Re: Absolute Virtue & You: A Learning Experience

It looks like the color could be based on each 2H. Chainspell=Blue, Meikyo=Yellow, Mighty Strikes=Red(Yes there seems to be a red cloud too). This still seems odd to me, why not just use one color? and why does Astral flow seem to have the same color as Meikyo? Why does EES seem to have the same color as Chainspell...? I'm really getting tired of looking at vids and logs for now. This is all starting to feel like that movie #23.
I still think that using a 2H during his readies phase could do something we have not seen yet. It really hasn't been done by anyone.

Another project for log sniffing would be to see if AV has groupings of 2Hs based on HP%, i.e. odd or even numbers, it ties in with other monsters. Other than it seems unlikely because we're not supposed to know these %'s anyway, but that didn't stop SE from making Ultima use moves like clockwork at percentages. Finding a Benediction not on an even number would probably throw odd/even theory out, seeing as I don't think he has ever used a Benediction at 100% or really has a reason to. Just seems logical that IF it were grouped that way, Benediction would be on an even number's group. Never know though...

Re: Absolute Virtue & You: A Learning Experience

The color IS based on the elemental affinity to the 2-hour ability used.
In the DATs there are 8 swirl effects for 2-hour abilities for monsters, ROM/15/81 through ROM/15/88. You'll find that Absolute Virtue is not restricted to yellow and blue, as he will use the dark-based one during Blood Weapon in the various videos, namely Demo LS's video of the fourth fight. Many of the ones that look yellow are actually red, such as when AV uses Mighty Strikes.

I really, honestly, can't believe I'm about to post this... but we're already banging our collective heads against the wall, right? Right? >_>

Okay, the only reason I post this is under the assumption that SE really honestly hopes that we're clever enough to figure this out given the "clues" they've helpfully littered around the game world.

AV talks about being freed by the chains placed on him... who else has chains? I hear that Promathia dude does.

Obviously the dev video is showing us something with the 2 hours and the nuking with the day's element and all that jazz, we just don't know how it all ties together. I also note that there's at least one member of every race in the dev video. Could it be possible that when a member of a particular race reacts with their 2 hour it places the corresponding chain on AV? Sounds unlikely, but I don't know the race breakdown of any of the linkshells that have tried this, and I don't know if anyone has coincidentally/accidentally done anything like this at this point.

Anyway it's easy enough to test and prove/disprove at least.

So you're saying that having one of each race pop a two-hour in synchronization with AV would seal him somehow?

That's a fine theory but, they do that in the video and he still Chainspells the shit out of them. <_>

Re: Absolute Virtue & You: A Learning Experience

Well, they show multiple times where there are players reacting to the 2 hour usage. Maybe the first few times they're saying "we 2 houred, but we didn't do things correctly so AV is still using 2 hours." Alternatively it's not possible to completely prevent all of AVs 2 hours, but there's some way to do something to them to lessen their impact. It'd be nicer if you could see all the races 2 houring in the video to help back up what I'm suggesting, but I'm laboring under the assumption that SE is saying "2 hours do something. How you use your 2 hours you have to figure out on your own."

Solo worms without Ni, you'll know their range is under 30. 26' interrupts them.

29.9'(30') is correct, as far as my experiences go.

Yes, that seems to be what they're saying. But try not to come up with theories which directly contradict the video. The video is NOT a demonstration of what to do wrong.

Remember, they supposedly killed AV... which means whatever the method is to get around Manafont, they were doing it correctly. Please keep that in mind when scouring the video for theories.

Well is it "starting to cast" range or "run out of range so you don't get raped" range? D:

I could be wrong, its been so long since I soloed worms

Re: Absolute Virtue & You: A Learning Experience

I'm thinking if the answer is in there, then they might have had to cheat just to be able to film the odd sequences they wanted, with the chat logs the way they wanted. There is no proof the dev videos are not a mix of what to do AND what not to do. Why else would their BLM ever cast the wrong spell? They already told us not to do that. So to make that part of the strategy... well... You really just can't assume that everything you see is what you're supposed to do for the pure fact that people have already re-created it and have not noticed anything. If doing what they did in the video has some minor effect that we can't even notice, then people might as well just give up on testing anything, looking through logs, watching videos, and just focus on figuring out how to stay alive.

There's nothing about my theory that contradicts the movie, but there's very little that supports it beyond the circumstantial "there's one of every race in the alliance." I'd like to think that the idea at least has merit within the game lore and potential clue factor from the flavor text. It's certainly not too far of a stretch technologically for SE to have done something like that in the game mechanics, given that Promathia has race-specific actions tied to him as well. If anything at least it's easily testable without any strange requirements.

Can you post the 2hrs used by what race in the sequences listed in the video to add to the compiled data.

As stupid as shit like this sounds, I like it. I want to hear more about the sins, virtues, etc.. non "ffxi specific" se tends to follow alot of things from "Real life" and i think that these facts would help us in the right direction of forming more intelligent ideas. i'm all ears for that info if anyone has it.

Reminds me of that huge Alla post a while back on AV that said you had to line up the right job with the right virtue weapon with the right race and have them meleeing on the right game day or something like that.

Not quite. It's just that no one has tried anything against AV in the last week or so... and with no one doing tests, this thread has become bloated with useless theories.

Re: Absolute Virtue & You: A Learning Experience

I haven't played this game in about two years, but AV was one of the only things that really interested me in this game, so I think it's pretty cool SE released videos.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but take note of the range that everyone is when using two hours; and note the range the PLD is at when there is no response to his Invincible. None of the tanks seem to be using 2-hours to cancel AV's effects, simply as tools to pull hate, whereas the mage line always has people 2-houring.

Good luck with this, it's the most interesting thing FFXI has to offer, and I really hope there are linkshells pushing to be the first to kill this instead of farm their 20035th Dalmatica.
