Version Update Notice (02/05/2008)

Don't know why people are over analyzing this update notice. Its just the normal super vague first update news that they usually give us.

This happens @ every update notice.
Get used to it.

1) First update note is released.
2) Players start speculation w/ over analyzing.
3) Few more precise update note details are released killing off some of the rampant speculation. Over analysis continues.
4) SE drops huge update note teaser to bitch slap people around with more speculation again.
5) Rebel players try to stand out stating the update wont be as badass as people imagine. Others comment on how SE should work on 3-kings or some other old aspect of the game instead.
6) Final update note dropped before the update itself, FFXI community goes into semi frenzy.
7) The update begins and time stops as everyone seeks to camp their favorite FFXI site and/or forum for notes.
8) BG and KI overfloods with noobs and lurkerz.
9) Players begin to camp Taj's webpage for updates.
10) Taj's page goes down temporary due to over camping after first equipment/spell updates.
11) Random hatred for Taj ensues somewhere in Alla.
12) Update finishes, content is downloadable, and normal data miners move in to collect more dataz.
13) Oh shi, the games back up. GO
14) Noobs and lurkers return to thier servers.
15) ???? wot
16) Profit
17) FFXI Community finds out the update was subpar to be waiting so long.
18) Life return to normal on FFXI. Begin bitching about next version update.

Thank you!!!! FINALLY something to look forward to.

I imagine that March 7th will be the target date, because it's technically in 'early 2008'. I was thinking Feb 24th for the update so I can live with 2 weeks.

I'm going to take March 3rd in the pool... the last few have been Mondays, and the 7th is a Friday and I can't ever remember a substantive version update being released on a Friday.

The version update scheduled for the end of February will concentrate mainly on events connected with the Promathia areas, as well as feature an exciting new array of notorious monsters, battlefields, and items. Previously inaccessible areas will also be unlocked for players to explore!

I think this is the first update note for the update that added the world wyrms (please correct me if I'm wrong, which there is a strong possibility that I am). Compare this to the current notes:

The next FINAL FANTASY XI version update is scheduled to take place in early March. We are currently planning to introduce brand new quests and areas to supplement the Wings of the Goddess expansion pack. Adjustments and tweaks will also be made to a host of elements such as Campaign battles and other battle related items.

My question is: does the lack of mention of notorious monsters or items in the current update notes mean that it's very likely that NM's and items won't be added? (given the history of other update notes?).

Wow! Look at all that juicy goodness! How to beat AV, higher rate of currency drops, moving 3 kings items to new instanced mobs, additional areas to merit in that are equivalent to nyzul birds, adjustments to Einherjar to make it less difficult and so you don't lose your key item after the fight, better drop rate in Salvage, new summons, new teleports to ToAH areas and the past, 30 new missions added to WotG, new quests, new relics...!

Damn you, I read this and immediatly thought something was posted about the update then I read the bottom...You smashed my hopes! Although I do like the 3 Kings Instanced idea...always been a big fan of fixing the 200person camps...

On Topic though, I want my new WHM,BLM spells and my RDM melee!! :D

Omg, this is gonna be the coolest update ever after the Cathegory II merit update! Oh wait...

Anyway, so to march we go?

Quests: More irrelevant "Go from A to B" quests that give 1k worth rewards. I don't understand how it's so hard to them to create quests that are worth anything, but i can't think of many quests that are worth my time. Good thing we still have the generals in ToAU.

Areas: Xarcabard and beastmen strongholds. More yawning, just like the current areas. Apart from the "Oh nice, this rock isn't there in the future" we get on the current areas, i doubt we'll see anything interesting. Hope they make me wrong.

Adjustments and Tweaks to Campaign: In march? So another month of defending forts without any type of risk to losing them. Ooookay.

Other battle related items: Let's hope they mean job adjustments.

Regarding the image: Beastmen strongholds (oztroja seems) are aparently a given. DNC and SCH AF finaly coming out (they really can't delay it more, so i don't think there's any doubt it's coming out now). Funny thing: The models shown are, again, the Hume Female ones. Still not a single image of Mithra or Elvaan AF =P

to SE's credit, their version update from a year ago this time was pretty kick-ass with the inclusion of salvage and somewhat fixes to sky.

they still have a month to shed light on more info.

Just to help clarify the "other battle related items" problem.

The german update note says:

"Momentan arbeitet unser Team an neuen Aufträgen, einigen Änderungen an „Kampagne“, der Öffnung neuer Areale, diversen Anpassungen im Kampfsystem und vielem mehr."

this translates to:

"At the moment our team is working on new orders (stuff in general), some changes on Campaign, the opening of new areas, miscellaneous adjustments of the battle system and much more."

So nothing about actual items like equip.

Unless with the next patch, they finally introduce the Colosseum, in which PCs will be able to fight each other in a Smashl-style arena... which would then be subsequently back to the brim in the first two weeks and promptly forgotten about in two months.

I hate being skeptical but this is how I see this playing out.

The next FINAL FANTASY XI version update is scheduled to take place in early March. We are currently planning to introduce brand new quests and areas to supplement the Wings of the Goddess expansion pack.

They are going to add a few Campaign Ops and a few new quests in the starter nations. They may introduce (like someone said) the beastmen stronghold areas, which would be cool. Overall a few new areas and a few lame quests is going to make people want to pull thier hair out.

Adjustments and tweaks will also be made to a host of elements such as Campaign battles and other battle related items.

They are going to tweak Campaign and also introduce new items for higher teirs of campaign. These items will be veiwed with with similar excitement to Iron Ram gear. They will be level 60 and offer no real advantages whatsoever.

Details regarding the above additions and changes will be released in the near future.

We will take as long as we want to introduce update notes and there really isnt anything you can do about it.
