Or just buy a Somnus Signa and call it a Claustrum. 12k vs 131mil, looks about the same, and just as useful.

there's a certain appeal to having something nobody else has, even if it's crappy. i have a friend who's actively upgrading a relic axe. not a great axe. the guttler. i'm sure they get flak over "lolbst" and whatnot, but it's also something that almost nobody else has. when they finish it, people will walk past and say "oh look. there's THE guttler." not "there's an aegis." if nothing else, having something so scarce is a status symbol, and i can understand the interest in having it. while my currency and i will still work towards a relic that's going to be more than town gear (no offense. ^^) i can understand why someone else might choose a different path. everyone gotta do what makes them happy.

Does anyone remember when I was first upgrading mandau (back when only 2 other JPs had it) ? I was flamed to bits for it, I was told over and over I made the wrong choice, dagger sucks, it's not even a real weapon, blahblahblah. Cue a year later to when I finished mandau and after we tested it and it's mods - it ends up being one of the best relics you can upgrade. Now look how many mandau there are Now, true, you can't say the same thing about Claustrum since it's known that it's not very amazing in it's current state, however I'm guessing it'll give the upgrader the same sense of self satisfaction my mandau gave me of "I accomplished something big".

I don't see why anyone should upgrade something they don't want to.
We have G.horn Aegis Guttler Spharai Mandau (none of them upgraded internally, all brought in and self funded as far as I know), and I'm confident they make their owners happy. The aegis and G.horn don't even get to see many/any LS events due to scheduling and jazz, but they accomplished some stuff that not many people did. I guess we all shoulda bought weapons from the AH and spraypainted them gold ey?


Trivia time : I initially was upgrading claustrum instead of Mandau, however just before trading in the staff and coins, I decided it might not be a wise choice and followed my instinct

I believe most people dont have enough gils to make mandau because currency is too expensive during those times, rather than thinking that it sucks, and need you to test mods before they conclude that its one of the best relics and decide to make one lol

This is reason why there used to be so little mandau, or even relics. But atm its raining relics and almost every 1 out of 3 people can afford a relic now. Some even able to self fund 2, or even 3. Its now more of an "accomplishment" to own 1 relic than "holy fuck this relic is uber because someone tested. I WANT A MANDAU TOOOOOO"

YES IT SUCKS, but feel free to upgrade if that makes you happy.... prolly just a trophy than a helpful tool. Like i said, its now an accomplishment to own a relic than considering its potency >.>

Yeah, however back then the only people who had a dagger upgraded were :

- a JP BRD|THF who got banned shortly after getting it, not doing any testing as he was seen in many screenshots wearing full dex gear.

- another JP thief, same as above except not banned.

It was very unknown exactly how strong mercy stroke was, on top of that, daggers were still weak back then (Mandau had DMG:32) so there's another reason why it was unpopular before it was even tried. Not many people were willing to take the risk of upgrading it and potentially having a dud weapon in their hands. I remember a few people upgrading dagger when I was, I beat them ohoho.

even mandau is good relic and pretty good WS....not many people really utilise it...

i seen some ifrit Mandau people WS in TP gear (Nonozo)..........3xx damage on nyzul ebony flans ftw...while my cousin's rampage does 1000

JP seriously slacking behind interms of findings/theories now. Most of them playing the "chicken style" and play like "Robots"
Chicken style - dare not risk or do anything fantastic like zerging kirin, and no creativity in playing....they play according to the books. Dare not roll cells in salvage even they know its free just incase being screamed by me.
robots - dont fucking remember salvage cell list even going with same people 21876783221387 times. Leader have to always type same walkthrough of same zone each time before entry

Just one thing to say:

If you're upgrading a relic, please do yourself and your linkshell a favor, and I hope you at least have respectable gear for someone that's upgrading a relic and don't think it's ok to slide by with Diamond Rings, Rainbow Cape, errant legs, and NQ staves.

Outside of that, enjoy.

I always thought it would be fun to melee on BLM and hit Gate of Tartarus for some Refresh. Even had a semi-decent set of gear to switch in just to melee with staff once.

do whatever relic you want, really. relics hardly ever make or break things, because you shouldn't be fighting stupid jormugand with only six people anyway.
