1) Is it possible that using any 2hr/a particular 2hr during AV's 2hr will end his 2hr prematurely/shorten the duration on the 2hr?

2) Is it possible that AV will not follow up his CURRENT 2hr with any 2hrs that are used by you during his 2hr?

I'd like to believe those both are in effect, in regards on the key to defeating AV. Especially with the 1st. Could use a drg or two to Call Wyvern > Dismiss to cut short chainspell or manafont.

After using your two hour, did you still mash your two hour macro as you saw the dust cloud? Even if it seemed your timer was not up.

No we used them and that was it, they were not refreshed or anything of the sort.

I don't think it specifically links in that way, more like a they are doing damage to me so I'll avoid it by doing PD. That or it's simply JA -> Random 2 hour

It might be something extremely simple, like, he can't use the 2hr again for X amount of 2hrs, X being the number of people 2hring after his.

That could easily be chat log lag. The time stamp puts them at 1s apart, which could really be milliseconds but rounded up.

I think we need some testing on the theories being bandied about, soon.

Theory: Any 2 hr used after AV uses a 2hr cannot be used when AV 2hrs next.

Theory: Any Job Ability outside of 2hrs (including WSes, Bashes, Defenders, Seals, Provoke, Convert, anything anything anything ANYTHING THAT COMES UP WHEN YOU CLICK CTRL-J - EXCEPTION: CALL WYVERN AS THIS IS AV'S DRG 2HR) will cause a retaliation. This could also explain why we see no SMN damage, as Assault, Release, Blood Pact, etc, while Pet Abilties, likely also count as a Job Ability.

Those are basically the two that seem to have sprouted and seem most solid, with limited evidence within the resources we currently have.

If these are the case, esp the first, then it will require planning on having at least 1 if not 2 DRG (depending how often the 2hrs get used) in alliance to be able to use Call Wyvern each time, and a pre-set order for BLMs to Manafont. I'd say hold off on most everything else and just eat damage from Chainspells, etc.

After 5 BLMs Manafont, throw them in a party with an LS mule COR and try to reset Manafont while other BLMs are up in the order.

Also, if this is the case, you should technically be able to "lock" AV by having all jobs 2 hr after he uses his first Call Wynav or whatever. I have a feeling though, that this may not work or will have some sort of timer that it limits AV, because that... just seems too easy.

It's likely chat log lag. Xer probably saw his Shield Bash hit first, then PD used. I'm assuming that pic is Baishin's from chat colors.

I'm betting that Shield Bash happened before Perfect Dodge and just showed up late in the chat log, that wouldn't be anything remotely unheard of. Which once again could suggest that AV used Perfect Dodge in retaliation to Shield Bash.

Looks like Shield Bash caused PD there. I think we are on to something with the no JAs on AV theory. If it's true...wow. It really would be a simple soultion that will have people pulling their hair out lol.

I'm hoping that theory 1 is not as unfair as that seems. You'd need to have at least two people burning two-hour abilities every time Absolute Virtue uses his, and that's just to lock Manafont and Benediction. To get rid of any more would require an endless chain of people running around on sub-37 jobs from Sea to Safehold and back. Here's hoping that his two-hour ability usage is indeed based upon "retaliation" to player job abilities, as the alternative means a whole lot of people switching to level 1 Dragoons, White, and Black Mages to keep it from raping you or going back to 100% at will. Currently the "retaliation" thing looks like the least ridiculous possibility, but my inherent pessimism makes me sure we'll be disappointed and deleveled before anyone cracks the floaty lisping bastich.

it is of course possible AV is a drg mob by nature (no proof of this other than using polearm). So even if you did "lock" all his 2hours, he might still have access to call wyvern and then be able to 2hour more after that. Only way to test against this is to have all 15 people 2hour though...and if next is call wyvern, test again, and again

I wonder if weaponskills fall under the same category as JA's. They certainly do for Salvage pathos. (I know, CoP came first, but the mechanic is treated the same way).

I think the idea might be to possibly have to just deal with Benes and save usage of them until near the end. Bene was one that didn't get used every time, it was left out of more than one unlike the Call Wyvern. However, since I'm quite sure that it was just set that their JA timers would not get reset at all on any usage for this fight and video, they could have spammed Bene all they wanted.

But it is most definite that there are usually at least 2 BLMs, except for one instance, always using Manafont. As in, they literally said SOMEONE MUST USE MANAFONT EVERY TIME HE 2HRS. Their fight was no more than 2 hrs and change, I highly doubt they had a Meteor wipe.

EDIT:

To further on this point.. probably about middleish time on in the fight it would probably be better to control how many 2hrs get used if you do NOT use Benediction; the more 2hrs still available to AV, the lower the chances Bene is the one he uses.
