Aye, some of our most active dyna members arnt a part of our hnm shell (theyre usually from others and cant participate because of times), so we try to be as far as possible and not focus on just one person / job (or our own ls for that matter). True some items are better for one job over another, but most people have multipule jobs, and it keeps everyone happy.

I laughed at the idea of giving shadow rings to mages as well (your policy is your policy, i have no problem with that)

However, the vast majority of BLM's I ran dynamis with held 150xp buffers, made no attempt to stay alive, and went AFK when they delevelled...every single time. The thought of them using a slot defensively instead of for epeen-damage is mind-boggling.

    Red Mageeee!!

But seriously, RDM only if they're tanking.

    Our LS does

PLD > NIN > DRK (Mantle for Zergs I think) > Coulple RDM have gotten it > Whomever else has best attendance.

    Re: Shadow Mantle and Ring

Mantle should be like a bad-behavior penalty.

'Oh you can't make it again tonight?'

    next week @ DL

'Oh take mantle, you're up for it' 'really omg ty ty ty' ' Oh and I'm taking all your points for it'

That's about all it's good for.

Those items are more useful than people think. I use to criticize them until I actually thought about it. If the Mantle procs 10% of the time, it's a Defending Ring on your back (well physical dmg only). Granted it only procs more like 5-7% (Hauteclaire on your back ), but thats still nice in certain situations. I dont have a Shadow Ring so I have no idea how much that procs, but Shadow Mantle procs enough to save your ass from time to time.

    Re: Shadow Mantle and Ring

Ring procs more than Mantle in my experience with them both. But not much, much more. I would think it varies with others, but this is just me. Got to love those 0dmg Citadel Busters They both are good, and are situational. I personally love'em and never leave my mog without them. They have saved me countless times over my 3year course with them.

Mantle: PLD > NIN > WAR(why? Serves same purpose as a PLD & Steel Cyclone VIT build mainly, If you can manage keeping STR strong still) > whatever. Everything else is just -1 inv space really, +1 e-peen.

Ring: (PLD > NIN priority) > *WAR or anything else for that matter

I'd say both proc about 5% of the time. I plan to do some more detailed testing of it eventually though.

I would hope the ring procs more than the mantle. You're almost always subject to melee attacks but magical attacks stem from occasional TP moves and spell casting in most situations. 5% is about right for the Mantle. I'd guesstimate 5-7% when I actually get hit when shadows are down.

It may be higher. Like you said, the infrequency of magic makes it tougher to tell. I know when I melee with it it on I get 'spikes' for 0 a lot but that could have to do with MDB and level disparities. Until I start tanking full time or spend a serious full day screwing around with it while soloing, I doubt I'll really know.

my experience on the ring. When you hope it to proc, it will never proc. When you totally forgotten that you wear it, it proc.

    Re: Shadow Mantle and Ring

Simple... Whoever tanks and tends takes the most damage in your LS. The more someone tanks and/or takes damage, the more use they will get out of the item and the more it will benefit everyone else. This is assuming the person in question will actually use it correctly, which is most important. Some people may fit into the first categories but will only take it as an e-peen item that they rarely equip/use, which is the worst case scenario. If this is true then this person gets a low priority regardless. Same applies if a person is untrustworthy, unreliable, or just doesn't attend events often.

This usually means it will go PLD > NIN > strongest DDs that often tank and utilize defensive gear sets > anything else. However it's not necessarily how it always will be.

RDM tanks can be thrown in there right (IMO) under the priority of NIN depending on if you utilize them often. Same for if you have a dedicated puller for most of Dynamis/Einherjar/related situations. etcetc

    lmao... yeah that too.

ie: kiting Uggy Pendant nm or Dynamis-Jeuno MB and hoping for 'death' resists = dead, while at the same time a missed stun on CC in Dynamis-Valk all of a sudden ends up in you soloing the NM.

It's saddening to realize there are more applications of Murphy's Law in FF than any other place I know of.

Arguably, from my perspective, as a PLD, shield +10 is going to reliably save you more damage over time than shadow mantle.

What I'm really interested in quantifying is the MDB on Darkday that the ring gives.
