Yeah, that's what memes are.
How low did you get AV's HP during your longest fight? had blms nuking nonstop pretty much?Originally Posted by Derufin

An earlier group noticed that when they 2hr'd after AV, it went 4 2hrs before using manafont. It did this twice in a row. edit* 3 2hrs before manafont, manafont was the 4th each time.*
While its not really realistic for most ls to have a blm 2hr for every 2hr AV does, perhaps a blm 2hr then buys a couple 2hrs that you don't have to use a blm on, then blm 2hrs again. If enough time elapses between 2hrs, an 8 blm rotation or so could realistically keep their 2hrs up for use. maybe a mule cor could get em back for some buffer room as well.
The fact that you guys were able to avoid manafont for awhile is promising. If the wynavs were handled how good of a shot do you think you'd have had at getting its HP down? The next step is to get enough damage goin to get it down to that 90% or 80% marks to see if any reactions occur then.
Specifically, I'd like to see someone get it's health down to 79%. Aside from when they used the wall trick, every report I've ever read of someone taking him down to 79% (aside from those times when they used the wall trick) says that he began to spam Meteor. Obviously that isn't survivable, so perhaps that was caused by the glitch?
In any case, it would be interesting to see what happens if someone can get him down to 79%.
While the majority of this post was eye bleeding, I am wondering if there is some reason the devs only had 2h weapons there.Originally Posted by Muirlyn

Well since the proc on earth staff can cause doom, yes it does seem like there is more. I was referring more to the DD than I was the tanks.Originally Posted by Maytag
It's either coincidence or it's not that using a combination of two hours seems to lead to a segment of time where AV uses mostly non-harmful, weak two hours before blowing Manafont. It could either be that we just used too many two hours during these short segments and that Manafont was on the way, anyways, but as there have been multiple instances of this happening it is not something to completely throw aside.
If this actually is it though I think I'll be more angry than anything. It's freaking impractical.
I doubt that simply using a combination of 2-hours simply stops him from doing stronger ones, for awhile. It doesn't really make sense for them to program it this way. It would be more logical if there is a direct correlation between the 2-hours you counter with and the ones he can't use... so if you counter with Invincible, the %chance of him using Invincible goes down. I would guess it has to be something like that.
I dont really post much here anymore but whilrling wind was helping captain caveman and noticed some strange things. Earlier someone said that AV's every 4th 2hr was Manafont, for us it was Call Wyvern. Over the course of 20 minutes two tank parties with skilled plds and whm also witha relic bard had a hardtime keeping plds alive. If av used TP> aeroga 4 it was over for someone. The rdm/nin from what I saw kept little hate. On lightsday, an ES banish 3 did a puny 66 dmg. I think the using 2hd weapons is worth looking into, something i tried to get ppl to use but try taking a moron away from using his hauteclaire...
We never got AV's health below 97%, our longest fight we actually did the least amount of dmg since on that attempt we were using 7 BLMs to ga the wynavs and could only afford to put 2 BLMs in the main ally. BLMs were nuking pretty much non stop, but it was very light as we were trying not to pull hate off the tanks.Originally Posted by nsx
We actually did both on the aerns. The first attempt, we killed them, the second attempt, we killed them. The third and 4th we left them up, and on the fifth we killed them with the same BLMs doing wynavs.
Our 2 biggest issues in the fight were: (1)the wynavs, they were just as dangerous, if not moreso than AV himself. Out of the 6 or 7 attempts on AV, the reason we lost all but once, was the wynavs, and (2) hate, hate was a pain in the ass to establish. The reason we survived so long is the tanks spread hate very well, so that as soon as one nearly bit it, another was tanking. No one was able to establish a large amount of hate as every time someone Invinc'd AV would turn to them and simply destroy them. As long as the tanks were able to bounce it around, they would all survive, and that just made it very difficult for any of them to establish a large amount.
As a side note, one of the members of the LS that was helping (WW), made the observation that every 4th 2hr was Call Wyvern. I cannot confirm this as I was in the BLM wynav crew and could not count AV's 2hrs. *EDIT* Damn you bani!
It'd make RDM co-tanking even more critical, if Barspells and selfbuffs don't cause AV to go critical. Or since JA's seem to equal fail, swapping over to a subjob that can generate enmity via Barspell spam/Sleep/Dispel (ie, PLD/RDM?).Originally Posted by Massimo
Yes, PLD/RDM will tank AV beautifully, when it's not getting 1-shotted by medusa javelin, aero IV, or destroyed when slow or elegy falls off for a short time and he gets face smashed.Originally Posted by Kyreth

I keel you son. I don't recall you mentioning anything about using 2handed weapons last night; I said I was tempted to pop out the Terra's staff, but meh; some shield blocks were nice during Ichi recasts. And like Bani said, for us, every 4th 2 hour was Call Wyvern I think pretty much the entire time. Our longest "run" lasted about 20 mins of just basically holding him and staying alive, but it was Light's day so very little dmg was actually done to AV. It only did manafont once, and that was when it was first popped, but mostly focused on Perfect Dodge, 100fists, Blood Weapon, Soul Voice, and Call Wyvern for us. Our wipes usually occurred because on Dark's day, the Wyverns kept sleeping our BLMs wiping them out, then they would come over and mijin all over the main alliance. Then another time, Chainspell wiped most of the people. Might have gone better if we had fought it on non-gay days.Originally Posted by Banigaru
If we can manage to keep the Wyverns either away or dead, could be manageable. Personally, I want to keep 1-2 RNGs in the alliance so they can Shadowbind (with AF gloves) AV when it does Soul Voice/Chainspell/Manafont. Soul Voice isn't that damaging, but it's really annoying and takes some time to recover when all your tanks are charmed. Chainspell is rather damaging and Manafont, of course, means a wipe. But like other people have noticed, he usually does Comet a couple times before Meteor which gives plenty of time to Shadowbind and get away. Just a thought anyways. I know our LS has problems with people breaking Shadowbind cuz not paying attention.![]()
Derufin, what spells were you nuking the wynavs down with? Same element as day or just thundaga/blizzaga (if it wasn't iceday)? I realize you're leaning away from a reactionary AV, but is it possible that nuking wynavs with the wrong element could also trigger AV?
To Caveman, or anyone else whose done it for that matter, if someone took logs, could you guys post the order in which you got your two hours, and which were used in response? We meant to do this as well but the person I brought to keep logs ended up in the black mage outparty, so I did the best I could with a notepad while doing red magey things.

Some said they had some amount of success kiting AV with a couple of RDMs, but eventually they were killed. I'm wondering if it would be feasible to kite the Wynavs if you had a dedicated party to kiting, say of 4 RDMs and 2 WHMs for example, and each RDM took a turn fleeing with Wynavs. Do you think it's feasible to do this indefinetly?
On the other hand, if the Wynavs are nuked down, perhaps using Call Wyvern to match every 2-hour would lesson AV's attempts to resummon the Wynav's.
One of AV's moves is a Bard song that acts like Charm-Ga? Has anyone tried Merrow No.17's Locket to counter that? I seem to recall making players nearly 80% charm-proof on one of the assults. I know it's not a lot but if we use this item to cancel charm, then it's one less 2 hour we need to worry about.
