I think that is a logical approach, but it is pretty technical and will be difficult to get feedback on unless an LS truly buys into it. I could very much see that being the case, though. Elemental WS (hell, elements in general) have had so little to do with FFXI until the sea gorgets/obis came out. It's very possible this was their intended use, or a hint at how to defeat him.

It's a simple fact if you are not stopping its ability to cast meteor during manafont, this mob is unkillable.

If we cannot live through the spell what would make them able to live through it, not to mention it uses it back to back during the 2hr.

Alright, after watching the video again I came up with a little theory based off some conclusions of my own.

In this video they gave themselves the ability to two hour multiple times, now to replicate this we would need multiple people with multiple jobs but for simplicity sake I believe they just ignored this.

Now, given that I also noticed something else, after the first 2 "Two hour phases" they stopped using the same two hours over and over. There is one that they used just about every two hour imaginable and then the next one they only use a couple. Then again on the next phase they only used a couple again. I believe this is atributed to they actually did lock the 2hrs some way and are showing us this by not repeating the same two hours every two hour phase. It could be just dumb luck, as in you hit your 2hr when he does and hope it works.I know this could be a long shot but there has to be SOME reason their not just spamming the same 2hrs every two hour phase.

Further more, as for him not using Meteor at all, maybe the nuking order I mentioned previously has something to do with that?

What narse says is true, however missed the finer details. While on soulvoice, the AV didn't slaughter per say...he went one by one charming ur 4 aegis pld/nins, then went on a lil rampage, you got semi under control again...then a benediction went off, healing an om'aern for 2600 hp, and another for 0. Then it went and did manafont, which raped all but sinus...who's shadow ring went off twice in a row doing 0 dmg meteors(which was cool to see lol).

Order of 2hr's that apathy's AV was... (he was under call wyvern atm and had 3 wynavs out)...APathy started with agas to take out wynavs > holding AV > smn 2hr> war > whm > sam> call wyvern(they aga nuked them down again) > brd > whm > blm(which raped). I believe that was the order.

edit: 2hr's lasted same length as our 2hr's last, according to soulvoice/mighty strikes, before he used the next 2hr.

Well my ideas may not be original, but they have relevance.
I honestly think that the video was not a full-fledged fight of AV, just bits and pieces to demonstrate the proper strategy, along with a debug edit to AV's stats to show they finished it off. The video reveals all:
We only see fighting occur during iceday and lightningday, which suggests a very short fight, maybe over an hour from start to finish. The alternative would be that they do the whole fight over 8 hours, through a whole vanadiel week, and end on the next ice/lightning day. This is unlikely, because no game company in their right mind is going to call in a bunch of game testers to work overtime just to fight a monster from start to finish to prove it can be done. Unfortunately, this is the only plausible way that the 2-hour abilities could be used repeatedly without the assistance of a Corsair or Besieged event, neither of which should be relied on for such a task.
The answer is that they did cheat, because their objective was to show us the strategy, and imply that it works successfully. They used administrative tools to reset their 2-hours, enable some high-defense god mode so they don't have to fight it 10 times when they invariably wipe from bad luck in 2-hour selection from AV, and reduced the time it would take them to fight it so they could get the video done in a couple of hours.
The sad thing is that whatever obvious strategy regarding the 2-hour usage we're supposed to pick up on is seemingly ineffective, even in their own fight. AV still casts Aero V and Aeroga IV at chainspell speed (well I would actually say AGA4 was normal speed compared to the ramuh fight) and still used Virelei, where in both cases the video cuts away conveniently where the fight should have turned badly (Charms, Meteor). If the 2-hour trick doesn't affect AV's 2-hour ability, and we don't see any other effect, then the video really doesn't reveal anything. And of course, there's also the fact that normal players likely only have one shot at making it work, since there's likely not half a linkshell full of corsairs ready with Random Deal at our disposal. If there was any effect, it would have to last for 2 hours or it would be useless.

So in short, their video is all some bullshit. If using our 2-hour abilities has any effect, we'll have to discover what the hell it does.

Actually, I was the only PLD to not die during Manafont. Sinus died on the last one, which I had a ring proc on, but the two that he had ring procs on, they only hit me for between 300-400. For what it's worth, I popped Fealty when it did Manafont. While I don't see the correlation between Fealty and Meteor, and I am leaning more towards chance than Fealty actually having an effect on Meteor, I can't deny that I did resist every meteor that I didn't have a ring proc on.

I guess I will finally post something constructive to the thread, given that people are approaching this with a decent sized number of people, I wouldn't say it'd be unreasonable to have a BLU or two (or three, depending on the LS) Diffusion -> Saline coat the support jobs @ manafont, it's not like he back to back manafonts, and most likely the cooldown will be up in between.

PLD can fealty, over generally hobble through at least enough to hold it through manafont, it's the support that really gets fucked up. It's not an answer, but it possibly gives you the ability to hobble through for a few minutes, recover, and continue trying OTHER strategies instead of eating a wipe 15 minutes in every fucking time.

Doesn't even come close to the problem of solving benediction, mijin, or otherwise, but it's hard to solve those problems when your entire LS is dead.
