This almost sounds like it might be a system that doesn't screw someone over who raids an area for months and then DCs for the wrong 90 seconds. I have no idea, though; never played WoW (I don't run Windows and my girlfriend would murder me for coming near her Mac with an MMO).

I agree that there are plenty of items that should be untradable, but it would be nice if there were some system in place to deal with the downsides. I don't know if GMs aren't supposed to help with this stuff because SE thinks it would add a lot to their workload, or because it's typical SE "Well, fuck you for giving us money" policy. The GM we talked to about that 35 claimed he would have liked to do it, but didn't want to be fired. I read some account of a GM using both people's "item restore ticket" to transfer some Fafnir thing between 2 players who were both there, but obviously that's not official policy.

Also...a friend of mine who quit recently said something along the lines of "It would be nice if a game like this were actually designed to encourage people to help each other out, instead of backstab and fuck each other over as much as possible." But again, at this point FFXI is the way it is, and I don't think you can make such a drastic change as the OP wants.

I know this is old as sky and what many others wish for but one thing I would like to see is more ways to store it and ability to store special armour sets like Assault/Salvage gear, Relic accessories and even Wedding dress set (not opaline, the rare/ex set that's been eating my inventory for the past three years and only gets taken out during valentine's day and anniversary including the ring). Throw in an option to store ANY rare/ex item from Nadrs to Joyeuse without them eating inventory and I'll be a happy bunny. I don't want to have to camp some random NM again every time I go level a job but I really don't want to have to hold onto the stuff all the time either. Also, something my boyfriend has always whinged about: ability to trade in BS/KS to the orb NPC like you trade ABCs to Sagheera would be full of win.

Removing EX tags is still a bad idea.

They could revert back to the way that it was before, but letting stuff like AF2s and abjurations be sold is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

(although I'd love to pawn off my K.Body to some gilbuying PLD for 10M.)

Re: How about getting rid of "EX" in EX gear once and for all?

And if you can't get it yourself, you don't deserve to have it.

EX gear is a reward for partaking in game content, and it's absolutely sensible that there should be some things no amount of gil can buy. A person sitting in town crafting for 3 years should not be able to go to the AH and buy a DRing, a Duelist's Chapeau, or an Amanomurakumo no matter how rich they are. They should leave Jeuno and go kill King Behemoth, or clear Dynamis zones to get to Dyna-Xarc, or go through the hassle of the relic upgrade, or otherwise go actually play the game if they want the payoff.
This is just beyond retarded. Some people don't enjoy the game for the same reason as you. I'm not in any HNM LS now, nor do I want to be. Yes, I still want to get items from kings, but just because I don't feel like wasting the time camping for a possible 3 hour window, I don't deserve to have it at all? I'm not saying I agree with taking the EX off items, because as everyone else said, that would lead to problems. Would I mind having a NPC sell these items at a high price? Not at all. Weren't some of the event yukata's buyable from an NPC and still Rare/EX? I don't see what would be wrong with that.

I hate leveling, and I hate camping, however, I love crafting. I enjoy that more than anything else in the game, but like I said, not "deserving" an item just because I wont spend the time AFKing in an Aery/Dominion/Valley, is just fucking stupid.

Re: How about getting rid of "EX" in EX gear once and for all?

I agree that a lot of people who don't parttake in king camping are deserving of the gear and items dropped off them (or other HNMs for that matter). However, I'd rather see SE introduce them in other instanced events - and no, Einherjar doesn't count, because Einherjar is a dirty whorebag with a droprate of .1% of the good stuff. Sticking abjurations on the land KS99s is a very old suggestion, but one I still think is viable. I love fighting big shit, and I love it when big shit drops cool stuff for me. I don't love standing around waiting for big shit to spawn, and not be certain I'll even get to poke said big shit, or if I'm just gonna have to watch the same botters have the fun over and over.

I just think introducing things with a higher price-tag ingame would just increase the demand over at IGE, and once again, the people who really deserve these things would have to work their butts off, while any scumbag willing to waste a shitton of RL cash for pixellated gil, can buy whatever they want in minutes.

Rare endgame items are to make you stronger against powerful monsters. If you never fight said monsters then you don't need these items, and that's why the system that SE has designed doesn't give them to you.

Re: How about getting rid of "EX" in EX gear once and for all?

My first reaction to reading that was a big "Wow..."

