Yeah, my bad.. I think that was from when I started trying to list things in order and I forgot to change clip# as I was moving things up and down and snipping stuff into the list (had wrong 2hr listed too).

I edited that post, and also, here it is again, including JP clips.

JoL Windsday to Iceday. Defeated on Iceday. AV pops on Iceday.

    1. English video, clip IV is chronologically FIRST. Iceday 12x (AV Call Wyvern)
    2. German video, clip III and Japanese video, clip II is next. Iceday 14x (AV Soul Voice (Seelenstimme))
    3. French video, clip III. Iceday 16:1x (AV Hundred Fists (Cent poings))
    4. German video, clip IV and Japanese video, clip IV. Iceday 16:4x (AV Meikyo Shisui)
    5. All videos, clip I. Iceday 23x --> Lightningsday 00x (Thunder casts, PLD using Invincible, no AV response.)
I think the lower Thunder casts are just for lower damage/TP, honestly, while working to break Regen.
    6. English video, clip III and French video, clip IV. Lightningsday 5x. (AV Chainspell (Chaîne de sorts)).
    7. English video, clip II. Lightningsday 06x. (PLD Invincible, then AV Soul Voice - most likely just slight chat log lag.)
    8. French and German videos, clip II. Lightningsday 08x-09x (AV Astral Flow (Flux astral/Astralstrom))
    9. Japanese video, clip III. Lightningsday 13x - (AV Astral Flow)
    10. End clips. All from different angles. German and English on one side (German more to the right I believe), French on other side. Japanese end clips look to be the same as English. Same Gekko kill, Homam DRG in same place in each video, DRK and PLDs near each other, etc.

EDIT: I had German clip III listed twice, bleh.

But I need to ask that paladin.. were you the only one taking 400? Were the others still taking 2000+ dmg?

About the blm/whm being camera toons.. We never got an angle from them, so kinda weird.. It's possible.. would explain why they dont take damage, they could have made them perma invincible.. I haven't fought AV in a while but I was pretty sure his aoe's hit people out of pt? been too frigging long. I think what somebody said earlier was the best.. just go in and try and replicate their moves w/o expecting anything.. just be open to what happens.. not "zomg it fucking 2 houred again i quit" attitude.

In their video, AV 2 houred at death.. right before it.. so you cannot stop the animations from happening, period, get over it.. the only thing (as i mentioned in an earlier post) was that MAYBE he does the animations and doesn't get the benefits.... I can't wait to test this myself.
Everyone else was eating huge meteor damage.

Re: The long awaited AV video (seriously read the whole thread)

    (I've never fought AV)

I propose an inductive study of all the videos released (Japanese, English, German, and French). By comparing the commonalities between the videos we can eliminate silly theories (if indeed they prove to be silly) related to the game clock or elemental day. If we study what is common in each video's "zoom" part, we can more narrow our theories.

We must presume that SE has credited us with understanding basic notions such as elemental weaknesses on certain elemental days (they are not trying to show us what the best day of the week is to engage AV).

And, as someone stated earlier SE would likely not post such a cryptic method contained within the video on their site (the clues are obvious). I believe the clues are in the 2-hour uses (and not in Taru /panic emotes, or Galka BRD’s; I know this comes as a disappointment to some of you).

We should dismiss presuppositions also, regarding multiple 2-hours within the period of minutes. The video is about "AV's weakness", not about how to gain an advantage in fighting him.

We can presume SE considers we will use all the common tactics when fighting such a tough mob that an end-game linkshell frequently uses .

We should also quit the debate as to whether the video was taken at the debut of AV some time ago, or if it is indeed recent. It doesn't make a difference – except in the case of the DRG 2-hour, but in this event it should be easy for a DRG to use both since it is unclear.

I had also read a theory somewhere, where someone observed AV only using 2-hours matching the jobs of the characters engaged with it. Which could be proof for why few melee are involved.

Further, we seem to be focusing solely on the AV fight. Were there any clues given in the JoL fight? Why was it necessary for the JoL sequence to be included?

If we would think inductively, dismiss our silly presuppositions, and presume only what the "zoom" sequences are showing, we should be able to find the weakness. I am sure it is quite evident.

