If I burned through an entire mule's inventory worth of JoL pops and dlvld twice after only accepting r3's, I still wouldn't believe it was unkillable, nor would I shoot down the optimism of others. Because THAT would be shit spewing. Although if I did choose to begin the spewing, I've had an excellent teacher up to this point.

There's no way I can say I had tried everything imaginable either, because well, my imagination isn't that limited.

I take it none of you people have realized that the AV theory thread has been being compiled for easily over 6 months, and any time somebody pops AV or attempts it more info is added to it.

You fags act like this is the first source of shit for AV ever, we were given new information and tactics, the tactics were tried, everything that isn't explicity new has been being discussed for probably longer than you've known about these forums, yet you come here and think that FFXI runs off of hopes and dreams, and refuse to accept that possibly the mob is just broken.

The dev team for better or worse, basically broke the laws of physics in FFXI to kill AV, we can't do that, it's a game, programmed by humans, humans make mistakes. The chance that for year+ of positive speculation, testing, and research by thousands of people and still we have not just stumbled upon the fabled right answer vs. the chance that there's a problem in a script somewhere, well, I'll leave you to figure it out.

Leave it to some people to believe FFXI is like The Neverending Story, runs on fucking hopes and dreams, not lines of code.

I call bullshit that 2 hours arent involved in locking this thing down. why? SE wouldnt just use 2 hours like bene for no reason and zoom in on exactly that. Notice the bene that players would use would almost entirely cure an entire party about 900+ to each player when fighting AV.

That being said, SE's bene cured alot of people for zero! It has something to do with it that cant be denied. NO ONE! has tried everything that SE showed in the video.

SE states we our speed is too fast.. exactly, that's why you saw no DD on it until the end. Also, you see alot of tier 1,2,3 spells of the same day going off. Why in the hell would a blm cast thunder 1? Exactly! Take the video, give it time... Someone will get this..

my post won't include so much shitting on people's face as others here but i'm leaning towards either, the "Weakness" se proclaims to be shown in that video is so vague that they think it's staring us in the face but it isn't, because their minds are warped as to what should be easily figured out (i.e. kneeling to Odin), or the Weakness in the video will be Ninja'd into the game soon.

anyone can watch the video repeatedly and of course think of random things that haven't been tried yet but most of those new ideas are most unlikely to work i'd imagine, due to them being way too obscure, which ultimately probably have nothing to do with what they were trying to show us in the video. i'm guessing they were trying to show us something rather simple, but hasn't been ninja'd into the game yet, which is ridiculous and idiotic on their part. they had to know that once that video was posted, there would be numerous LS's trying to figure this shit out immediately

Ok I have to say a few thing. First lets not make this into a flame war thread, yes SE released a video of AV getting defeated with little info or direct pointers on how to kill him. But you have to look at it this way. What is the fun in having step by step direction on how to defeat him. If they do give you that is it really worth it. I play the game for a challenge. You can complain all you want about how stupid it is for SE to release this video. But to be honest whats stupid is running in there straight off the bat and casting all your 2 hours when AV does. Yes they try to point out they cast there 2 hours when he does. But there are many things to factor in.

I present a list of things to think about (yes pretty much all been discussed already, but why not try all instead of just one method).

1. Obviously they show they cast there 2 hour when AV does
2. Like above but also factor in the order of casted
3. Why they spam spells opposite to the vana diel day tier 1-4
4. Someone mention about someone kiting a wyrvn and for what reason
5. Factor in the vana diel day that AV was popped

But to be honest the best way to disprove something is to recreate the situation and go from there. So go get your galka bard and his Gjallarhorn and work on it pronto.

3. At the end, you seen a DRG, DRK, SAM, and w/e else beating it down for the kill. Maybe after it has reached a certain point of being weakened by Elemental magic, it can be easily killed because it has such low hp.

If I recall correctly, you also see a Thunder IV going off right before the final Gekko.

Actually it appears to be three or four thundaga 3s.

I know this is far back, but I think the "be careful approach" has some merit to it. Think, it's AV, so I'd imagine he'd only react offensively to you if you did the same. Maybe that's why they're only showing the SAM WS and the BLM Thundaga at the very end, because he can't retaliate obviously if he doesnt have time when you make the killing blow. Maybe the key is for you to react to his moves, not the other way around. I know that's reiterating what's been said before, but I'm basically stating a reason for it. This whole time in FFXI we've been fighting mobs and them reacting to what we do, perhaps this is the other way around. Don't do anything until he gives you a reason to react to it. (Another example is AV using Invincible against 6 KCing DRKs. No way that's a coincidence.)

Perhaps the Call Wyvern being used weakened(slowed run speed, etc) the wyverns somehow? Doesnt make sense why they'd flee with them if obviously they couldnt be kited. (Unless they were just moving them away to be nuked)

I know it could obviously just be that they only happened to show them nuking it at the very end, and ignored the rest of them nuking/using WSes. I doubt it though, combined with the "you're doing it at the wrong speed" quote, and their lack of any real offence till the end, makes me think this is the right angle. Basically I'm stating this again, because I feel for a fact that all of the above is the key to beating him. It incorporates the slow killing comment, low tiered elemental spells to keep his regen down, counter-acting and reacting to his two hours with your own, not the other way around. Only thing I'm stumped about is the whole Aern thing being related to him. Why make a comment like that and then not show a single Aern in the whole battle, either whether you killed them or held them.

P.S. I don't know why everyone is amazed at there being no Aerns. I was the add party for like 6 of our JoL/AVs and all I did was dualbox a RDM (or a BLM) and a BRD and held them indefinitely. Shitty job I know, but was incredibly easy and worth keeping them out of our hair.
P.P.S. Yes I read all 38 pages, have fought AV, and share your pessimism for this topic. I just thought I'd summarize from reading everyone's ideas, what I feel the true strat is. This is all assuming SE isn't full of shit, he's killable and the hints they've given us are truly worthwhile.

actually, it would be, figuring how much EXP/Real Time was lost to people playing this game, fighting AV when he wasn't killable without glitching the mob around terrain or using Cutscene tactics. i'm sure a lot of people wouldn't mind some free AV drops in their dbox from a GM with a sincere apology from the devs who put a broken mob in the game in the first place.
