    POL3001 - Unable to get further then 'downloading data'

    Since this morning I have had this problem and since I got some good help here last time, I figured I'd ask for your help again.

    I was doing some assaults, we completed the mission and got ejected from the area. Got stuck in the downloading data-screen. Tried to log into my main character several times, but no luck. Logged into a mule, which worked, and called a GM. GM couldn't really help, advised me to call service support. (Waiting for them to go online, but I doubt anything can be done.)

    Logged in again a few hours later, could log in on my main character, until after a while, I got the same problem while zoning again. (Different area.) Gives a 3001 error, no response from server.

    Was hoping someone knows what causes this, or maybe people have had similar problems in the last few days. Thanks in advance.

    Just go open your ports so that you can save time when you get a hold of someone.

    Did you recently enable a Firewall or IP-blocking program? Anything change with your router?

    Yes, I moved and got a new provider and new modem. (Should have mentioned that before I guess, as I can see why it would be possible that the problem is in this.)

    However, how I can set it so that this problem doesn't occur again? Any settings I can change. (Some friends of mine play FFXI with the same ISP without problems by the way, and I didn't have these issues last week or the week before when I already used this new ISP.)

    Again, I appreciate the help.

    edit: same problem occured again after about an hour of play. Reset my modem and it worked again. Hope this gives a clue of what I can change to my connection to get it to work. (Besides restarting my modem every hour. )

    Yes, it would help to know these things

    Anyway, it's likely the default settings on your new router either has a firewall enabled which is blocking FFXI from communicating with your computer, or it's just a matter of not having ports forwarded. Your router should have a section to forward ports, check the POL website for what range you need to forward (there are a lot of them)

    Portforward.com has a walk through section to set up ports for games and how to do it with a router and or modem.