There are a ton of items that make kings much easier, I agree with you. But, with those said items, they could make solo or low man activites much easier. Shit is situational of course, but I'm sure there are some BST out there, who love that job and only that job, and don't want to level another job/don't have the time for it. I'm confident in saying that hands down, they would love to have an Adaman Hauberk. The majority of what BST do is solo-play, and that would be a huge improvement for them. While big items would give you, say a 10% increase in performance for end game stuff, it would give you a 30% increase in solo. [Random numbers, just throwing it out there to show there is an increase]

And honestly, how many times has SE's system sucked?

Re: How about getting rid of "EX" in EX gear once and for all?

I dunno I kinda wish there was more ways to obtain certain gear. But as it stands now we have to give up life, Commit to staring at a screen for hours on end and use a bot to ever get a chance to get a certain drop. Then we have to hope that were the LS that gets the 1% drop and that were the only one on who can use it and saved enough points only to realize we have to do it again and again.

Ohh well I guess. I have long came to the realization I would not have certain gear. I just am not that kind of player. I consider myself a middle of the road FFXI player, Not hardcore enough to get all the "OMFG!!" gear. But not a casual player who can't even get any decent dropped gear.

To me the problem with the EX is space. EX takes up space, lots of it. There are many little items, I'm not willing to part with, because I can never ge tthem again, that just clog up my slots.

There are a few quests I'm not doing on purpose, because it would net me more dead wait in the inventory.

I'd welcome an NPC stat stores EX (and expand the Event Storage NPC, I'd actually like to store the different Event belts and break them out for the Events, I'd also like to store the eggs from Eastern).

You know what? I want a DRing. I don't want one badly enough to stare at Elementals every day for 3 hours to get one. Thus, I don't deserve it. Would it make my life easier? Absolutely, no question about it. The sheer amount of time I'd have to invest in getting one is more valuable to me than 10% less damage taken. It's a tradeoff I think I'm on the right side of. It's absolutely fair that if I'm not willing to invest the time camping KB that I shouldn't get a DRing.

You want to craft? Fantastic. Your reward is basically being able to buy the best AH'able gear in the game. Some of that stuff is pretty damn good, now that you mention it. It's something I wish I could do, but I can't because I choose to do other things with my time than craft for gil. So while you're turning a few months of crafting profit into Dusk Gloves +1, a Kraken Club, or whatever that'll probably always be beyond what I can comfortably afford, I'm off getting a different reward for partaking in different aspects of the game.

Frankly, I think it's equally retarded that you think having a ton of gil means you're entitled to anything you want. EX items are tagged that way to signal that they don't (well, really shouldn't) have a value in gil, only a cost in effort and time. Sure, EX items get sold, but the original intent was always that they should be the reward given to the people who've been there and done that, and got the fuckin' T-shirt.

Let's face it, every MMO works the same. You want the best items? You gotta do the hardest stuff. For the people that doesn't sit well with, there are alternatives that are usually 90-95% as good that can be obtained more readily. If that last 5-10% is so important to you that you'll settle for nothing less, the only answer is to go out and get them, and invest the time just like everyone else.

Re: How about getting rid of "EX" in EX gear once and for all?

If you consider staring at thunder elementals/darters[or lack thereof]/raptors deserving an item, that's all you. Not everyone will feel the same way. I can put in the time to camp these things, but I just feel it's a waste. I play the game to have fun, and do random exciting shit every now and then, but praying that my group has the fastest bot out of the others camping against us doesn't really entitle you to anything. Every group has a bot, been there, beat that dead horse over 9000 times. The current HNM spawning system is flawed, we know that, SE knows that, yet nothing has been done to change it. Those same monsters people have been fighting for years have only gotten easier with each update of new equipment.

By all means, I don't feel I'm entitled to having everything I want just because I have gil. To be honest, I probably have less gil then most end gamers. I don't have anything outstanding for equipment by most standards, nor would I ever really post it because it's subpar to almost everyone else's on this board. Sure I constantly strive for better AH gear since that's what I'm limited too, but if it came down to blowing all my gil on having some fun bets with my friends, I'd be all over it. I don't want to lose sight of why I picked up this game, just to have the best gear in the world.

I'm just trying to get the point across that not everyone is going to agree on one way to have a system for obtaining items. I think most would agree on an instanced thing like the KS99 fights, and I'd be all for that too. Just grab a few friends, find some monsters that drop seals and kill them all day.

I like how you said that "if you want the best stuff, you have to do the hardest stuff". Honestly tell me, what's harder these days, killing Fafnir [without claiming in mind], or farming 10 million gil? [Yes, I know this analogy sucks, but hopefully you get what I'm trying to point out.]

I'm all for moving king drops to KS99 to remove the botting aspect, but you're still left with a situation where you need to be able to kill a moderately difficult monster, so you still need a network of friends with some degree of skill and passable gear.

