    Re: New Campaign Elements (02/07/2008)

The fact that these are only the first 4 changes coming to Campaign grips me by the balls. If they up the caps on the point categories or even just up the minute cap on tags a little bit more I'd be a happy camper. And skill ups with tags. And lower NPCs dmg.

    Info about Nyzul weapons prz.

Definitely looking forward to Campaign changes.

I'm hoping they'll add new music for Campaign depending on who controls the area, to add some sort of pseudo-patriotic sentiment when doing Campaign. That and it'd be less monotonous then it is hearing the same Campaign music in every zone.

I was thinking the same thing. That music is about to drive me crazy. I usually turn it off, then of course you can't tell if a battles going on in the event of a faulty /cmap

The best part of finishing Campaign battling for the day is being able to turn game music back off.

Pre-Wings, Besieged was the only thing I did in FFXI. However, now I can say: Fuck Besieged. I did it this weekend, for the first time in months, and I couldn't believe anyone actually bothers to leave the past to do it. Nearly an hour of lag and getting killed by stuff I couldn't even see, PCs warping around, all for 800 XP? I could have made 4-5K XP in Campaigns during that time!
What Shassira was saying isn't "whether Besieged is better than Campaign or vice versa", it's clear as day that Campaign is better than Besieged; I can turn in my EXP anytime I want, even if I died, I will still get my effort paid when I get up, mobs are easier yet still challenging, campaign happens a lot more frequently, higher EXP rewards, and no lag; however the problem is that, with Campaign being as attractive as it is, it is becoming harder and harder to protect the Astral Candy, with ToAU still having the best merit camp(when no idiots are camping on you) and Salvage being a lot more accessable with Staging points, it would be a lot nicer and logical that something is done to Besieged to make it enough to either, A) Draw some people back to Besieged when it happens, or B) Easy enough so we don't need (on average) 380 or so non-leeching people to protect the candy against lv8.

I don't see any reason why they can't change Besieged now that we lost at least half the attendees to Campaign, I try to do both when I can(be bothered), but if I am lazy that day, I would just sit in the past and AFK. Note that I am not blaming people for only doing Campaign and not Besieged, but some sort of Besieged update to accomodate the current Besieged vs Campaign problem wouldn't be illogical, considering how important Astral Candy is to us, and how Besieged was set up for a large amount of attendees that we aren't getting anymore.

On the other hand, I hope those new thingies in Campaign can Raise as well as healing.

Lastly, Remorons still don't know how Besieged works, is it like that in other servers?

I hope people learn to not kill enemy belfrys or w/e quick. Endless waves of reinforcements and tons more exp chances would be excellent.

Until you can skill up in Campaign, Besieged will always have a place in this game.

FUCK whoever said they need to nerf NPC damage, seriously, when campaing love dies and all areas are beastman controlled its going to be so fun .
Seriously, fucking idiots. Not to mention areas that get no PC love. On to of it everyone and their mom is going to be spamming barspells for cheap xp, along with the fucktards that go and solo a mob, near the zone entrance and make campaing last more than it should.

    Fuck.

Edit: I sense failure in those belfry if they are something like archaic mirrors.

Yeah, really need to nerf ones in starter areas and in strongholds like Fort Karugo Narugo [S] - if you wasn't able to intercept any of incoming enemies it just got instantly raped on arrival.

Btw seen something interesting in Meri Mountains [S] yesterday - was very long campaign and these Mithras NPCs run half the way to Castle Oztroja suddently. When I've found them there're were 2 waves of Yagudos and they killed like half of Mithras, I've even seen how Mithra's leader disappeared.
I've also seen the NPCs charge across the map (also in Meri Mountains [S]). The time I saw it, they completely wrecked the wave of yags with no mithra NPCs dying.

    Mantelet

The mantelet is also available to both sides, and will be placed at a location that an army is defending once their technological means have reached a predetermined level.
The mantelet's benefit derives from its ability to restore the HP of friendly players within its vicinity. As such, much like the belfry, they must be defended or destroyed accordingly.
Did anyone else note that you won't be able to sleep anything near this, because they'll be healed awake? I wonder how often it pulses.

RE: Besieged - Anyone think this is SE's plan? To make campaign more popular, so less people do besieged and thus lose the AC and thus the awesome xp camps are no longer quite as awesome? Sort of a way to "nerf" the area. You want your extra xp and IS? Participate in Besieged. It doesn't more direct rewards over campaign; instead, it's main reward is the extra xp you earn in the area when partying.

To me it looks like the original idea was to have powerful monsters that roam certain areas to be a challenge. Players should be surprised and excited when they see one of those HNMs. But 150 people standing in a room, knowing when those monsters will appear down to the second and killing them in minutes turned that original idea into a bad joke.
I know its a novel concept but I am sure SE could make new HNMs that didn't have any of these inherent flaws.

I know it's still early and there's lots of teasers to come, but no mention of the Northlands makes me sad. Making Campaign Battles less monotonous is a good thing indeed, but I'd like the battles to actually mean something. As it stands, the beastmen could take over the entire past, and it wouldn't affect the past for me in the slightest.

Depending on how Belfreys set up, we may have ourselves a much more potent battle system. If they set up out in the boonies away from Fortification spots, you now have a much more complex fight.

Sure, you can cover the fort...but if you don't find and trash that War Bell, it's gonna keep sending in new units to reduce the defenses by attrition. Likewise, Mantlets can provide a steady recovery flow to the NPC units, along with us regular joes.

And those HUEG LIEK XBOX Siege Turrets? DO WANT FIGHT NOW.

(Although personally, I think I'd like to see a Warmachine unit. It'd be like infantry vs. armored blitzkreig, but that'd be fun.)

NPC units are A-OK taking into account the additional waves of troops/new units being brought into play. I wanna see how it plays out before we go "NERF!"

Actually, seen the same thing happen in SC. Mithra leader went out, rest of the unit stayed in...and the Yagudos just pummeled her into the ground even after I dumped my MP into Cure spam + Convert + more Cure spam. Without the usual unit scatter, beastmen can drop regular army troops rather effectively...it's just they tend to splinter coming at the defenses.

I've had to sac-pull a wave of gnats off of Zonpa-Zippa's cardians in Saruta (and him) just to get the rest of the defending units to help, cause he got caught forward of the main defense. As it was, two of the Cardians and a few Casters went down anyway.

If Beastman AI was a bit better, NPC defenders would be getting downed more often.

Fort K-N is a deathtrap for Yagudo, though. Only time I see a fight last more than a few minutes is if they get Kindred reinforcements, though then it's awesome.

When I saw the warmachine thing I thought it was gonna be a new model for the current RapeMachine we have now, or a new NM.

Either way it seems really pimp and these changes seem interesting.

Whoa looks like they might actually get me back to the past with this update... sounds hot.

I hope they keep adding newer things to Campaign and change the way we play this game. (aka adding some awesome rewards and challenges)
