I didn't bring up the school shootings FYI. I'm talking about the girl who killed herself over an extremely similar situation. So you can sit there and say "gimme a break" all you want, but this shit can and will happen, I don't need to prove it.

What are the real issues you defined again? It happens all the time so it's ok? Or it's not the person's fault who's playing the "prank" because the victim is already unstable so it's ok?

It's an asshole thing to do and has potential to cause serious physical or emotional harm to someone and their loved ones, argue with that shit.

Opinions differ depending on the environment you live in, I guess. But, I fail to see the connection between the two different issues.

The only other thing I disagree with you is that you make it seem like that poor girl's story is more common than what it is. Its kinda like how the news can control the rate of crime perception by the amount of stories they cover. I'm sure the percentage of online horror stories is the same as IRL stories.

I dunno about the gun part, but do you seriously think more people wouldnt be smoking crack, cocaine, etc if it was legal? Illegal narcotics are illegal for one reason and one reason only. Cigarettes monopoly. The same reason weed is illegal. They've cornered anyone who wants to have some sort of narcotic relief into buying cigarettes. If people had the option to "feel good" with all sorts of legal drugs, they'd probably choose them. I do believe that there wouldn't be such a habitual addiction to the above illegal drugs if they were legal, but to say people would use LEGAL NARCOTICS less if they were legal is laughable. Look how many people smoke? You think as many would smoke if it was illegal, expensive and hard to get a hold of. (not that drugs are hard to get a hold of if you want to find them, but you can't find them at your local supermarket.)

I do feel that making something illegal makes it more taboo and more likely to become addictive and more likely to ruin someone's life. I didn't really read much of the rest of the topic I'll admit, I just feel you probably underestimate how much people would use cocaine just to try it, without any legal implications.

To stay on subject, I do feel A LOT of people are over-reacting to this prank. Put yourself in this guy's shoes...would you implode and attempt to kill yourself if you found out one of your friends/someone you knew were egging you on about a made-up girl? I'd be pissed somewhat I'm sure, I'd also not be the type of person who would try and meet or form anything tangible with a girl I only knew online. Seriously if this guy walks into this thing and it works perfectly, that means he has issues and life lessons he needs to learn as it is. Better that he get some fake relationship to show him this, than a real girl to break his heart when it truly matters.