And honestly, Fafnir's still harder. It takes a lot of time to farm or craft 10 mil, but it's still something you can do on your own. It's even moderately time-insensitive. Fafnir still requires a number of people to kill and has a time limit (which any competent group should never run into, but still, it's there), it's content which forces cooperation and coordination. Farming/crafting all day can effectively remove the multiplayer aspect of FFXI, Fafnir not so much.

It's really not fair to leave the claim out of the equation, since it would be a relatively quick process to cap out on Faf drops if you could kill him once a day without fail. It would probably still take longer than farming up 10 mil, but the competitive aspect is an inherent part of the difficulty, as designed by SE. Just sucks that they fail epically at server-side checks to prevent abuse via bots and whatnot.

See this is incorrect because the item doesn’t just materialize out of nowhere. Someone has to get the item for people to buy.

Right but if you could sell those EX items you use like once or twice a year then you’d probably do it. Buy back in the future!

The KS99 solution is not viable. Yes they can easily keep the claim into the equation by halving the drop rate. You’re still just as far from obtaining the item as if you were camping. But the illusion is “Yay we killed something, but aaww no drop. Let‘s try again tomorrow!” Sure it’s great for the LS who can never claim Fafnir but after they master Fafnir, they’ll be in the same boat as everyone else.

About people buying gil: Weren’t there some cases where people were banned by the STFU for buying gil? If that is true then you’d have to be out of your mind to buying tens of millions of gil for a relic weapon & raise a bunch of red flags for the STFU people.

Re: How about getting rid of "EX" in EX gear once and for all?

    Edit needs this:

    http://www.zgeek.com/forum/gallery/f...palm_thumb.jpg

Well since people told me to keep it civil, I will. Alright here's the down low of the entire thing, first I like to say that the chances of SE willing to do this is nil, and any additional outlets for hard to come by Abj. probably won't be out for another year or so, let alone SE getting right but here's where shit like hope comes to mind.

First the problem of easily exploitation of claiming said mobs.

This causes a lot of problems, namely monopolizing of NMs for the good of the LS or any said person, IE: Said RMT problem with monopolizing NMs. This is apparent with not only RMT but normal users as well, we'll take for example a common area such as Dragon's Aery.

If EX gear became sellable, we can see more campers at such high demand items such as Ridill, A bodies and E bodies, due to the ease of these NMs to kill with small groups, so not only large LSes will have to compete with other large LSes but small LSes/groups as well who wish to make a quick buck or two cause it can be easily assumed that such items are of high demand and thus a lot of people will pay top dollar for said items. This in turn has some adverse affects that aren't very apparent but the one at hand and has been discussed is people that buy gil, but not only that, RMT will most likely price manipulate as well, and in addition to that, high gil users will also keep prices relatively high for a long time.

The second problem is ill-deserving people with large wallets gaining access and buying top of the line gear. This itself will generate a lot of drama and friction within end game community, not like there is enough if it already, and something that doesn't seem very apparent with making all EX gear sellable. Not only that but the association with getting said item will lose it's worth in accomplishment, the feeling of gaining great gear is similar to gaining a bonus on a paycheck or winning a small sum of money.

The last reason this is a bad idea that I can foresee is the depreciation of the game of FFXI due to the after effects of both point 1 and 2. What happens to a game where everything worthwhile is camped 24/7 by not only RMT but normal users? Dragon's Aery is what, such a case is rather extreme however it's plausible by making EX gear sellable, but the only difference, now all good gear is fair game to everyone with a large enough wallet to buy said items.

By removing EX gear we go back to 2004 all over again with such NMs like VE and LE, which were camped by not RMT but actual users 24/7. It wasn't hard to pass by each area without seeing at least 5 users camping the NM since it was a high desired and sellable item.

That said, would I love to see EX gear sellable, probably since it makes getting items that no1 wants but is great for my COR easier, but additionally, I realize how bad of an idea that can turn out to be. Just because I'm a greedy cockface that wants things for myself, doesn't mean I shouldn't think of the adverse effects of such ideas. Is the system flawed? In some cases yes, and does need fixing, but some ideas aren't worth mentioning since it's a fucking bad idea to begin with.

Re: How about getting rid of "EX" in EX gear once and for all?

I think some items could be re-evaluated as bring ex possibly, sure. But all? That doesn't make much sense... relics are a blatantly obvious example (though it would be hilarious to see 1 person with every relic... >.>).

Of course, the entire item system in 11 is pretty fucked up anyway, so what the hell.
