Why would it suddenly change in the March update? They wouldnt have released it till after the update if that was the case. Is there going to be a line where they say 'The Notorious Monster Absolute will no longer use the 2hours Manafont and Benediction'? Nope. SE has given their hint for the year of 2008, either:

    A. Someone figures it out and legit kills start to happen - causing AV to become solved and end up on farm status.
    B. AV shrinks into obscurity again and like the Almighty Apkallu becomes a an NM with good drops that never sees the light of day.
    C. We all sit and wait for 6months-1year or so for the 'item' mentioned by Sundi and co. that weakens AVs regen but doesnt solve the Manafonted Benediction problem.

Choose what you think will happen.

Question on this whole "2-hours reset" business.

Who cares if they reset if they don't do anything special for us right now?
Maybe the focus here should be finding the use for the two-hours, then finding the reset button.

Because it's meaningless. The DD were using 2-handed weapons because that's what they use. The rest were using earth staves to reduce damage. You are ignoring the obvious message of the video and looking for "secret hints," which almost certainly don't exist as SE is not that clever. Stop trying to be a hero.
It just makes me question why the only DD were 2h people. I know *why* they were using the weapons they were, just not sure why there wasn't a BB Mnk or a Rng or etc.

Maybe that's why the PLD in the SE video was tanking in such a craptastic set up. Koenig + Earth staff. For the alliance to let him tank in that, they had to have FAITH in their PLD.

Re: Absolute Virtue & You: A Learning Experience

I've spent some time looking over Demo's AV attempt logs (fights 4-7) and I have a few observations/thoughts/questions about the attempts.

Unless there is something I'm missing, AV uses a 2 hour every 1m20s on average. There are some anomalies, like in AV6 he goes an entire 2:58 seconds between using Chainspell and Call Wyvern. The minimum time between 2 hours seems to be about 50-55 seconds.

In some attempts it definitely seems as if he prefers certain 2 hours over others (something to do with the jobs of the local Aerns? I don't know).

Could it be that when SE talks about "fight speed" they don't just mean that we're killing it too fast, but also too slowly? It seems as if in AV5 Manafont occured because AV started to regen because people weren't damaging it enough. Which might also go to explain why AV does unpleasant things when people are holding it.

Looking over info about the AV flavor text when clicking on the ???'s to spawn the Al'Taieu Jailers, Absolute Virtue talks about tranquility, serenity, restraint, willpower, and rationality in relation to the Deeds required to spawn the Jailers. In light of SE's video, it seems logical that SE is dropping hints about the AV battle.

As a potential base strategy for fighting AV, maybe we just need to moderate how much damage we're doing to it (in conjunction to keeping it's regen down, and continually doing damage to AV)? No huge spike damage, go with the element of the day for nuking, regular melee hits and such. It seems like taking Wynavs aside to -ga them, taking damage off AV, may actually encourage inappropriate 2hr usage from AV (I just know someone was complaining that they couldn't keep many BLMs on AV if the bulk of them were concentrating on Wynavs).

I'd suggest taking a close look at that 2m58s where AV isn't using 2 hours, it seems like continual damage is being done and everything is going smoothly. The appearance of Wynavs seems to make the next 2 hour (Meikyu Shisui) occur at 57 seconds. Were people diverted to deal with the Wynavs?

Also, keeping at least one Wynav down, along with keeping AV calm, may encourage the next 2 hour to be Call Wyvern and not something more annoying.

It's human nature to look for patterns where none exist. There is no patterm to his 2-hour usage, it's random chance. And it's already been proven that the jobs of local Aerns have NOTHING to do with it.

Absurd. Manafont happens at random, pure and simple. It has nothing to do with kill speed. AV will use Manafont in all of the following cases: 1. if he is zerged 2. if you don't use job abilities 3. if you only nuke with the days elements 4. if you kill it at a decent pace 5. if you kill it slowly 6. If you do absolutely nothing but agro it and sit there.

    Do you see a pattern?

Those quotes don't shed any light onto anything useful. They also don't relate to SE's video in any way.

This is a textbook useless theory. There's no way to know how much damage is "moderate." And besides, the fact that you think doing so would somehow lead to no Manafont is completely illogical.

It's already been established that he will use Call Wyvern to summon the remaining Wynavs regardless if one or two is down. This idea won't encourage anything and is quite useless.

To summarize, your post is worse than useless, it is distracting from the ideas which actually MAKE SENSE. Posts like these are the reason why the mods have already given up on this thread.