Should make a rule against it. Also stupid joke posts, which are very uneeded and unhelpful. Take your oh so clever quips about the video to the spam forums, imo.

Yeah to save your ass from Chainspell I could see that, especially if he only is able to use CS once. It's a long enough fight to have it available, if nothing else. Also, 1000 Needles is "technically" magical, for BLU anyways (I'm aware cactaur 1000 needles damage is reduced my -% physical damage gear), and would very likely just get resisted like it does against everything else. I'd be willing to toss it out a couple times just for s&g's though. 350 MP/pop is a bear to try it too many times.

i was going to post earlier that i'd bet 100m gil that the JP vid had the 0:00 clip in it, and i haven't seen it. so yeah...

whatever is happening, happens THEN. they put a huge fuckin spotlight on it, it's up to us to figure it out.

needs moar discussion of the clip and prior actions relating to it, less random AV speculation like we already have hundreds of pages of.

i'll watch it a few times over lunch, screw applebee's.

I think most people agreed it was to show to kill the Phuabos and not hold them as has become custom for some LSes to do when fighting JoL.

As to Squall's bit about the day change, again, most seem to agree it is to show the change of elemental casts on AV from Ice > Thunder, outside the one BLM (Iws) who obviously just wasn't paying attention. Same clip in all four languages.

we already knew that part though, why would they put such emphasis on a point we've known for months? it's the only clip in all four videos, so it's obviously hugely important in this release.

i just don't see them purposely and very obviously spotlighting in this video, with all the hype and all of the delays, the only thing we already knew >.> yeah, it's SE, but come on.

And yet both tanks dropped when he started CS, until there was only one. Yes I'm aware how -GA damage works, but obviously it's not splitting the damage up well, as the first Mithra tank is hit for 1000+ even with 3 other players getting hit by the same -GA. Just look up at the above, it's manageable with a good Aegis tank, and probably just as well with a tank who has a full resist set. (assuming the resist would be enough keep him alive without the MDB -magic damage of Aegis.)
AV -ga damage isn't split across multiple targets like most -ga damage, if even at all.

We've seen better results just having one tank take all the -ga damage away from the rest, so that you're only curing one person for 700-1k HP as opposed to 3 or more.

Oops, I edited this into your post instead of replying first, was wondering where my reply was.

Anyway, yeah, we knew it but everyone was always like 'wtf, we don't care about AV's Regen, haha wtf does JOL have to do with anything," so I think they were reiterating this particular clue they gave us numerous times.

I know I have no right to be in this conversation as I've not even obtained sea yet, hell this is my first post on bluegartr (lurking for a while), but after watching the video, researching all of the theories I can find spanning the multiple FFXI forums I'm surprised that this one hasn't been given more testing. While I know that the spamming of 2hrs after AV does would technically encompass a more pinpoint "open/close" useage of WS's, there's a chance that by just wantonly spamming 2hr's could be doing more harm than good. I'll stop here.

Re: The long awaited AV video (seriously read the whole thread)

(I might get yelled at for this, but...)

    Has anyone been able to pull the video to a place where we can download it and play it slower instead of streaming, by chance? Sorry for not looking through 40 pages of BS to try and find that, btw. >.>;

But yea, anyone? Can I DL it somewhere?

Proven false over and over and over again. It's also completely illogical. Melee 2hrs are the LEAST dangerous, yet they have BLMs, WHMs and RDMs in alliance, which are the most dangerous 2hrs that AV can use.

Also, if you haven't noticed, many of us have been "thinking inductively" since the video came out. The problem is that the actual facts in the video are scarce, and there's very obviously not enough there to form a complete theory without both a) speculating and b) experimenting. As of right now, there's no c) applying logic to come up with a complete hypothesis, because we simply don't have enough of a base to reason from.

Re: The long awaited AV video (seriously read the whole thread)

    I have a question
Has anyone taken note of the next 2 hour after you use 2 hours en mass?

Because here is my thought as to why AV does the same hour twice.

    *AV uses 2 hour*
and let's say a 10 sec window is opened
and player 2 hours used in that 10 sec are locked for the next round of two hour only.
so let's say bene, mana, and invinc are used

So now AV uses another 2 hour
has any one seen (as per this example) bene, mana, or invinc used here?
and let's say this time we use Call, EES, and SV in the window

Now AV uses a 3rd 2 hour but this time only Call, EES, and SV are "Locked"
so there for Bene, Mana, and Invinc are up for grabs again.

so by this theory we would have to use ALL of the 2 hours at once after an AV two hour to fully lock him

if anyone has seen a counter example just say as it's easily enough discredited.

