    So tell me about WOTG...

Seriously, I am a veteran player and have done just about everything in the game, and I am always up on missions. Somehow I just have found no way to engage in WOTG. No, I am not bitching about lack of content at all I am just saying it, as of right now, is of no interest to me.

I want people to give their "Book Report" on WOTG. Go Go Go.

    Okay I'll bite.

70 inventory is awesome, although you don't need the expansion for it. Dancer seems like a job with a lot of potential, but scholar could use some work to say the least. Campaign battles are fun if you're into that sort of thing, which I am. They're great for jobs that don't regularly get merit invites, or for people who don't enjoy merit PTs or soloing for their buffers. I estimate I've gotten 300k exp from campaign battles alone.

Even if you don't enjoy them, you should campaign enough to rank up to the highest rank anyway. For one, history has shown that there's a good chance they'll release something rare/ex you'll want from AN (think Perdu weapons), and it will take you at least two months just to get to the rank people are at right now when the time comes. For another, if you do eventually decide you enjoy campaign, it'll be frustrating that you're only getting 3600/h max while everyone else is getting upwards of 5k/h. It's not difficult to rank up now, you can set aside a day to campaign for a few hours and that'll probably be sufficient for the early ranks. Later on you may have to do it a bit more to rank up, but you do have 5 days to do it, and if you're lazy you can just do the AFK in dungeons thing.

I hope this was the kind of response you were soliciting with this thread.

It's not really an expansion in the sense that it's expanding the breadth of things to do in-game, it's more like an extension of ToAU. More Besieged, more immediately accessible content, more pointless jobs.

Honestly that was probably the best summary of We Overestimated The Grandeur you're gonna get.

Thanks for the replies. I understand dnc and sch and the gist of how Campaign works. How is the storyline thusfar?

The FFXI storyline is always great and wotg is no exception. Only downside is it is kind of short at the moment but still interesting. It's usually everything that's not the storyline that is lackluster.

Re: So tell me about WOTG...

If by storyline you mean the mission line, it seems there will be one sidestory for each nation with an overlapping story involving Cait Sith. As of now, there are three "Missions"(though one of them is just basically a name for now) and three quests per nation(with the first being skippable and only required to do if you want join that nation's forces). You only need to do your own nation's quests to continue the storyline, but you can do the other optionally.

So we got a lot more storyline right out of the door than we did last expansion, which makes me think we'll get a lot missions/story out of this expansion but it'll look small as do Rank missions if you don't count all three.

As for general quests, background, and characters, it's been very interesting. There are a lot of interesting characters like the Campaign NPCs.

I guess I should point out this expansion has a lot of great non-merit camps(and maybe some decent merit camps) that probably won't see much action until much later due to people slowly adapting(probably will hear "I've never been there/Don't have that Maw" more than you will ever here Staging Point problems).

This has been annoying, since while leveling DNC I had been hoping to check out some new spots. Not only are most people (even in my own LS) lacking teleport access to at least a few areas (if they have any), some people still don't even have the expansion at all.

I like the storyline aspect of seeing famous characters in the past - the windy quest line made me laugh a lot at the boy genius trying to dodge his studies. Nowhere near enough of it - even just more little quests that would add some flavour to the world (things like the TOAU launch quests with the likes of the Galka grocery thief) would have been nice to bring out at the expansion launch.

Same. When I took my LS static into the past, three of the six had never set foot into that zone (thus no maw/couldn't teleport), and one person had zero AN. c.c

It is a demo disc. The rest of the game comes on patch day.

LF pretty much summed it up here. In my view, the expansion has a lot of potential. Right now it seems like S-E is trying to approach the casual userbase of FFXI, but I do believe that they will have the "hardcore" content released with the upcoming patch. Since S-E is a lot more involved with its player base than it previously was (especially the endgame community) they will (hopefully) see the players' longing for new instanced events, NM, etc. Speaking on the current available content, while it feels a bit empty, it is still breathtaking to explore the new areas and the music score is fantastic. I personally do not enjoy campaign so I won't bother speaking on it (considering there are 10k other threads already on it, I would just be repeating already stated complaints).

Re: So tell me about WOTG...

COR is about as pointless as a pissed-off porcupine.

So far, it's more like a nice content update than a full expansion- +10 inventory, a respectable source of solo exp at no risk of exp loss, a few nice items from same, some added quests, and a lot of shortcuts + new exp areas (even for Valk Hell levels) that fill in some gaps in the pre-ToAU levels and even a bit beyond (up to around mid 60's).

More is coming, and /DNC seems to have found a good place for itself. DNC main definitely gets some PT invite love as well. Scholar is more tricks than substance so far, though it's gotten some love in the form of an effective WHM subjob.

But if it was a horse, you could see the ribs. Needs more feeding up with new content, the update should help there.
