    Nyzul isle.

In all honesty I can easily say the only time I've been more frustrated than this was when a charybdis for a LS member went yellow at 5%HP for no damned reason.

Nyzul is killing my group. We're farming the floor 20 HNMs and running out of time because of screwups and bad luck. Here's some of our problems:

1.) Gears. No matter what it is, we get like, a Specified enemy floor with 15 gears in our way. A floor that should take 1 minute endsu p taking 8.

2.) Specified Enemies. No matter what it's goign to be some hard to kill family, spread out on a big floor, like psycheflayers. Not only this, but our RDM has problems landing dispel. Does everyone have problems landing dispel on these? Or does he need better enfeebling gear? This can easily be 15 minutes for us, and it's rediculously annoying.

3.) Ordered Lamps. No matter what, we go through EVERY combination until only the LAST one possible works.

I guess I should post our setup :\

    PLD/WAR
    THF/NIN (SAM/WAR on non HNM)
    WAR/NIN
    DRG/SAM
    RDM/WHM
    WHM/BLM (Me).

Now, my question is, is it possible for a RDM to main heal Nyzul (Including HNMs) on a PLD tank? I really think if it could I would be better off going BRD or BLM for these runs.

The only problem with this is that our RDM's gear, well, sucks. I don't know if he has an MP set up for this crap, but his gear includes Royal knights belt, which I think is fairly useless for this. His other gear is mediocre, and could definately be improved for not much work at all. I really don't think at this point he can main heal with 600mp on a PLD for all the floors.

In all honesty, I feel like my spot and the RDM's are a waste of potential. Am I correct in this assumption? Should he get more MP gear and I switch to BLM? It'd help with aquan floors, that's for sure.

HNMs we kill in a reasonable ammount of time. We've killed 2 adamantoises, but lost time on both Fafnir and Behemoth around 19%. We started with about 6-7 minutes on each fight.

So, any helpful information would be hella useful. I'm tired of going 4 runs and only killing one HNM.

Ditch the PLD get a DD tank, WAR/NIN or something. You can't dispel psychflayers spikes. If you don't want to aggro gears, ranged attack them and you wont get a penalty if you have to "avoid being seen" or whatever.

Allright, WAR tank it is. Our PLD can switch BRD.

How founded am I in assuming a RDM can main heal a WAR tank and I can go BLM?

Should be fine, we go with MNK MNK BLU RDM BRD and the RDM main heals perfectly well and he also pulls and does other misc stuff. WAR SAM(or THF) DRG BLM RDM BRD should be a much better setup than PLD WAR SAM(or THF) DRG RDM WHM. Also the brd will be able to dispel flayer spikes, for what it's worth. If you do find yourself lacking healing can do WHM instead of BLM, but since flayers will be easier you'll likely start getting Ebody Pudding floors so a BLM will be helpful there lol

RDM can main heal a WAR tank just fine as long as both members aren't stupid. However, given some of your RDM's gear choices (Royal Knight's Belt?!) I have my doubts. ;P

    Re: Nyzul isle.

OUr latest perma is BLU/NIN, RDM/BLM, THF/NIN, BLM/WHM, RNG/NIN, and WAR/NIN. Most of the times the mobs are easy enough that our BLU, WAR, and me (THF) all solo a mob when it's all/specified. We have the WAR change to PLD/NIN for boss floors, that way we can control hate a little better. Nothing like wiping to a Spike Flail from a over-nukehappy BLM.

As for floors throwing shit at you time and time again, I think that happens to all of us. Our last attempt at 16-20 was Psychflayers without ninjutsu, Five lamps to be hit in order, then Chariots without destroying gears. Needless to say we made it through four Chariots before we ran out of time. Don't count on too many drops, either. We are lucky to get any drops from bosses, and that's with me having TH4. Our original idea was to spam feet floors until everyone was happy, but we've only gotten two drops out of 20+ boss runs.

1.) Gears. No matter what it is, we get like, a Specified enemy floor with 15 gears in our way. A floor that should take 1 minute endsu p taking 8.
learn to use range to pull the gears and kill them if you can't avoid them. Tell those melee just equip a bomerang instead bomb core.

2.) Specified Enemies. No matter what it's goign to be some hard to kill family, spread out on a big floor, like psycheflayers. Not only this, but our RDM has problems landing dispel. brd can dispell psycheflayer's icespike. And healer need to know to erase the bio from psycheflayer (the move called retribution or something?) as soon as possible.

3.) Ordered Lamps. No matter what, we go through EVERY combination until only the LAST one possible works.
Usually if there are 4 or 5 lamps. if you get 2nd,3rd or 4th order correct before you get the first and last lamp correct, it won't show up, due to how SE program it.

Either have the RDM go on a melee job, or ditch them altogether.

BRD, WHM, DRG, WAR, THF, <DD>

Having two healers is a waste, especially when a Dragoon could do exactly what the RDM is doing for less MP, and while participating in damage.

