Ya know, Ive heard this from alot of people, but from what Ive seen Mijin Gakure is myth.

Hardcore damage, fast and furious = win.
It's not a myth. We've used it several times to keep animateds around for that last 5-10% and kill it. The warp cast fails, and it waits about 5-10sec before trying again. It's great.

I think it has something to do with how they cast warp; like they have to choose a target to warp on, and if the target's dead then it has no one to warp on so it fails. I'd be willing to bet if the last person to hit it died to DOT or something else, it would cause warp to fail as well (provided no one else hit it after). But that's a very unlikely scenario.

Damage can also interrupt Animated Weapon warps on an infrequent basis, I've seen it about 2-3 times, the warp simply gets interrupted and it tries again, but it's nothing to rely on.
I highly doubt having to pick a target to warp on is the reason why Mijin works. The odds of the NIN even having enough hate to be the target are slim to none in a zerg anyways, but yea the Mijin Gakure theory is most definitely not a myth.

We saved TP from the pops before, pulled with sync nukes, and made sure everyone had poison. Only the BRDs and 2 melee used 2hr (were saving that for DL), so we could at least try to reset with our COR.

    250TP Flat Blade did nothing.

As for why, let's just say I am a career BLM and there is nothing much left for me as a BLM to upgrade. And it has been one of my goals since day 1 of this game regardless of all the tests/facts pointing at it being useless in most settings. Campaign will be a good place to use it if nowhere else.

It will be a new way to play BLM after 5 years. I don't expect super-damage or to be a full time melee BLM, but it is nice if I don't have to sit on my ass all day long for once.

I totally agree with you. I mean shit, a job you love can get boring after 5 years, and this is a nice goal to spice up your playstyle.

OR YOU COULD LEVEL ANOTHER JOB YOU FUCKING CUNT.

(I dont actually think your a cunt, nor do I actualy hold any animosity toward anyone that upgrades staff. I just dont like it when the SAME fucking reason is used over and over. "My limited knowledge of any other job and playstyle has forced me to want to waste tons of gil on something completely pointless for the 1 job I do have, and sadly it wont even be useful in campaign "(no, it wont, dont kid yourself). )

Seriously, if you havent already turned the currency in, please lvl 2-3 serious melee jobs and see how you feel about melee blm after that. Hell, even if you HAVE turned in the other 3 stages, just do that and call the other stages a loss, dont throw away another 60 jadeshells.

    FFXI begs you.

If I wanted to be a full-fledged melee, I would have done so long ago. Even if I am the only one on the planet to upgrade the staff, I will do so, if only for the love and joy of playing the one job I like even after 5 years. I am not "forced" to upgrade in any sense of the word.

You don't get points when you sit in Campaign. Melee > Spirit Taker > Nuke is definitely more interesting than Nuke > Rest.

*Currency prices on Pandemonium has almost fallen back to 2002-3 levels (5k each) and appeared to have spurred more Dynamis runs for weapon upgrades and is still falling more by the day. My LS has been unable to get the cities lately in fact.*

I think you should post some of your BLM gear before you say you have nothing left to get for it except lolClaustrum.

He'll no doubt get the standard gear critique when he gets the fragment and finishes, so why go through it twice?

Anyway, I think most people, if they played on Pandemonium and had the privilege of knowing Tymora, would not fault him for wanting to upgrade staff, however you may feel (rightly or wrongly) about the weapon's general lack of utility. I feel compelled to say that because he's my friend obviously, but just in general he's done a lot to help out a lot of people for as long as I've known him, and it will be a well-deserved accomplishment, for whatever it's worth.

You love BLM so much that you want to spend massive amounts of Gil to gimp it?

Good luck on the staff Tymora.

Don't worry about the people whining about relic staff; they do the same thing for most of the other ones too.

I think the only ones that don't get big complaints really are Aegis, Gjallarhorn, the gun and bow, Amanomurakumo, Mandau, and Apocalypse. <_<

    Re: Strategy on Animated Staff

    Minjin Gakure does work.

I'll post here words that I wrote in another topic, long time ago, when I obtained Amano. It worked for me, I hope it works for you.

