All squishy sea mobs (Aerns Hpemde etc) intimidate last I checked.AV intimidates one of the RDMs wearing Crimson legs in the video. It's safe to assume it's a DRG for all intents and purposes.
Anyway if AV truly is a "No Opacus" fight, it's very easy to see why every single one of us on both sides of the ocean missed it.
I assumed AV was DRG mob out of the fact he has the huge spearThe only mobs with Odd weapon/job combinations are in Dynamis IIRC.
Was Demo there alone? I wasn't talking about people in main aliance, I was talking about everyone in the area. He uses Astral Flow's in one of the translations I believe. The SMN are definately not in main aliance at all. Granted they have hate from casting cure, but maybe it is based on the area, not based on hate.Originally Posted by *Shinzon*
SE did say that the mobs in the area had some effect on it. Maybe AV can do any 2hour from any mob/PC within a 40 (or whatever) radius. The reason you keep the Aern's dead is so that you can control what 2hours he has the ability to use.
btw, only time I've ever been intimidated by an Aern while wearing crimson gear is if the Aern was DRG.
SAM aerns may use spears, too, I think. However SAMs don't have wynavs, so the combination of spear and wynavs is enough to confirm AV's job: A DRG with Meikyo Shisui and every other pre-WotG 2hour.Originally Posted by Tajin

First part of the vid, JoL, the video shows the blms -aga the sharks, killing them at once, a'la Yin/Yang. Supposedly to stop AV's regen. But, if you look at the 2nd round of sharks, one of the BLM uses stonega for some reason. Every other -aga used against the sharks is thunder. Mistake?
AV itself:
Invincible is used by one of the main PLD prior to any 2hr's by AV. AV then uses a 2HR, to which part of the ally uses their 2hrs. I wonder if this either erases the 2hr effect, or whether it simply stops AV from using those particular 2hr for a set amount of time. It was reported somewhere in the last dozen or so pages by Demo ls, i believe? that after using call wyvern, AV didn't use call wyvern himself for about 5 minutes. Maybe all we can hope for is to lock the 2hours down for a bit of time. It certainly doesnt stop him from using it completely, as we see him using chainspell when a RDM had used it earlier in the fight.
Also of note, No WS were seen to be used except to land the killing blow; SATA Catastrophe > Tachi: Gekko which should be darkness I believe. Other than that, there wasnt anything very special; the rdm meleeing and casting nukes seemed odd; Why not bring another nin or pld to help tank if that is what the rdm was doing?
Back then, he did use meteor without Manafont but only after he fake-locked and then started going insane with Comet/Metoer/Aeroga at 79%. Otherwise, AV did not cast Meteor. Remember this mode was glitched, so it really isn't something to go off of.
The RDM were not meleeing to do damage. They were meleeing for the chance at getting a parry to proc. Same with the PLD. You can't parry if your weapon is on your back, and every little bit will help with keeping the tanks alive.Originally Posted by Guitarman
There is a reason they are not Ageis PLD's. They are not trying to do melee damge for the majority of the fight.
I wonder how Wild Card would work for him.Originally Posted by Khamsin
Corsair Aern would be some win.
If anyone had hate from curing our alliance they certainly did not 2 hour. As far as I know Vega got cures from outside mages and there were people keeping the aerns in the back down most the time until Aeroga killed virtually all of the add/Wynav group.
If the red mage is being intimidated by AV with crmson legs... wouldn't that mean that AV is a demon?I thought the crimson legs made you dragon type, causing you to intimidate and be intimidated by demons. Never had any crimson gear yet though, so not sure, any advice would be helpful. ^^;
Also, building on the no WS/offensive JA thing, perhaps AV has two sets of 2 hours. One set he can use each 2 hour once at random, the other set he uses a random 2 hour whenever a wrong element spell/offensive JA/2 hour/ws is used. Of course, testing THAT theory would be a bit painful and long, but it also means that you might not be able to discount the no WS theory right off the bat if he 2 hours without any JA/WS used. You would instead need to see if he uses the same 2 hour twice while avoiding the use of WS/JAs.
Imps, Demons, Hpemde, Taurus, Ahriman and Dragoon have Dragon Killer as far as I can remember.
A bunch of us were helping cure the main tanks, but we did not 2hr. Aerns were being taken down by a whole bunch of melee. Tornado II hurts was hitting my 75brd/whm no defense buffs for 1500.Originally Posted by *Shinzon*

Crimson definately makes Dragoons intimidate you. I can't stand being put in a party with a DRG while I'm on RNG, because even your party members can intimidate you while wearing crimson.
Sorry to respond to a post from so much earlier in the day and so many pages ago, but this just isn't true from anything I've seen from AV. Even the numbers posted earlier of the amount they were taking, if you take the highest one that repeats 939, then some of the earlier ones match up exactly with hitting 2 and 3 targets. The reason it is easier to cure one person rather than several is because if T is the total amount needed to cure from an AoE spell hitting one person, then the total amount needed to cure for 2 people with identical stats is 1.6T, for 3 people is 2.25T, for 4 is 2.8T, for 5 is 3.25T, etc. So as long as one person can survive the single target damage, you're right that you are better off having them alone being hit (particularly since if they are the one you are choosing to eat the damage, they probably are better geared for it than anyone else who might also be absorbing it).Originally Posted by RKenshin
I know you and I have argued this in the past, but I still firmly believe meteor works the same way. The only difference is that T is too high for any person to absorb alone, so you need others around to lessen that damage-per-target. The problem then arises for most LSs that the more people you have around, the less likely all of them are geared to survive even the lesser distributed damage and will die to it, putting them out of commission for 5 minutes as well as leaving the survivors more susceptible to dying to a subsequent Meteor.
Only if you try to perform an action on them.Originally Posted by ByeByeTasai
