Drama..I play for the drama, it's fucking hilarious.
Game still fun too

Khimaira.
OCD
Because I'm retarded and just don't have the heart to truly quit for good.
the details of it. the fact there are places in the game that exist for no reason but to look beautiful. the way your charactor blinks and breaths when it's standing still. the intracies of how the economy works (or doesn't). the realistic fact that it takes less time to get places as you progress in the game (remember that first run to jeuno from your hometown? and then how much faster a choco, then an airship, seemed? and now 300g>silvercoin>jeuno?). i like that things are sometimes needlessly complex, it just makes the whole game seem deeper to me.
friends. would i make new friends if i left for another mmo? sure. but, there is no replacing the people i've been gaming with for the past 3+ years. i've known one person since i was a lv 9 no sub rdm, how could i not want to log in to say hi? add in that not every mmo has such a widespread population: if i wanted to only meet people with the same background as me, i would just go out to the bar up the street and talk to people there.
that i'm not done yet. nevermind i havent gotten every peice of gear from the activities i do take part in, there are parts of endgame etc that i've never even touched. how could i walk away from my mithra with so much left undone?
I work nights, and my 2 best friends now live on the opposite side of the country from me (curse you, Cirque du Soliel, for stealing them away!) so this is closest thing to a quasi-social life I get. Which I admit, is pretty damn pathetic.
I do have fun playing this damn game though, and I'm constantly setting quasi-attainable goals in game that keep me coming back.![]()
For my bitches and hoes, of course.
Need to finish my Claustrum :3
0/fuckton currency so far >_>
Friends and endgame events. If you have a shell full of really chill and experienced players, it doesn't really get boring. Also, I keep myself entertained by leveling or farming and such.
Although I'll admit, there are times when I find myself running around Whitegate for hours trying to find something to do.

assault is a lot of fun and so is campaign and besieged (if it wasn't so laggy>< but free EXP and IS for doing jack squat!)
That's pretty much my situation. I would be more involved in end-game if it didn't primarily revolve around bad drop-rates, and the fact I'm in college now with an ass-load of homework.Originally Posted by Toonshady
I believe what you are trying to state is that in FFXI you actually play a character. Not a toon, not a job, etc... You are, for the most part, that person you play in the world. You can change jobs but are still tied to that name/char. This is what I believe seperates FFXI from other MMOs and keeps me playing.Originally Posted by Raitoken

Played all the other MMOs eq eqo eq2 wow lin gw etc etc.
why I like FFXI.
You can play every single job with only one character.
You can try different job combos for fun/ to find out a new cool way of doing things.
Doing something in FFXI, even though it make take a long time and is hard, is fulfilling.
In no other MMO have I done a quest and was pleased at the fact I did the quest. Most FFXI quest are crap and waste time when they could be 102984840475 times shorter, but you get that lvl 50 JSE or AF or a new avatar or something and you get a slight boost. I did plenty of quests in other mmos and found them to be lol at best and more of a god why am I doing this kind of thing instead of god when will this be over so I can be finished and get that cool "X".
Partying.
Before people go off at me let me explain.
pick ups suck most of the time but when they don't they rock, LS parties or parties with friends rock, usually.
In WoW I practically soloed all day on my shammie and stayed away from end game stuff because
1) it was boring, never liked the whole raiding the same zone over and over thing.
2) Shammies were just over all shafted in the way they got item prioritization by blizz, maybe this has changed I have not played BC.
perhaps if I had played rogue or war or even hunter I might of liked it more but w/e I wasn't about to make a new character.
EQ was fun, but FFXI is more fun.
EQO was fun too, but FFXI is more fun.
EQ2 was fun but lacked the social quality of FFXI for me, plus collection quest were just lol and made it even more easy then wow to level up. Also the crafting system was more annoying then the one in FFXI and I always ended up having to stop leveling to catch up in my craft to make my own stuff. Maybe it was just the server I was on but there usually wasnt anything up for sale when I needed it lol. But SK and Swashy were two very fun jobs.
SK was a breeze to lvl too It felt like I was cheating. Swashy was just bad ass lvling it was like driving a muscle car fast passed and fun.
In the end EQ2 just failed in the social aspect I found no need to do things with other people ever. I soloed my exp I explored everywhere by myself and I crafted my own shit. The few parties I did join were just w/e because I always ended up doing better on my own as people always wanted to "finish up this quest so lets kill these mobs." Maybe because I played FFXI EQ2 got ruined for me but If I had half the friends on EQ2 then I do on FFXI perhpas I might have stuck with it.
So in the end it comes down to:
1) Other games suck.
2) The other games that don't suck might as well be on a console for the amount of social intereaction there is.
Fable rocks btw, lol.![]()