    ***

    How to do it?

The 1st thing you'll notice about this fight is that it takes place on a very very very very narrow corridor. If you are in big numbers, carefull on how you are pulling the weapon. On our 1st tries we were zerging it like there was no tomorrow with everybody running wild to the GKT. What happens when all ppl in zone run into a same direction in a very narrow place? Yes... most of them will get stuck. Some people will only have a chance to engage when the tachi is already at 50% health. Thats is bad. What we did on our victory run was an "U" formation, with melees close the the borders (left/right) while the middle area had free passage. We had a PLD Voke + Invincible the Tachi and then bring him into the center of the formation.

How Many people did you had?

We had 28 people. No, you didn't read wrong, we had 28 people. A lot less then the "usual" (40) marked as minimum by most LS's attempts. No, we also didn't had Dark Knights equipped with Kraken Club, we didn't even had a Kraken Club to begin with, haha. However, Monks proved to be quite usefull on GKT fight. The Tachi falls for Hand-to-Hand damage easily and Hundred Fists pulverize it. Come to think of it... we didn't even had a BARD (!) online, lol, melee went totally "naked".

    The Secret Touch:

It seems so trivial, yet... can be so crucial... Have every melee in zone open its menu, go to config and open its Chat filters. Ask them to put filters "ON" for every single option below "Attacks by you", only leave this option off (and what is above it). Why is that you ask!? Its bcoz all melee engaged to the weapon MUST see clearly what the weapon is saying. The speech of the weapon is the key to win this fight.

There will be a point that the weapon will say to you (in /say mode) "Come Back when you are ready..."; This is the LAST thing the Tachi says before warping (He starts casting warp 2 seconds after he says this). So this is your tip to when spam Mijin Gaukure. Mijin Gaukure works WONDERS by the way, as you can see below:

    http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/8893/yayqk9.png

The 3 "falls to the ground" are the indications of Mijin.

Also, The video of the fight:

    http://laugana.co.uk/downloads/Tachi_4.zip

He tried to warp at 50%, at 20% and at 5%. (50 and 20 stopped by Mijin Gakure, on 5 it was killed before he could finish it).

    Good Luck.

    Re: Strategy on Animated Staff

i can see that the first warp attempt was barred by mijins, but what stopped the second? ws stun? pure melee damage? did the mijin leave some residual effect?

    Re: Strategy on Animated Staff

Too fast text bar + Equipment change messages, just like Skillchain damage log that is sometimes wiped off screen when SAM's change equipment very fast. But we did had more then 3 Mijins.

Also, video of our Animated Knuckles fight. Same strategy. Mijin worked.

    http://www.laugana.co.uk/downloads/Knuckles_1.zip

On this 2nd run of relic weapon fight we were so sure that the strategy would work that we didn't even used 2H for it, we just waited for the time to Mijin and the core DD's saved 2Hs for Dynamis Lord.

Seems to me from those SSs, WSs and damage interupted its casting, not silly Mijins.

But keep sending nins to their death, at least its funny to watch. Just dont replace a solid zerg DD with a nin (had a group replacing a kraken drk for a nin....).

And ya, those SSs say nothing about Mijin, except your LS is silly enough to blow itself up over superstition.

If you don't have 5/5 morrigans, 5/5 genie, 5/5 goliard, and you say you're done with BLM and /need/ to do claustrum, please, consider running a heavy magnet across your hard drive.

Igqira weskit, diamond rings, and 2 HQ staves does not a perfect BLM make.

Lol, ok. I'm not here to prove that I'm right, I'm just telling him what worked for us. And I hope it workds for him. And of course, the screenshot fight, it wasn't our 1st attempt, it was the 4th. In all other attempts the same damage was there, the same ws stuns were, and bla bla bla... yet it didnt stopped him; while on the both fights we did it (videos included) it did not only stopped it once, it did twice in one and 3 times in another one. And that's how they do it since then... And also not a failure since we started doing it.

Mijin worked each and every time for us too, but hey keep telling insulting people for using a tactic that has worked for many people over and over. 5 stars.