I understand there's a lot of stupid people posting worthless stuff here, but I think at some point people are just jumping on anyone for the sake of being an asshole. He was saying that all things being equal, if at least one wynav is dead perhaps AV will prefer to use Call Wyvern over some other 2H. I've noticed this as well. Also I think he did a pretty good job of explaining what he meant by "moderated damage". I think looking at the rate at which 2Hs are used is a perfectly reasonable suggestion, maybe you should learn to be more charitable with other people's ideas.

For dealing with the wynavs, is it possible that they have similar proprities as the golem/statue NM in Dynamis-Qufim? I keep seeing "blms are running out of mp." If its necessary to kill the wynavs, it might be worth it to try tier 1 and 2 nukes/agas instead of just -aga 3's, they may hit for the same amount of damage.

Theres been a lot of bullying going on in general, but that's probably a side effect of the frustration of seeing just about everything tried going up in smoke. We're all in this together (well, everyone that wants to see AV dropped legitimately), so at least try to be somewhat civil, amirite?

I could have sworn that everyone keeps saying FFXI's "awesome" community is what makes it the best. Shooting down ideas and calling everyone "fucking idiots" can't be indicative of this seemingly-amazing community.

    They deserve to be shot.

I'm all for shooting down people who can't bother themselves to read the thread and bring up the same ideas that were not only terrible to begin with but suggested two dozen times already. However, it seems there are some people who are taking advantage of the fact that this thread has that kind of tone and just using it as an excuse to shoot down people's perfectly fine suggestions that are either new or rarely discussed.

I'm not talking about Sath btw, I tend to agree with the times he shoots people down lol I meant posters like Maytag above who are just laying into people for little good reason.

Criminals and idiots do deserve to be shot, yes, but not everyone who posts an idea is an idiot. Just stick them with the "Banished to the Allakazham" button or something. There's been a few good ideas here and there that have also been filed into the "you're a fucking idiot" file a bit prematurely.

Re: Absolute Virtue & You: A Learning Experience

I'm not just doing this for kicks... I'm sick of seeing this thread being destroyed by useless theories too. I have solid reasons for all my critisisms. In the case of the "moderated damage" theory, it IS useless because it is impossible to test. You can't test a vague theory where you don't know how much damage is too much or too little, and especially if you have no idea what RESULTS you should be expecting.

The only worthwhile theories are *falsifiable.* By that I mean that there is a predicted reaction, so that the theory can be proven wrong. Theories that can't be proven wrong are utterly a waste of time.

I'm not saying this to make others feel bad. I'm saying it because these are facts, and I don't want to see the testers waste thier valuable time anymore.

Edit: Remember the guy who said that equipping virtue stones *might* allows us to use repeated 2-hours? This is also a ridiculous theory, but it's about 100x more useful than the "moderated damage" theory. That's because it's very easy to test and debunk. At the very least, it will waste little of the testers' time.

I read this in a really old AV thread. Another LS had pointed this out as well. That AV prefers to call Wynav as his 2hr if they're not up. If this proves to be true it could be exploitable to the benefit of a testing LS. Kite 2 Wynavs off and just burn down the last one as he summons. Then each time he summons a single wynav, kill it off quick. Giving a higher chance that call wyvern will be recycled to the top of the AV 2hr list. (thus reducing chance of manafont)

As much as we like to bash on some of the stupid ass posts on this thread, this is something I would consider one of the more beneficial ideas for an LS. Reduces resource needs and increases safety of the fight assuming of course, that AV actually prefers to use Call Wyvern as his prefered 2hr when they're not up.

The thing is you're not the arbiter of what is and isn't useless. I've seen plenty of suggestions in this thread alone that I've thought were flawed and ridiculous and had pages of pages of people replying in support of several variations on them--even going so far as to yell at other LSs who didn't test them when they fought AV. But that's fine, it's not fun for me to read but it's expected, especially from an AV thread, just deal with, and as far as theorizing goes the one you laid into was pretty harmless. In my view, and maybe this is just my view, but posts that point out observations and suggest possible causes for them as that particular one did are fine, posts that suggest convoluted and silly elaborate theories are blah but expected, it's only the people re-posting convoluted, elaborate theories for the tenth time, or remarking on some stellar observation that had already been pointed out more than once by page 10 of the old AV thread who are the ones who deserve to have that kind of attitude handed back to them.
