I really enjoyed my time playing FFXI, I'd consider another SE MMO if they improved a few things (hi2uinstancedHNMs).

nono, pretty sure they still have no fucking clue. They ARE doing better now from what I hear (I quit back in '06), but it's too little too late IMO.Originally Posted by Moosey
And they still suck as far as hacking/items dropped/deleted/removed/etc. is concerned.
I wont jump on this one right away. I would wait a good 6 month or so before i jump on the rails and play. Aslong as it doesnt have the same setting. I'm kind of getting tired of mid evil esque crap.
I personly would enjoy playing another MMO since I dont really play ffxi anymore, and i really hate WoW.

oh the ramblings.
There are a few good looking MMOs coming out this year. SE got no fucking chance really. But anyway, i seriously doubt this new MMO is anything like FF XI. At least it wont go into the same market. As far as i know there will be at least one more expansion for XI.
SE needs to just stick to what they are good at, which is not MMORPGs.
And what would that be? Making SNES/PS1 games?Originally Posted by Scythiroth

I dunno, people bash FFXI a lot more than I think is warranted. Where are all of these amazing MMO's everyone's comparing this game to, that make FFXI so horrible in comparison. I can't think of many MMO's beside WoW that exceeded FFXI in terms of max playerbase, (Lineage and Lineage 2 I hardly count, due to them targeting such a HUGE audience.) Ontop of that I don't even feel they're games that warrant the huge playerbase they get, koreans will pretty much play just about any MMO that's thrown their way.
Sure there's WoW, yeah I played that for about a year, but unless due to me missing the pre-TBC content by like a month, it's a pretty lacking MMO also, only in different ways. Honestly the lack of a competent community really made me leave, and even when I did get into a HS/BT guild after deciding making one on our own even with 10 good players was near impossible, we blew through content so quickly it was sad. And the content that was hard was only because it was a cockblock, nothing to do with the actual skill/strategy involved in the fight. (Hai2u resist fights and lame attunement quests.) Only reason I really even lasted as long as I did was due to false expectations.
If FFXI is too stuck in its ways, then WoW is the exact opposite of the spectrum. Too willing to bend, change, and distort anything in the game to appeal to having a larger player base, effectively ruining most of the prestige of the game.
Well this wasn't a WoW bash by any means, nor an FFXI praise, just trying to keep things into perspective, that as far as MMO's go, there's no truely AMAZING game out there, and that a lot of it is what you made of the time you had with the game. I think this monster of an MMO that everyone is waiting for isn't going to ever exist, as long as developers insist on sticking with the addictive, bogged down template that every MMO is appealing to at the moment. IMO all Square has to do is step away from that template of what everyone else is producing, and they have me as a customer. To be honest they did just that with FFXI, there's no MMO like it, for both good and (very) bad reasons. All Square has to do is take its uniqueness and fix the mistakes they made, and I feel this next MMO could surprise us all.
they're bashing the customer service and support much more so than the game itself. very little info on development, ignoring one side of the player base, awful at dealing with hacks, coding, anything concerning your characters, and super slow responses to game problems and fixes.
I'm aware, that was basically involved in the "fixing their mistakes part". I think a lot of it was just them disagreeing with what we felt should be changed in the game, and to that extent I commend them. All FFXI needs is to be another WoW clone where the masses dictate what endgame content is. I agree entirely on the terrible GM system, rampant hacking, cheating, must be gotten rid of or made null and void like WoW has mostly for the next game to succeed at all. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." I think they know the playerbase will recognize the same old bullshit the second time around, and they won't be so willing to stick around without all of that time invested.Originally Posted by Demetrius*

I might prod it with my trans-continental 3000 mile pole, the hell if I get any closer to it than that.
The new MMORPG is not going to be a sequel to FFXI in any way or form as said by SE.
If it doesn't allow you to change jobs while retaining the same identity in game, I'm not even going to take a serious look at it at all.
Who fucking cares about the cutscenes, I just want the gameplay.Originally Posted by Ace-o-fire
