, there's no real reason to visit any of the zones aside from Campaign Battles, or Campaign Ops, and both those are typically done quickly.

And it isn't helping that SE is just severely behind schedule with regards to everything....

    I know...
Can we make one thread and just have people post their ridiculously, over repeated, wall of text rants in?

Could always merge them altogether for some reading inconsistencies.

C'mon, it's not a day if we don't get a rant like this posted on some BG board!

Lightning rods conduct electrical discharges from storms safely into the ground, where they're rendered harmless.

Topics like these conduct random anger posts from shitstorms on WoTG safely into a single topic, where they're easily ignored save by the S-E guy who has to read all this crap for a living.

But it's true. WoTG seriously feels like we bought the trial version until an update makes it otherwise. Even if I find getting 3100+ exp in a single campaign battle made of awesome and win, I know for the $20 we deserve much more.

I wonder if SE intended to wait so long before giving a content update to this expansion. I don't think they did. I wager the recent account hackings took up a lot of their resources and the content update was pushed back as a consequence.

Had we seen a content update mid-January, the playerbase probably wouldn't be feeling this way about the new expansion. It was released, and most of us recognized it for what it was: a teaser of things to come. Only, those things haven't come yet. We're getting the impression that the expansion is being neglected, and that's resonating negatively through the community.

Nevermind the fact that updates for all of the jobs were hinted at here and there and we were to be expecting another (final?) update of ToAU content supposedly to include things like AFv2 armor for the PUP, COR, and BLU players. You have all of that most likely in the wings waiting for the first content update of WotG to keep the Dev. Team on their timeline of content to be released.

At this rate, the entire release of the new WotG content will come out on a permanent late-feeling timetable, which may hurt the overall impact of the new expansion.

I think, more likely, WoTG was forced to come out in Nov.SE just wanted to tap into the Christmas market. They had probably just barely scraped together enough content to partially fill the disc. Now they are putting the "intended" release content into this upade, as well as (what would have been) the update that usually follows an expansion release.
