They were asking information from a business did not need a warrant. Did need your opinion on the matter either as you didn't own the business. They could have detained you and be perfectly in the right to do so. Warrant are only necessary for searches and seizures(if they have the time to get one but thats a longer explanation), Asking for the manager/owner is neither. They left a business card so they were likely looking for someone that worked their previously, they are well within the right to do that.

P.S: CSI IS A TV SHOW don't take it for the word of Christ. Best bet is to stfu if you aren't involve in their questioning shit from a tv show won't help anything.

I don't know who lied to you and told you that they could detain him for speaking to his wife lol. If you want to argue your case by screaming "well, there's terry stop", that's just absurd. Unless it's military personel, the Padilla rule does not apply.

If you ever get on the job, or actually know anyone on the job..... shit is situational. I'm the nicest guy in the world, but for certain things you gotta be a complete ass to get information. Most investigations, if your the nice guy you get the whole "I plead the 5th yada yada yada yada" then you have to do stuff the hard way, and usually there is nothing there and could've been settled by the person just saying there was nothing. Just like if a officer pulls you over....and wants to search your car (for whatever reason) if you got nothing to hide, let the officer search. Ya you got your civil rights, but in the end you don't give consent to search its your time be wasted (and taxpayer money) while the officer waits for a K9 unit to respond, and in the end the officer is still on the clock and could care less.

Now if a officer is a general asshole, sadly it gets stuff done quicker. I don't know if its the intimidation factor or what, but you get the information you need without the whole "fuck you pig" stuff.

*note* and by asking questions, where he is not affiliated with the party being questions it is considered interfering with a investigation. Its the same way if a officer is arresting someone, and you run over claiming hes a good kid/waste time..... can be detained for that.

QFT. It widely various on your types of neighborhoods and the actual manors at hand. Some people are lucky to get cops to show up for them that actually give a shit. Personally, I've noticed the percentage of awesome cops is less than 50% of the policemen in shitty neighborhoods.

In this particular instance however, his wife wasn't being questioned, and that's who he spoke with. Assuming this is the whole story, the police were questioning his uncle, and stopped questioning his wife when she said she was a fill-in. His wife had no legal right to provide the officer's with any information on past employees.

To walk into a place of business I don't think they need a warrant. check into that but I'm pretty sure that Cops can walk into any public area of a business, like front of store, but not like the storeroom or a manager's office.
In concerns to the way they spoke to you, your kinda SOL, now had they poked anyone or gestured to their guns you might have something, minor tho it might be with the poking thing.

Also are you sure they were cops? did they say they were cops or just flash their badges?
A lot of organizations which are not truly law enforcement like to make people think they are cops. Child services, various inspectors for shit like health or safety etc.

okay, so on a totally different note, I read from various internet websites that they can't search your car unless you give them authority to do so. So they can be assholes and detain you for absolutely no reason and wait for a k9 unit?

they can search your car if the see something or you give them probable cause, and they can detain you and wait for a warrant. So if you don't have anything best for your time to let them search if you have something well you're fucked anyway. They don't need a warrant to arrest you on the street if the are extenuating circumstances and they believe that at that point they don't have time to get a warrant.