    ~Thanks

Re: The long awaited AV video (seriously read the whole thread)

I'll stick my head under the guillotine.

I think a lot of people are focusing way too much on the movie and forgetting what SE has said when people asked about AV. Lets think, and any help if I forgot something would be nice.

Things SE has said about AV before this video:
    1. You need to kill his regen.
    2. Your killing speed of AV is not correct.
    3. You need to nuke with the same element as the game day.
    4. The place where AV spawns has some relevance.
    5. You can't stop meteor. But you can avoid it but takes a lot of luck. (Since he only casts meteor under manafont that tells me you can't "lock" his 2hrs)
    6. The surounding mobs in the area have to do with AV's 2hr. (They referenced to aerns but didn't say it was just aerns. Could be other mobs have some relevance also.)

Want to say I am missing some things but eh. (All I can think of atm.)

So now go down the list with what they have said and the video.

    1. You need to kill JoL spawns to kill Jol regen and half of AV's regen.
We do this already. In the video they just kill 3 sets of shark. Its 9 sets of mobs (3 of each set.) Think they showed them killing 3 sets to show that his regen is killed. Personally don't think holding mobs after that causes a problem. Could be wrong

    2. Gonna leave this one alone for now.

    3. They showed in the video and people have done it and saw that his regen was killed cause of this.

    4. Who knows why. But they fight him there in the video for a reason I guess.

    5. Meteor takes a long time to cast. I know for CoP 8-4 you can run out of range of it before the casts gets off. Anyone try this? Don't know what to say.

    6. There are no aerns up the video and that leads me to think they have to be killed and not just b/c they would link but have some kinda relevance. Also maybe kill some of the other mobs in the area?

Hope this helps some people think of some new ideas and/or other stuff SE has said that I might have missed that might have a meaning to it. Please don't take this post for .

Don't want to see this thread keep going around in like it has been.

    Hi!

    Your AV post included:

    ( ) Aerns
( ) RDMs meleeing with staves
    ( ) Ebon panels
    ( ) Jailor Weapons
    ( ) A domaru SAM
    ( ) PLD/NINs with Earth staves
(*) SE devs using multiple 2 hours
    ( ) day changes
( ) an RDM/THF using diaga and Flee
    ( ) using 2hours to lock AV 2hours
( ) Making sure all player 2 hours are down around AV
( ) Splitting up meteor/aeroga damage among multiple targets
( ) suggestions about using no WS's or JAs
( ) Nuking according to day
( ) something else about the SE video

    Unfortunately:
(*) This has been mentioned before
    ( ) This is a stupid idea
( ) This AV insight has already been disproven as nonworkable
( ) You just made yourself look like an idiot
( ) You lack reading comprehension

Here's why your post should not have been made:
(*) You didn't read the full thread
( ) This idea is incredibly old - It was brought up 2 years ago
( ) You don't know jack shit about the fight
    ( ) You've never fought AV
(*) People are trying to actually discuss *new* things here
( ) You aren't currently watching another LS fight AV and giving us play by play action

    In addition:
( ) You're trying to talk about things you don't have a clue about
    ( ) You're cluttering a useful forum with spam
( ) You are not special nor a unique butterfly
    ( ) Your ideas aren't well-thought out
( ) You haven't tested your ideas yet - Please go do so and come back

    In conclusion:
(*) Run. Now. Don't ever look back.
( ) Set yourself on fire and improve the gene pool
(*) Go play Hello Kitty Online
( ) Stare more at Wafik's Captain Planet picture
( ) Turn the light on, walk upstairs, leave the basement and get some sunshine
(*) Make it a point to read up on things in the future before talking about them

    Have a nice day!

Someone improve this, and make it a point to add it to the first post of every AV thread. We sorely need it.

Who needs logic when everyone would rather rant that the video is completely worthless because 5 LSes rushed in and tried "everything" within 24 hrs of the video being out? Logic is no fun! Emotional outbursts ftw! :D
