I've been meaning to check this for a few weeks now and somehow it keeps slipping out of my mind to actually go do it, but before I go try I thought I'd ask here. With the status Max HP Boost, given by several spells/items, it the amount "boosted" determined at time of status application and remains the same until it wears, or does it vary depending on your actual max HP?
Currently, for DRK zergs, I've been putting on my max HP gear, then getting cured to full, then casting Drain II (with a likely resist, thus planning on sticking a merit in Dark Seal). Assuming I go from 1400 to 1700 from TP gear to HP gear (rough numbers, not in game right now, so calling about +300), then cast a, say, 100 drain II, taking me to 1800, that's what I normally work with. What I'm curious about is if I go from TP gear to dark magic gear, hitting a drain II for 250+ instead, taking me from 1400 to 1650, if I then switch to HP gear, will I just increase my max HP from the normal 1400 to 1700, thus making the max HP boost that took me to 1650 worthless, or will it continue to apply the +250 after I go to 1700, for 1950?
I remember in besieged a long time ago I used a giant's drink, for about +1400 hp, then accidentally casted drain II, and my HP dropped from 2800 to 1550, replacing the old one, so I can't remember which order the game applies the status. If you switch to gear that puts you above what the status is putting you at, does the status still apply? I have very few resists in full dark magic gear, so if it does, I probably won't merit Dark Seal. If it applies a status that only increases HP to a level at the time of cast, though, I will.
If no one knows offhand, that's fine. This post will remind me when I get home from class to actually go test this for once instead of being lazy. But thanks if you do know how it works or have already tested it, it'll make my decision a lot easier.
