I ultimately couldn't think of anything besides "friends", but my HNMLS "friends" decided to go apeshit on me for not being able to log on for 6 days after 4 months of 100% attendance.

Because no matter what, there is always something to do.
EOL
What keeps me logging on occasionally...
Getting drunk, going into to vent and pissing Ryko off so he breaks my pearl, just to have him realize I am out in the middle of fucking no where, so he has to waste his time coming out to repearl me.
Ahhh good times.
upgrading relic, and i want to get maats cap. RL friends.
I like to solo mobs that take others 2-6 people to kill. No matter how many times I do it S.E seems to always throw in a mischarm when the mob is under 30%. Not to mention the countless assholes who steal the mobs on a pet swap.
Ada-McRidill-Berk Club Membership.
My Social LS, out of any MMO I've played, I'm the most attached to the ppl I've played with here.
I set a lot of goals for myself in the game and I find it a lot of fun trying to accomplish them.
friends, that i can relate to, and listen to me, and listen to them. sometimes better than the ones i have in RL.![]()
1. Storyline
2. Friends
3. Version updates when they actually happen instead of some stupid art crap
4. I've been building my character up for over 3 years it's hard to stop now
When other games come along it's a "screw FFXI it sucks rofl" moment but once said game is completed or a version update comes along it always gets me hooked again
There's nothing like a good gimp spotting in whitegate. They're far too gimp to criticize my gear and it invariably turns to unsubstantiated comments about a preference for men, having no life, and living in the basement.
Fish Ranking.
Outside the obvious "Friends" answer...
Storyline, and I really do have fun when I play. I'm only bored during Dynamis, and sometimes Limbus.
I know it's commonly said, but it's so true. It's the people that keep me here. The game itself, while amazing in it's own sense, couldn't hold me for the almost 4 it has on it's own. The people I've met, the stories I've heard, and the friends I now have are more than I could've asked for when I originally purchased that box off the shelf.
Maat's Cap
Friends
Stupid Pointless Goals
Loot
Spent too long playing, wouldnt know what else to do with my time.
Also, i consider FF as something to do that doesnt cost me any money. Anytime the Wife an i step out the house it costs us 300$..
We can roam all over Vanadiel and not spend a dime.
also cant seem to fap anymore if im not in an xp party at the same time...
boredom

Storyline, Salvage, and my LS. Back before WotG came out and i joined my current LS, I briefly messed around with Vanguard and it just seemed... really cheap and artificial, which is also the vibe I got from WoW when I made a character on a friend's account at one point. I was the leader of an EGLS on my server for a few months before the LS broke, a lot of my friends and my roommate stopped playing the game at or around that point, I decided to hang in there because honestly SE has me by the balls until the conclusion of WotG because I'm a total, unrepetant storyline whore fanboy. >.>;
As someone once said to me, who'd played WoW and FFXI... There's nothing in any other game remotely like singlehandedly saving a world you've been part of for a long time, coming face to face with basically the incarnation of a God, in an alternate dimension, and stopping the literal apocalypse, and once you've done that, everything else in any other game just seems silly. I was really skeptical when I first started playing as to whether or not FFXI could make you feel like you're the main character, i.e. be a real Final Fantasy game, and an MMO, at the same time, but FFXI really does that and it's really a lot of why I keep playing, at least, it's what kept me playing when I was most thinking about leaving the game. Then I wound up getting into an awesome LS that got me addicted to Salvage, now I'm totally screwed. XD
Also, leveling BRD and hopefully leveling MNK or SAM next, and trying to be the best BLM I can be, have given me totally different perspectives on the game / EXPing, that and going for Captain rank / Nyzul keep me kind of refreshed in between raids that can be kind of repetitive... The people I know ingame keep it from being a grind, though. I wouldn't be playing otherwise.
4 month waits for updates.
