Super Tuesday went out with more of a whimper than a bang, although that wasn't totally unexpected. McCain certainly kicked the shit out of Romney, but what interested me was Huckabee doing surprisingly (to me) well in a fair number of states.

On the other hand, the Democratic race is relatively unchanged. I really hope that the party can reach a consensus soon on its nominee because I don't want to see Obama and Clinton being forced to go extremely negative to knock the other one out of the race. Something like that will just badger the momentum the party has going for itself right now.

It was commented on MSNBC, and I agree, is that if it continues to be split down the middle, it will be decided by the super delegates. So effectively they are campaigning their colleagues, fellow senators, representatives, governors, etc. I bet they'll really like their sudden importance and seek to abuse it. I wonder if Obama's ideals for drastic change will be compromised by promises made among those meetings...

Eh while I'd say Obama has a better chance of getting more cross-party votes, I also think the general public has gotten fed up with the GOP over the last 8 years and McCain didn't exactly maintain his maverick status during that time either. It'd take a really nasty and effective smear campaign against Hillary for her to lose the general election.

If you say GOP to 95% of the nation, they would stare at you and ask what it is.
To the public Bush is Bush. McCain is McCain. Obama is Obama.
People don't see bush as a failure of a republican party, but as a failure in general. McCain is by far the best equipped to lead the nation, whether you agree with his politics or not. He is also the most moderate in my opinion, though not by much.

Really? His own party dislikes him. Ann Coulter has hilariously gone on the record saying she'd campaign for Hillary if McCain is the nominee. Rush Limbaugh, a very outspoken conservative, has gone on the record saying that if McCain (or Huckabee) gets the nomination, "it's going to destroy the Republican Party". Very conservative groups, which most people think of as the "religious base", have said that if McCain is the nominee, they simply will not vote in the election.

McCain does not have the support of his party. His aspirations rely on courting the independent vote, and has been fortunate as of late to have Rudy drop out while Huckabee stays in, freeing up votes for himself while votes are still being taken away from Romney. I like McCain, but I don't see how he can win in a general election without the support of his own party given the current political atmosphere.

The Democratic Party has generated more excitement, far better fund raising and far better voter turnout than the Republican Party thus far. Obama is electable. Hillary is electable. Unelectable people simply do not generate the type of voter turnout in primaries that both have so far enjoyed.

Obama also shares McCain's strength (to a far greater degree), where despite his record (Obama is fairly liberal, McCain is fairly conservative on most issues), he somehow has become the choice candidate for independents. The Democratic Party isn't having the same debate over their potential nominee. They aren't storming the air waves decrying Obama or Hillary as the death of the party. Be it Obama or Clinton, they're going to have the full support of their party.

I'm sorry, but I think your statement is just inaccurate. I'm not saying McCain couldn't win, but it sure shouldn't be said so matter of factly.

When the President wields his veto pen, and the opposition party still has the votes to prevent an override, what do you expect?

There are so many things I could say, but even at the most basic level you've just suggested that members of the Republican Party would have no clue what the Republican Party was when questioned.
