    PC Issue

As of tonight my PC has been acting strange. It will have problems when doing something as simple as closing a window or right clicking on an icon, when I do so it just seems to slow down to ridiculously low speeds and sounds as though it is trying to read one section of my hard drive repeatedly, kind of like a noise you would hear from a scratch on a CD with a player trying to read it. I've run numerous anti-virus things and nothing has come up besides tracker cookies. Also tried a system restore with no effect. If anyone has any suggestions as to what the general problem sounds like and any idea as to what I can do to attempt to fix it I would greatly appreciate it. It happened as I was making this post as a mater of fact. Seems basically like PC lag and this kind of thing should NOT be happening as this PC is only 3 months old.

ok....... seems to be working fine and havn't had any hicups yet in Safe Mode. What could be the problem in the normal vista service that could be causing this?

tbh it sounds like it is just paging, which means not enough RAM in XP. I'm not learned in Vista though.

I have 3 gigs of ram, any way I can view or adjust how my ram is being used? opened up task manager to see how my resources were doing and it seems to be using ~30% of my ram at any given point and I can't understand as to why.

I have a similar problem on my PC atm. I reformatted and after reinstalling all drivers... everything works perfectly except when resizing windows or using menus.

I figure its just a bad stick of RAM and deal with it.
Hopefully will have enough to get a new PC in March

Could be something to do with your memory and how its reacting with the board. You can run a memory test to see if a stick is going. You can try and remove a stick to see how its running with 2gigs. (some setups can't run on anything higher then one or 2 gigs.

Make sure you defrag, clean up your hard drive of temp files and such. Run 1 or 2 anti virus software and spyware software.

If its still a problem you might want to see whats runnign in your background that might be slowing you down.

Also might help to list your specs.

    Re: PC Issue

So I just got my new hard drive in the mail, and had some questions about how I would be able to install it...... basically take out my old one of course plug in new one, but I was told I would need some recovery disks. This is the part of the process where I get lost..... I had a friend tell me if I knew someone with vista I would be able to create some recovery disks via his PC and go that route but I have no idea as to how to go about this... If anyone has any helpful info I'd <3 you long time

It's not a recovery disk as much as an installation disk for windows. They come with pretty much every system. The XP SP2 ones have a green label, Vista is purple and I think Media Center is orange. You'll need to boot with one of those disks to install the operating system on the hard drive. You'll also need to activate it with the serial code that's with your PC. If it doesn't accept the code call Microsoft and they should be able to activate it for you. Vista doesn't warn you about activating until its almost too late though, so be sure you do this.

Yup thats basically about it. Just take out the old one leave the cords hooked to your mobo and undot he ones from your old HD and then put them on your new HD and your ready to boot.

Since your system is only 3 months old you should have the recovery disc that came along with it. Just install them and let windows do the rest. After thats done hook up to windows update and fetch your critical updates after that look into updating any drivers. After that you should pretty much clean off the H.D of any junk you wont be using (like free AOL trials, Napsters etc) After that install your virus and spyware programs and run a quick scan. It shouldn't take to long because not much should be on the system. An then go about installing your programs.
