Re: Absolute Virtue & You: A Learning Experience

Preface: I have not fought Absolute Virtue. I want to, but I really don't have a shell that's ready for it yet (EDIT: nor am I in gear or merits). But, I got to thinking. I've been reading this thread and the last one; I've read most of the ideas out there, and haven't run across this one... apologies if I missed it.

It sounds like there's a way to survive the first meteor; the 2nd and MAYBE 3rd might be survivable by the Paladins. The problem is keeping everyone else alive past the 1st meteor.

Most LSes will be coming with more than 18 people; I think that's pretty much a given, at least until it's learned HOW to beat AV... once that is known, low-manning becomes more realistic. With that in mind, keep the back-up parties out of meteor range. It sounds like 18 people can get him down to 87%~; let them do so. As soon as he mana-fonts, an RDM in each party pops Chainspell + Teleport X. Leave the alliance, main Pld tanking group brings back-ups in, hopefully within the window of the regen-recovery. Blms that the Rdms teleported warp everyone back, and group 1 waits to replace group 2 if AV Manafonts again.

I know, it's not what the Dev team did, but it should be a faster regrouping than a wipe, and might let people get back to him before he's back to full health. As I type it out, it sounds dumb. Maybe Chainspell + Stoneskin on Rdm tanks? It just seems that the huge problem is surviving 2 or 3 of them... or however many he launches. If the main group of tanks can survive long enough for a back-up 12 to get to them and keep regen from kicking in again, there may be an upper limit to how many meteors he casts. If nothing else, it might allow a survival through manafont.

Again, I haven't fought him. I don't know how well that could possibly work, especially with trying to two-hour counter him... it might just be that what you can do with your own two-hours will best AV?

On a butt-kissing note, this thread has been great. This is, I think, the first time I've seen people really WORKING at ideas, examining the data, and putting out plausibilities.

Seems like the Warp you've heard of is different than the one in FFXI.

30' from the target, can technically hit you from 50' if the target is 20' away. It's nasty.

Re: Absolute Virtue & You: A Learning Experience

I've read most of this thread, some of the others, watched the video a few times, and had my ass meteored by AV a couple times a while back. Anyhow, something occurred to me that may (or not) be useful, and I don't think I've seen it mentioned. If nukes of the day really do eliminate regen, but people are having issues keeping enough blms up to nuke and deal with whatever else, it might be worth checking to see if meleeing (with some other job, not a blm) with the elemental staff of the day can have the same effect.

The reason I think this might actually have potential is because I've verified that elemental staves can and will trigger TP moves from Djinns. After SE "fixed" the self destruct following nuke of the day, I got curious to see just what would happen now (could self destruct still be triggered at all, or just other TP moves, or nothing?) I was also curious if a staff could trigger it as well. I walked up behind an Ignis Djinn, poked him in the ass with my terra's staff on earth day, had an additional damage proc on the first hit, and immediately got blown the @#$% up. Fastest conclusive test result I've ever had.

Anyhow, if it works, it might be worth using on an emergency basis, or maybe even full time on light or dark day. Sorry I can't actually test it on AV myself at the moment.

Re: Absolute Virtue & You: A Learning Experience

Now I just had a quick question on the whole AV thing. I know we've used our 2hours and what not and it seems pointless. And I'm not trying to repeat things already said. Tho i was just wondering after using a 2hr (aside from that fact that they use them more than once and we cant) Do we notice anything? >.> like maybe the effect of his 2hr stopped? Not locked another, but stopped? Not sure if someone asked, i was following thread at first 10 pages then lost interest. Anyway just curious like only thing i didnt catch in this whole post. thx~

Meteor is instant. Fat lot of good stopping the effect of the 2hr when everyone is already dead.

i'm not sure if this has already been suggested but Just something i noticed, in the video they kited the wyverns, but didnt show where, it could be that they are taking them somewhere specific, ie rubious crystals from pm8-1 to do something with them there, not sure if this will help, but its something worth trying if your a kiter, especially cause the one that the blm pops out if in 8-1 is a short walk north.

I haven't, and I don't think anyone else has from looking at logs / videos, been able to rationalize a difference between the two, although I'm sure one exists.

Just need more info, more testing

Re: Absolute Virtue & You: A Learning Experience

im sure im going to get destroyed for asking this LOL

but in SE's video i notice everyone is standing in front of AV as much as possible anyreason why?
except for a whm who is off to the side and a blm who is always standing behind AV
THEY NEVER take dmg the entire fight
and you never see them cast a spell
im sure there is no reason for this
    and im grasping at straws

    just curious
and yes i know i have a low postcount
we all did at one time lol

Pretty sure they are two of the four people filming, with GM invulnerability set because they aren't participating.

and people are just getting more and more frustrated it seems

there is a specific reason AV can 'ready' or 'use' every 2hr. That is what people should be looking for.

Meh I disagree. More knowledge is always good, but iven if the "readies" are TP2H as has been speculated they only account for the smallest fraction of 2hr's used from chatlogs of people attempting so far. It's unlikely that figureing out the difference, or even locking "readies" 2hrs would have much effect.

If manafont always displayed a readies message then I would prolly agree with you, but the way it is, figureing this out seems to be somewhat of a non-issue.
