    Speedy kill for 3F QQTH.

(I didn't really wanna bump the Arrapago thread.)

Our group has been having some issues with killing this guy quickly before he takes off toward the entrance. Yesterday we managed to get him to about 30% before he took off for good.

We're not really looking to spend time having him run back and forth on this floor, so I was wondering what strat people use to just flatten this guy out before he starts running through the hallways.

Typically we run with 2-3 MNK, 1 THF, RDM or WHM, BLM and BRD.

If you don't kill him in time and eh start running, invis up and hide in the corner furthest away from him. That will cause him to run back to you.

Interesting. Does it take long for him to lose aggro like that? I'm just wondering of 1) Will he walk back or run back, 2) Assuming Bio was applied, will he get back before it wears off.

He will run back. And he'll get back before Bio II wears off.

Yep. Also works with a DD (if you don't have a BLM). Send your healer and a DD with TP to DoT and engage it. The DD will WS and the damage will trigger him to run. He'll run back to the middle where everyone is waiting, and you'll have ample time to kill him there.

Re: Speedy kill for 3F QQTH.

When I do this as rdm I typically skip the nuke and just land poison/bio. When we send blms to start with nukes, half the time it runs to the mid-point, turns around and goes back to kill them.

One possible factor in its choice is the fact that the path around comes within 30 units of parts of the porter room. Has anyone done a lot of testing on this guy to figure out when he runs versus when he stops to fight? Enmity seems like it may be another factor, maybe a bit of randomness, but I doubt it. Basically I'm looking to do the most damage possible in the initial blast and still have it go all the way back to the rest of the group.

When I go, DoT and stay on the side of the room that does NOT come within 30 units of the QQ's path around, it has yet to turn back and attack me in about 10 tries. When our blms go, nuke hard and don't watch distance it sometimes takes 4 or 5 times having it run away then turn back before the thing will proceed all the way to where our melees are waiting.

Yeah that's the way I used to do it back in the day... except I remember ES+Grav resisting once on a run, and I'm positive ES went off! With the new group we haven't tried this method yet. I'm thinking we'll probably try the ES-Grav attempt, and if he gets away I'll try the invis thing.

yes, it can still resist because of the resist grav trait. If you clear the first two rooms and have decent melees you should have no problem getting it down before it goes back past the ghosts, no ES grav needed (it doesn't tend to last too long anyway). Sometimes it likes to be a cock and not stop at all though. I managed to stick grav once without ES, pure luck even moreso than landing something on a toau HNM.

BLM sub is such a waste for a RDM in Salvage.

My group uses kind of an opposite strategy, which seems to be based on this behavior. My team usually brings the entire party/alliance to the porter room. We engage it, then everyone stays inside the room hanging out at the north wall (within 30 units). As long as no one goes chasing it past the porter room door, it'll run right back to the person with hate before getting too far away (without losing aggro or even claim). Don't even need to bother with DoTs to keep its hp down or clearing any of the rooms since by then we usually have our hp/ability/magic/ranged fully unlocked.

Edit: this is assuming we are going north, I'm sure that the same strategy will work for the south route.

We usualy have 2 RDM (6-7 person going), one of the RDM go to the quiqirn while mele clean first room and store TP. When the RDM arrive to QQTH he Nuke -> Bio II. All mele + the second RDM wait him then pop flee potion (there a lot of those in the coffer @floor 1-2-3), the second RDM use Chainspell, it will diedbefore starting his way back.

Re: Speedy kill for 3F QQTH.

We manaburn it with 3 BLM. AMII > ES+Bind > AM2/tier4 kills it. We started doing it this way after having too many inconsistant results with trying to make it run back into porter room (it likes to just run wherever. Only thing I'd suggest is nuke from 20 away in the direction it will run, then after binding reposition yourself incase it comes unbound early. Also get your THF to steal from it whil its bound to get the TH in. Many probly dont go in with 3 BLM though.

And the psychflayer direction is much more difficult but can still be donw without killing.

We tried this yesterday, worked well. He ran 3 times, but came back the latter 2 times. I think the first time some people ran to the wrong wall.

Much safer and simpler than chasing him up to blood aggro land.

Same thing today, it got away 1/3 times. This might have been because one of us chased it as far as the door, but I think it deaggroed before it got far enough around in the big room to be back in range. Maybe running to the corner just inside the door will work better?

Also, looking at the map I think a similar strategy ought to work near the entrance porter: have one person go pop and pull QQTH, and the rest of the group chase no farther than the corner of the hall nearest the entry porter. The path from there back to the exit porter stays close to that corner pretty much all the way, so he ought to consistently come back.

Incidentally, QQTH seems to take 1m30 to run from one porter to the other, which just happens to be the duration of unresisted elemental dots and fully merited dia/bio3.

assuming you're on the north side (flip them as appropriate for the south) we've had great success just chilling in the northmost 3rd of the room and beating him up when he comes round. he's come back to us once when someone chased it clear to the door, but in my experience you're playing with fire if you try that. on the other hand, if you want to make sure he goes away, move to the southeast corner of the room and tuck yourself in as best you can there. with some camera positioning, you can watch as he passes the N/S hall from the big room and goes east if you're trying to keep sending it back to the entry porter. honestly though, the best way i've found is to just hang out on the northwest side of the room, staying far clear of the door and let him come to you. you can beat him to death there in a matter of a few minutes and lol as the mythical coat doesn't drop.

Re: Speedy kill for 3F QQTH.

I'm not the strategist, but the kills I've participated in use a mage (BLM or RDM) sneaking into the south portal room while everyone else waits in the center room and we essentially play tennis, batting him back and forth. Disseverment is pretty amazing for this purpose-- takes 2-3 volleys at most. Just gotta be careful about him dying while unclaimed.

Usually we skip 3F QQ because nobody else picked morrigan robe for wishlist and it tended to be a big time-waster more often than not. Tonight though we tried the "hug the wall closest to the big room so he keeps turning around and heading back" thing and it worked perfectly. The first time he turned right around when he was on the other side of the wall from the corner we were huddled in, the second time he ran a little further but we kinda followed along the wall and he turned back. I highly recommend it. Dropped Macha's too which was pretty cool.

Re: Speedy kill for 3F QQTH.

#1: As soon you zone in, send 1 blm or rdm to the portal. Blm preferably, but rdm works too if you don't have any.
#2: While the mage is running to the center, have everyone clear the first room (and start clearing the 2nd if you can. Make sure you save tp on the last mobs)
#3: Once the mage get to the center, have him engage with a nuke, followed by bio/dia. The qiqirn is spell locked during the animation, and you can easily nuke once and land a dot on it after before he start moving. At this point, he should start heading toward the center of the zone. It's very important for your mage to stand in the corner the closest to the center of the map, otherwise, he will reaggro it through the wall when it goes in the long soulflayer/ghost room.
#4 Once the qiqirn get to the other party, have people use hermes quencher if they got any on first floor (you usually get 1), try to land grav and give everything you got to kill it. With accuracy song, you should normally be able to drop in before he run away. If he is really low, chase him through blood aggro and have your brd sleep them, otherwise, let the blm on the otherside finish it (or send it back a second time).

We almost always always kill it in one trip to the center of the room with 7 people (mnk war thf brd whm rdm, + another random job).
