The AV Videos: READ THE -OP- AND THREAD BEFORE POSTING!

I don't believe that's the case.
He uses them regardless, I'm sure that not every 2-hour he uses is a reaction to things we do.

Remember, in the AV videos SE gave us he would use 2-hour abilities there... if they knew how to fight him while avoiding those, I don't think they'd have purposefully triggered them in an attempt to beat AV. (Considering what he can do to you... meteor, etc)

Part of the problem is that with a large group of people under the stress of a sudden AV pop and no clear plan of what to try and what not to try you're going to see people doing shit they shouldn't be doing. To that end, people shouldn't be throwing around definitives like "we tried X and it didn't work." Another problem is it seems that people are ignoring one aspect of AV and focusing on another (clearing the nearby Aerns comes to mind, someone mentioned them being hit with Benediction while trying the "retaliate with your own 2hours" strategy).

So far I'm seeing a handful of strategies that people should be trying, if possible, at the same time:

1) Keep nearby monsters cleared (potentially just the Aerns, I don't know), probably via outside helpers. SE specifically said to do this, no reason not to rule it out at this point. May also have something to do with non-retaliatory 2 hour usage from AV.
2) Avoid casting damaging spells which don't share the current day's element. Seems to provoke retaliation.
3) Cast damaging spells of the current day's element. Appears to neutralize AV's auto-regen, may have other unknown effects.
4) Avoid using weapon skills/Job Abilities. Seems to provoke retaliation.
5) Use 2 hours after AV uses a 2 hour. The SE video may just be showing that it's safe to 2 hour/JA/WS when AV uses a 2 hour, but there could be some unknown effect as well.

Further to 4, it may be possible that AV differentiates between offensive and defensive JAs.

It may also be possible that AV will use 2hrs regardless of what we do, just at a lower frequency based on whatever strategy SE has in mind for defeating it.

If anything, that attempt chronicled from last night points to the 'not letting him lose aggro' idea people were going on; dev team claimed him right off...

I was about to type that.

The readies vs. uses thing is interesting too... I remember having noticed that in some of the dev vids, thinking that perhaps the PLD that went "before" Soul Voice or whichever 2 hr it is in that shot had seen a "readies" and fired early, but it wasn't there as I recall, so it was probably just the chat log lag. But there is definitely a "readies" in one of the videos, be it SE clips or Demo's vid, I'm just kinda out of it atm and also don't have access to watching them atm to pinpoint.

In the Dev's video, AV readies Chainspell (After supposedly being triggered by the RDMs Additional Effect on her staff), and AV 'readies' Perfect Dodge in Demo's video after someone casting Dia.
All of the other 2-hours were used instantly.

Xer did Shield Bash then AV used Perfect Dodge...

Something I just thought of which perhaps someone from the community with good video editing skills could undertake.

Since it appears all the SE videos come from the same fight from different perspectives/timeframes. Combine all 4 SE videos into one video. Split screen would probably work best esp if there is overlapping scenes.

Perhaps this new perspective on the fight will help shed light on the situation.

Demo maybe, I have no clue, it was some where here in the thread, it was tried though.

Interesting note.. AV 'readied' one Perfect Dodge in the Demo fight, but also instantly used one, according to the log.
So either the 'readies' is activated by the wrong element (Since it looks like it's activated by Dia), or something else.
But it seems odd that it'd randomly 'ready' one, and then not the other.

AV popped on quetzalcoatl this morning. about 3 or 4 hours ago.

Integral was the LS attempting.

I'm not in integral, but a friend of mine is that doesn't post here, so I can give a pretty good explanation of what happened (I was also there)

Basically, the fight went much smoother if little/no weapon skills/JA's were used. Nuking with the day was also used.

Something to note, every once in a while, they would try to cast Bio. I assume this was to see what would happen.

Almost every time Bio was cast, AV would 2hr.

A few people slipped up and used weapon skills every once in a while. AV would -almost- always 2hr. I can't explain why he wouldn't some times.

They didn't get anywhere as far as I saw, but nuking according to the vana'diel day 100%, without a doubt, effects his usage of 2hrs. So do abilities.

Their final wipe of the morning was when the day changed, someone didn't notice, and used last days element.

AV smiled at them and proceeded to manafont meteor them.

He definitely counters mistakes.

Awesome. Though I have to ask, why did someone start using Bio to begin with? >_> Dia/Bio always wore off Absolute Virtue instantaneously, or so I remember anyhow

well, I don't know.

I'm piecing this together from the fight after it was already over. as it was happening, most of us didn't realize what was going on until it already happened and was over.

as far as I know they weren't trying to kill it, just seeing what would happen.

Very interesting post Tymon. The two things I keep wondering about is one from the video. Why is there a female blm hume in full af2 from what I saw never used 2hr and is standing next to AV in almost every shot doing nothing. And she never gets hit with AoE stuff. But near the end it looks like AV takes a swing at her and either somehow misses or hits shadow from blink. (Could have been swinging at someone else from the camera angle.) There most like has to be a reason why they had a blm standing next to AV the whole time. Just something to think about since people are trying to mimic the movie to see what AV does.

2nd thing I am wondering does AV react if you do a JA and WS with the same element as the day. IE using provoke on ice day do anything?

Just a side note. Last week when AV poped on us after JoL I voked it at one point when he was unclaimed and he did Chainspell right away and raped everyone.