    Re: Nyzul isle.

PLD/NIN is great for Nyzul if he has DD gear. Homam, Hecatomb, etc.

    My static was:

    PLD/NIN
    SAM/WAR
    THF/NIN
    DRG/SAM
    RDM/WHM
    BRD/WHM

Easy everything. Being able to go from 1k Vorpal Blades to PLD/NIN tank on the HNMs made basically the whole thing a joke.

    Re: Nyzul isle.

on boss runs I got PLD/NIN and use DD gear until boss floor or if we get a kill all w/ stupid NM.

    My setup is:

PLD/NIN (or WAR/NIN for non boss runs)
SAM/THF (SAM/WAR on non boss runs)
    WAR/NIN
THF/NIN (BLU/NIN or WAR/NIN for non boss runs)
    BRD/WHM
    RDM/WHM

1: If you don't think you will have enough time for next floor, EXIT for tokens.
2: Lamps specific order are easy. If a lamp stays on, then it was turned on in the correct order. ie: A > B > C. B stays on... B is 2nd. Therefore C > B > A is correct order. Usually takes us 3 - 5 tries TOPS to get these done.
3: BRD makes sleeping mobs very easy. With a BRD, on kill alls, they can pull ahead of you. With gears, have BRD sleep and RDM sleep2 overtop of it. Our BRD focuses on pulling unless we fighting retarded NM.
4: Flayers spikes are dispelled by brds easily. Also as said above Tribulation (not Retribution) is the AOE flayer move with the 39/tick bio. Have BRD and RDM dispel around fast.
5: Flayers aren't that hard The only mob I hate for family in there is flans. Chariots are nasty, but not quite as bad.

Of course we have our fuckups (Cerberus Magma Hoplon over and over and over and over) (Cerberus Floor80 no job abilities) but we manage well. BRD makes nyzul isle a hell of a lot easier for some reason. Others may disagree, but thats just me.

    Re: Nyzul isle.

Personally I don't like using brd's for Nyzule Isle. Mainly because having 2 mages witih MP is very hand for Chariots, Frogs & emergencies.

    Our static is pld/nin, thf/nin, war/nin, rdm/whm, smn/whm & drk/nin.

Your setup is pretty good, i suggest you get your rdm/whm to pull. Reason being they can sleep gears. If your rdm has W.Legs, they can run around and deagro gears. Also, on some floors you can pull agros with ranged attack, and kill and not get penalized.

PLD/WAR (Switch to /nin and have pld wear DD gear when climbing)
THF/NIN (I suggest you keep Thf/Nin, since there strong on birds, accomplish is helping)
    WAR/NIN
    DRG/SAM (Drg/Nin, shadows are grea)
RDM/WHM (Bring ranged attack, and get them to pull_
WHM/BLM (Purchase Cleric Drinks for Flayers, rest as much as possible, maybe even stay @ the start of a lamp, if its just 1 mob that needs to be killed)

Something that might help your group, if you're using windower, use Fillmode 1 to turn the game into wire mode. You can see through the walls and scout ahead.

If you have any specific questions, PM me. :D

    Re: Nyzul isle.

    Our setup:

    RDM/BLM
    RDM/WHM
    BRD/WHM
    SAM/whaetver
    THF/NIN(Th4) (DD non boss)
    WAR/NIN

    Same setup every time roughly.

RDM/BLM for Sleepga in case frogs. RDM/WHM for status spells. BRD because it really helps melee/mages, Lullaby, Horde, Status spells. WAR can tank everything. NIN and PLD are a waste of a slot.

And I say that because of this:

Your melee are getting points, use them.

    Each boss floor we go:

    Fanatics
    Dusty Wing
    Body Boost

Make your melee get those, seriously and you will be fine. You will rape all bosses easily. Using two hours makes it a fucking joke. Only thing we have problems with is Cerb and having two hours down with under 8~ minutes. :/

Gears floors we sleep everything, even if it's "do not aggro them." If they in our way, slepe and run. Two rdms can handle this absolutely NO problem.

Have /whm RDM stay witht he group. /BLM rdm pulls. We've very rarely lost due to shitty floor combos, but yes it does still happen.

EDIT: To add, we've *never* wiped to a boss with the WAR tanking. Mostly because WAR and SAM will switch off hate and it works well.

    Re: Nyzul isle.

DRG THF BLU RDM WHM BRD is our normal set up.

You haven't seen sick until you've seen BLU mages with 11 MP / tick Refresh.

Also, feel free to poke at my guide in my LJ for more tips.

    Re: Nyzul isle.

The first problem is that it sounds like your RDM sucks. Royal Knights belt was fine back in 2004, Penitent's Rope is the current standard for MND and INT. Hell, Hierarch Belt has +48 MP and nearly free. A Red Mage can main heal in Nyzul Isle (I have done it, and generally my one group always has a RDM main healer), but the RDM has to know what he/she is doing, and ballad is a huge plus for it.

