Oh please, gay people don't even find fag that offensive. 99.9999% of all the gay people have used the term gay in a negative light. The word fag is even used by the gay community, too. I'd even say more-so than black people use the n-word.

Well, I haven't met 99.9999% of the gay community(and i'm pretty sure you haven't either lol) but based on the ones I have, they don't use it as much as black people use nigger... in fact its not even close. I think its even related, most white people wouldn't walk up to a group of blacks and say whats up nigger! That would be stupid, on the other hand you wouldn't do that to a gay person would you?

Just take BG for example. You've never heard Nirokun or any openly gay poster refer to a weird character design, or anything annoying/bothersome as gay? "yeah, having to run all around from point A to point B w/o a chocobo was pretty gay"

The same might not be true for you, but I have gay friends who call ugly outfits gay/queer all the time. Hell, you guys even have a show called "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy." When was the last time you've seen the word nigger just casually thrown around like that? That's not to say that you shouldn't/can't use the word queer. It's quite fine for you to say it, but why? Because it carries a different meaning/message when a gay person says it. Why can't the same be said for the word nigger?

It baffles me how you can sit there and tell someone else what he is or is not offended by, seriously how can you do that?

I think this thread has clouded your common sense, you said nigger was bad because it referred to people the white people didn't want to give equal rights while you were saying it wasn't as bad as gay insults, I think you need a breather or something. Think out your posts and don't just say the first thing that comes to mind because you have degraded to speaking on things you can't possibly know about(ie telling other people what is offensive to them and so on).

I'm not trying to get everyone to stop using it, that would be impossible, as it is ingrained in society. However, you trying to tell me that if someone used it at me intended as an insult that I wouldn't beat the shit out of them is crazy.

Ah, I see now. We were both just arguing different points. I thought you were trying to say that the term "queer" and it's history is akin to nigger. My main disagreement was that blacks have been killed for decades upon decades, and it was all brushed under the rug thanks to this word. If 7 whites were killed in a car crash it'd be a big deal in the local paper, but if 7 negro's are found slain in downstairs apartment, it barely makes front page news. These "basic" human rights that are taken for granted by white people are what my ancestors had to give blood, sweat, and many tears for.

That was my only point, that the "history" of both of those words just didn't seem synonymous in my mind, but I do agree, they're equally as hateful and discriminating. I was never trying to say queer wasn't offensive, I was merely pointing out that the origin of those words are completely different. However, in the end they do have the same effect.

Whats offensive to one person in any group may not be to another. For instance you saying 'you guys' putting me in the same group as the fuckheads that made queer eye for the straight guy is offensive to me. I want nothing to do with them, I think they are idiots. Some people may think otherwise.

If you want to point out that gays have a show that uses it for ratings and what not... do I really have to go back to rap, and even shows like dave chappelle(although he does use it jokingly) they use those words for ratings and to make money, the same way queer eye did. You can't use a tv show(or music lyrics) to stereotype a whole race or group of people, that goes against all logic.

I don't know what thread you've been reading, but the point of any of my posts was never to prove which was worse. I just thought it was funny that he'd think origin of the words queer and nigger were the same. Heh, I said this once like 10 years ago in a line for go-cart races. I found out the carts were on some sort of radio frequency so if you're driving on the course like an asshole the person administering the race can shut you down via radio signals. This is the main issue I have with it being ingrained in society, people use it like that without realizing what they are implying about gays.
