Because it's hilarious to have access to probably any gear you want to type in (I assume these are generated toons used for the fight), and to be tanking in an Earth Staff, as a Pld/NIN, in a KOENIG body, with at least two Relics in the alliance with you, as opposed to an Aegis, where the -25% Magic Dmg would be really fucking handy... and I dunno, a chainsaw or haute or something.

They said it's killable with 18. It seems that matching 2 hours doesn't prevent AV from continuing to use the 2 hour, rather it stops AV from using that 2 hour again in the fight. With so many devastating and potentially alliance-wiping 2 hours, did SE forget about the other linkshells that will be waiting in the wings, lagging out the alliance fighting AV? You know, the ones that will swoop in like vultures to claim when AV wipes an alliance? All the work 1 LS does to fight JOL then whittle down a number of AV's 2 hours will be for naught as soon as the LS wipes and another one claims it for the kill.

ok I watched all 4 videos (french, german, japanese, english) and paused each one every few milliseconds and wrote everything down.

The videos all have the same basic format, a few minutes of JoL, then showing us the locking of regen by casting spells matching the day, then "dealing with" AVs 2hrs 3 different times in each video. Each of these 3 "examples" are pulled from a different timeframe, with some duplication between videos.

Here are the 2hrs used by AV, in order, assuming the fight was done over one Iceday > Lightningsday period:

1. Iceday 12:10, Call Wyvern (from English video, part 3)
player 2hrs used: blm, pld, smn, drg (call wyvern), rdm, brd, blm

2. Iceday 14:42, Soul Voice (from Japanese VIdeo, part 1 and German Video, part 2)

Funny thing is after using Chainspell and Meikyo it was able to cast several spells in a row, and if you look at the Meikyo video it uses medusa javelin a 2nd time just as the screen is fading to black. However, it never seems to get AF off, at least not before the screen cuts away til another timeframe.

ya weird...also he used Soul Voice and Astral Flow twice.
So he still "could" use Benediction twice...

Hmmm, well thats disheartening, assuming it is one fight, the only benefit to the 2hrs would be in preventing other 2hrs perhaps.

If it isn't one fight, then it's a bit of a logic leap, but I guess it still makes sense.

is it normal for it to say AV readies chainspell and then AV uses chainspell?

I found that strange too. In the 4 videos AV uses astral flow, hundred fists, soulvoice, call wyvern, mekyo shisui. But he doesn't "ready" them in the chatlog. However he "readies" Chainspell then "uses" chainspell.

We get it already, lolSE and such, at least they released the thing.

I think it makes sense that using 2-hours locks them from being used again. It also is possible that it may only need to be a certain 2hr but they didn't want to be that obvious (and looking at the timeline, it looks like a 8 hour fight). Depending on how fast you have to use your 2hr to be effective, they may have just decided to hit 2hrs as soon as they saw the animation, so they didn't know exactly what was used (chat lag)

If it's more than 1 fight, then it should be a hint that using 2hrs will lock SOMETHING, simple answer would be that same 2hr, complex would be some weird inter-relation between the 2hr he uses, and the 2hrs we use, and the 2hr that actually gets prevented.

The best would be if it was worked out that say, using Soul Voice when AV uses Chainspell, for some reason locks Manafont up. Then it would be simple enough to watch for 2hr X, use Y, lock Z.

The way it probably is going to be is, you see X, you use X, AV can't use X again that fight.

Not as handy, but going through one Bene and knowing there won't be more, or surviving a Manafont > Meteor rampage safe in the knowledge that it is over would make a huge difference.

Kind of like fighting Kirin, you know he's going to crap out 4 mini's, and AF once, but once it's over, he's a big ugly pussycat for the most part. (aside from Tp burning)

Oh, and another thing. Maybe AV using a 2hr does indeed reset your own though most of you are understandibly skeptical about that. In my mind it seems quite plausible that resetting your 2hr's is meant to help you survive his own 2hr and nothing in the sense of stopping future usage. Two things that break this line of thought are meteor and benediction, since I don't know of any way 2HR usage can help everyone survive meteor and benediction, well... you know. The reason why I think this might be right is because it explains all the multiple 2hr usage in the video and the following observation: AV had a 2HR animation right before he died. Doesn't that seem to imply you can't lock his 2hr's at all?

People assuming SOMEONE should have noticed their 2hr coming back in all the AV attempts make a valid point. On the other hand, people showing surprise about AV "readying" chainspell makes me wonder how many people discussing in this thread are speaking from personal experience... cus I know I'm not :bagel:
