Sooo I might be going to Dubai....

I talked to him tonight; he describes Dubai in a positive note for the most part. There's not much to say about Dubai, coming from America. It's a hot and very large city, and modern for the most part. When I asked him about population and density, he told me that it's ok; not too crowded, spread out evenly, etc. etc.

Expect a lot of sand, heat, and grass only in downtown areas. As for the beggars and the homeless, he says he hasn't encountered any. When I asked him, it was a quick and confident, "no." Wasn't sure what else to ask on a footnote; I'll talk to him again if you have any specific questions in mind.

Those questions didn't come to mind, but I'll be sure to ask him. I know he stayed in hotels on his visits there. They wouldn't last for more than four to five days, but I'm sure he has a decent idea of how much a meal would cost and things like that. I'll catch up with him again tomorrow for you.

Dubai was one of the ports I went to when I was in the navy and I liked it. Visit Wild Wadis waterpark, its sex. When I went they had lots of jewelry stores and I guess gold is cheap. So try visiting a Gold soque (sp?)

Old salts on my boat where telling me how they would buy lots of gold there and sell it back home. Taxis suck big time and they tried to run the cab fare on me a couple of times but me and my friends caught on and gave them the business.

Dubai also has that one hotel which is the only hotel with the highest rating and has a fleet roles royces. Which is actually near the water park. They do have malls and stuff there like in the states. And some of my friends tried sand surfing/boarding (like snow boarding but with sand).

I was pretty limited on how far I could go being in the navy and all but the malls and water park where really nice and you can probably find PC parts there cheap aswell. Driving around I did manage to see a Hardrock in the distance. But this has been about 5 years now so lots may have changed. Like Kuya mentioned I guess ask Firas for more info. I got together with my father again and went out to eat, but didn't get to stay long, so I couldn't ask everything. He told me that food is cheap over in Dubai, however, the living cost is not. It's expensive to live there. As for culture, it's the Middle East, expect Arabic and Middle Eastern cultures and influences. He also confirmed the voltage and outlet types, which is basically the same as mentioned earlier.

Didn't get to ask him about tourist sites or things you should or shouldn't do.

Places to go:

-Wild Wadi
-Burj Al Arab
-Mall of the Emirates (Ski Dubai is there too)
-Gold Soque
-Hard Rock is quite the busy place, nice place (filled with Americans)
-Visit a city called Fujeirah 2hrs drive. Visit Al Aqaa Beach Resort, very cheap, super nice. Has a big rock in the shape of snoopy there, can go snorkling and shit around it.
-Join a Hotel beach on Beach Road, Jumeirah Sheraton is a good price and one of the best. Just so you make use of the flaming sun and the humid weather we have.

Living rates are infact high, but its not over the roof.
Food/Clothes are cheap if you dont eat out much.
You'll have a very wide variety of different dishes/cuisines there, I mean the whole country is based on imports, so you'll get your western food, asian food, arabic food, pork, blah blah. As a matter of fact i heard the food here is better in quality than in america, I'm not sure how valid is that statement though.
Alcohol is expensive, unless you give me a call.
