I'd say that goes for most of 2007, but at least he's been getting a bit better lately.

I had to do something similar in my art directing class, where I had to create some typography design that was entirely the same luminance (same brightness, different color, which you do by switching to Lab mode and turning the L channel all solid grey) My teacher blew it up full size on the projector in class with the lights off, everyone was bummed.

If you do it with generally contrasty (complimentary) colors, it kills eyes dead.

He put it extremely crudely... by "crash" he means "doesn't know what to do with it" since our brains (at least on a subconcious level) try and figure out patterns and sequences and mathematical logicality behind something. e.g. your brain anticipates the time between water drops in your sink if you hear them even in your sleep... thus if they are audible enough while being barely sporadic and uneven enough, you will have the worst sleep of your life since your brain is sweating it all night long trying to figure out the timing between drops. (the reason why it's much much easier to fall asleep when someone is blasting music somewhere, rather than the television, and the same reason you easily phase out the sound of a ticking clock until something calls your attention to it) "Crash the brain" makes it sound like you'll go comatose 3 days later from looking at an image... The parrot pattern is so recognizable it's irritating to the brain how a mass of purely mathematical fractal patterns could form the silouette of a bird, but it doesn't stress out right away, but is more likely to do so when something reminds the person of the image. It might be the combination of the image vaguely in memory while not detailed enough to view and study it.

I must have a fucked up mind, I cannot phase out anything that is repetitive. It's interesting you brought up a ticking clock, because when I hear something repetitive as such, I can't phase it out. I can sleep through a blasting radio (again, oddly enough, I sleep with the TV on or earbuds in listening to comedy, it's easier for me), but I can't sleep when there is someone breathing heavy, something beeping, a loud clock ticking, whatever. It almost drives me fucking nuts trying to fall asleep.
