    Abraisive Tantara

k so oddly enough searching for this brought up not 1 result, and I'm pretty sure I've spelled it correctly

i noticed in a pt today that tantara always last longer on the sam (who was 67) and myself 65 warrior

i saw the same thing in a pt months ago on my 65ish bst, sam was 66 i think, i ended up parsing higher or equal (if you include pet dmg) cuz sam could barely ws, had 300 tp ALOT

anyway just wanted to stir up some discussion, if this has already been determined what the factors are and its not random, then great, im actually just curious

    sorry if this is OFN

It's Abrasive Tantara, though search doesn't bring up too much. I'd never noticed variable duration, but then I don't xp on imps much.

Maybe shell affects duration. Also, try Barfira.

    Re: Abraisive Tantara

I have always noticed that my, mithra MNK or THF, have longer-lasting amnesia than others, may be they are trying to insult me for saying I am forgetful?

The duration seems to vary for person to person, but I have no idea what affect it.

Do basic sam gear at that level have -fire resist?

    Re: Abraisive Tantara

How exactly is this being measured? I don't think you get a log message when other people's stuff wears off. SAM may have just been slow to notice.

It seems like a random-duration in pretty much all cases. Salvage and Nyzul imps seem to zap me for 30~90 seconds. Kinda similar to Paralyze, Silence, Bind, and Gravity.

When a SCH uses Bindga or Graviga, do the mobs recover all at once or staggered?

    Re: Abraisive Tantara

I know Tantara has a varying duration on everyone it hits, but is it consistent? I always just assumed that sometimes it would last 30 seconds, and other times it would last for-fucking-ever.

    Re: Abraisive Tantara

I can confirm what the OP noticed from salvage, tantra will hit me + MNK, MNK 30s later will AF while I clearly have tantra still on, other times a 2nd tantra will go off, no effect on me, and hit other players it's already worn off on.

    No idea why.

    Re: Abraisive Tantara

I've heard it suggested that it's Darkness based and having Sniper's/PCC with the -50 Dark can cause it to "stick" better and so have a longer duration. Not sure how much truth is to that. Main reason was because it seemed to consistently last longer on the NIN in my BRD static, who was the only one of our DDs that was using that particular combo.

    Re: Abraisive Tantara

    Amnesia itself is fire-based.
But we do also know that some moves give status effects that aren't of the same element of the ability itself.

Abrasive Tantara might be dark-based, but I assume it's fire-based.

    Re: Abraisive Tantara

I have jokingly bitched in PTs before that 2handers always have to wait longer because SE hates us(save sams). I sometimes feel like I wait twice as long when I play DRK than MNKs, NINs etc.

    Re: Abraisive Tantara

I seem to notice a variation in duration when im on sam and cor. Cor always seems drastically shorter time span, while sam seems to take forever. But seriously I wish they could release some sort of spell that would cure it, because it has to be one of the most annoying moves in the game.

    Re: Abraisive Tantara

Having just finished up SAM a month ago, I can also attest to having to wait longer times for Abrasive Tantara to wear off. I mentioned it a few times in party chat and everyone looked at me like I had 4 heads. I guess it's the price we have to pay for being good, yar?

    Re: Abraisive Tantara

if it's fire based, maybe the crappy melees tping in flame rings get a shorter duration on it? also, could it be stat driven that defines the duration of it? maybe a higher mnd will reduce duration? merely a conjecture, and not being a melee i try not to get hit with tantara so i can't really affirm or deny my musings, so take them for w/e you care to.

It does give a ton of fire resist.

Lasts on me (thief) for longer than anyone when we're doing salvage and hit by impnesia. MNK will AF, afterwards SAM will gekko, but I'll still have it on after those two.