I go with two groups, I do WAR or very rarely RDM in one, and WHM or sometimes BRD in the other. WHM and RDM main healing both have their pros and cons. White Mages have stronger barspells (if you have the gear for it), sexy regens, stona, Devotion (BLMs come running for the great taste of Devotion), better cure efficiency, Divine Veil, a super-sexy light-based sleep spell, and (sometimes everyone needs it) higher Raises. Red Mages come with better enfeebling ability, Fast Cast, built-in dispel, refresh, higher potential refresh armor, convert, 2 natural sleep spells, and the ability to do a fair amount of damage in a pinch. Doing lots and lots and lots of Nyzul Isles (Floor 100 with one group, Floor 60 with another, both running concurrently) I honestly prefer to main heal with WHM- the thing I miss the most when main healing with WHM is Dispel.

Anyway, BRD is great for Nyzul Isle. Make the RDM shape up or dump him/her for someone who is going to put forth some effort into his/her gear. (Preferably a BRD.)

    Re: Nyzul isle.

If you're a good WHM and they're a mediocre RDM then poke the RDM to shape up or ditch them.

PLD/NIN can work if gear well but if you have the option, WAR/NIN is fine. In fact, WAR IMO beats NIN and PLD in Nyzul hands down.

When I've been WHM and had a RDM along, we've had them bring gear for nuking and sub BLM rather than take a BLM. So that we can have some cures, hastes, dispel etc but can if we need to throw some magical damage in there.

It's difficult when you run up against stuff like this, but you'll be jeopardising your shot at decent runs if you don't find a group that works well together.

I'm biased - keep the WHM, tune the RDM and bring a BRD

    Re: Nyzul isle.

Well, after reading a number of these testimonial threads about Nyzul, I figure I'll share what's currently working for us.

    Here's our normal party setup:

    WAR/NIN (well-geared/merited)
    NIN/WAR (well-geared/merited)
    THF/NIN (TH3)
    RDM/WHM
    BLM/RDM
    WHM/BLM

A friend that had been doing this for awhile told me that we had too many mages... but really, this setup works great. The only time we fail to advance 5 floors is basically due to bad luck.

We've been spamming the 20 floor bosses for feet and are 4/6 on drops (2x Askar, 1x Denali, 1x Goliard). Just need two more Goliard and we'll be moving along.

When we target a boss, the melees eat sushi and each grab a Dusty Wing. The mages all grab a Mana Boost. Non-boss floors melees eat cheap-kabobs.

My personal opinion is that a PLD/WAR is going to do nothing but slow you down. A TP burn setup is the best way to go, but you can swap out a melee DD for a BLM and be fine, imo. Also, it seems like a waste to go after a boss without a THF... unless you are just passing through, the only point to the bosses is to get the drops, why not maximize your chances?

    Re: Nyzul isle.

    My static is:

pld/nin (boss) /war (rarely blm when farming)
    sam/war
    sam/war or war/sam
    thf/drk (boss) drk/sam (farming)
    cor/dnc
    whm/brd (me)

you may want to try /brd in nyzul. you get ballad 1 for yourself and minuet 2 for melee (not much of a bonus but every bit helps) and you get brd dispel. It's also nice having lullaby for sleeping skeles when repose isn't up.

if you trust your rdm enough to main heal, then go bard as having a blm along is really only good for custards and mousses. One of the sams used to go blm but he was spending a lot of time on his butt resting mp (kill all floors)

    Re: Nyzul isle.

    Setup I go with is
    NIN/WAR
    NIN/WAR
    THF/NIN (TH4)
    DD (MNK or DRK)
    RDM/WHM
    BRD/WHM (me)

Healing tends to be fine. Sounds like the OP's RDM just plain sucks.

Do occasionally run into problems with restrictions or unlucky combos of floors/boss TP moves or whatever, but that's how it goes.

Melee/tanks snagging items is very helpful.

BLM is only situationally good. Most of the time they just don't keep up in terms of damage considering the time constraints.

    Re: Nyzul isle.

We usually go with two tanks, two DD's and two healers. The tanks are either NIN and NIN or PLD/NIN with Excal and NIN. The DD's vary between DRG, THF (on boss floors for TH3), DRK, BLM and SAM, and there's always at least one RDM and a WHM. We briefly tried stacking for certain floors, but we've discovered that a well balanced group works best for us, and the balanced setup leaves us most capable of adapting to whatever scenario we get encountered with. It also allows us to split into two independent groups on "Kill All Enemies" floors.

Regarding the OP, you could go w/o a WHM if your RDM doesn't suck, but it sounds like he does. I've tried main healing on my RDM on boss floors, and it's rough, and I'm well merited and well geared. Maybe a BRD + RDM would work, but we don't have access to a BRD.
