I'm assuming you aren't an American. I honestly don't have a problem with America collecting this type of information from non-citizens, but from citizens I think it needs to be carefully applied.

ya. i'm aren't citizen but being international student here. I hard to recall if there is any "lucky" US citizen got the INS special registration or not. But I think i saw quite a few green card holder/PR(s) lucky enough to get this thing too. I have no problem with this if they can make the thing going faster, since some officer are quite fun enough to talk with them. Just the process take too long

Fact remains, good or bad, some people have a fundamental distrust of the system of government we have in place, for better or worse.

Logical and rational arguments can be made on both sides, and expanding the search criteria will in some cases be beneficial, and in some cases be detrimental, it's impossible to argue against this because it is the nature of implementing anything on a universal scale, sometimes shit slips through cracks.

Bottom line, in my personal opinion, I see it as a stepping stone to other universal identification systems and 'security' measures, and while yeah the intermediaries may be fine and dandy, the end result possibilities are what scare the shit out of me, nobody can say with any certainty what will or will not come of this policy or any policy coming after it, personally I feel having a healthy distrust of certain all-encompassing authoritarian decisions is good for society.

Am I panicking and throwing on my tinfoil hat? Of course not, but I for one am not keen on taking everything that people tell me is for my own 'safety' without a little skepticism.

something about people throwing the word sheep around strikes a nerve to me. Probably has to do with the fact that so many people throw it around thinking everyone is a sheep and thinking their own shit smells like roses.

to the subject, I don't like it: the more info the government has on people the more then can hold against us. It's not about rather people have things they want to hide or not, simple fact is everyone has things to hide. Most things people hide aren't illegal but are shameful/embrassing, leave people some privacy and decentcy.

and damn do I hate it when anyone calls people "sheep" I don't care what view people have, or what side their on, it's just a dirty word. Honest the way I feel when people use the word sheep must be exactly what someone feels like when hearing hateful racial slurs.

P.S. - if people are sheep, then you're a sheep fucker. Oh yea! I went there!

Wait wth are we talking about, they want to scan our eyes and take our palm prints right?

Edit: I figure we already have driver's licenses, social security cards, all kinds of other things that ID us. I just don't really see the big issue here.

This post makes no sense. Yes, I didn't contribute anything but posting something you hear all the time, but it doesn't make it irrelevant.

How the fuck are you going to basically agree with what I said with: "the more info the government has on people the more then can hold against us." and then knock the message?

To the other posters: That Fox news rhetoric is gettin old. Government "paranoia" you call it is actually healthy. Wake the fuck up.

Re: FBI wants palm prints, eye scans to protect U.S.

You don't have to be a criminal or a terrorist to be checked against the database. More than 55 percent of the checks the FBI runs involve criminal background checks for people applying for sensitive jobs in government or jobs working with vulnerable people such as children and the elderly, according to the FBI.

The FBI says it hasn't been saving the fingerprints for those checks, but that may change. The FBI plans a so-called "rap-back" service in which an employer could ask the FBI to keep the prints for an employee on file and let the employer know if the person ever has a brush with the law. The FBI says it will first have to clear hurdles with state privacy laws, and people would have to sign waivers allowing their information to be kept.
This is where it starts to get fucked up - you shouldn't have to permanently allow your data to be kept on file to apply for a job as a child care provider. Check against the system and that's it is fine with me, but keeping them as a condition of continued employment is too far IMO.

I find it hilarious that you're directing this at a forum that is mostly composed of libertarians who can't stop bitching endlessly about republicans and Bush even when their reasons are incredibly stupid.

Don't they do this already? For "Express" passengers, you give a palm/fingerprint and let a machine scan your eyes, pop in your ticket and off you go. Saw this somewhere.

    yes, since 2003.

Never heard of that, and I fly 4-5 times a year.

I find it incongruent to state a forum is full of libertarians when most of the initial and continuing reaction to this new government program amount to 'meh' and 'so what?'

Sunblind is merely pointing out that questioning the reasons for and efficacy of such a program is a healthy part of living in America. To not do so because 'I don't care' is sticking your head in the sand.

I'm an American and I've lived in Japan for two and a half years now. I went home for Christmas and came back to Japan at the beginning of January. They scanned my fingerprints and retinas. It's relatively recent legislation for all foreigners entering Japan. I was saddened: Japan's been my home, yet there I was, just another gaikokujin.

That has been the case with Japan since the 19th century.

having alittle trust in government isn't bad either, if someone choices to have faith and trust in letting the government keep info like palm prints or eye scans doesn't mean they trust the government on other racey ideals.

As a whole we can't take the time to question and research everything that comes at door. Most people obviously don't read through a voter's guide before elections or will filling out voting for State Measures. People just don't have the time or interest.

That's why you shouldn't go around calling people sheep just because you found out about only one thing they'd be willing to follow along with

I see your point, but personally I don't think it's really "I don't care". I just think there are more important things we could be worried about, we should trust our elected officials to a point, no need to go overboard with questioning authority imo, maybe I'm a sheep, but I can't stress every little thing our government decides to do. I just don't really consider this an "invasion of privacy".
