Most Overrated/Underrated Actors

90% of the people posted in "underrated" are regarded by most people as excelent/decent actors... so how exactly is that underrated?

Underrated Actors imo...

Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf, Eric Lensherr)
Ben Foster (The Punisher, guy with all the shit in his face, 30 days of night, Angel in XMen3)

Ben Foster was so awesome in 3:10 to yuma. And I totally agree about Williams. A lot of people get annoyed by his comedy acting, but in serious roles, he is actually very good.

But I gotta say, Huge Jackman is a terrible actor, sure he looks like Wolverine, but he's just not very good at acting in my opinion.

I strongly disagree, but thats probably because I've seen him in roles beyond film. Saw him in "The Boy from Oz" on Broadway and he was just amazing in it.

He was also very good in The Prestige, then again it could have been Bale's doing.

He's also amazing in Hostage, and if you haven't seen that, go see it. Very underrated movie.

If the actor has won an oscar, he's not underrated. If the actor plays a major role in an extremely popular film series (Bond, Batman), he's not underrated.

Been reserving my opinions for the effect of trying to actually pick someone underrated.

I think that Channing Tatum actually has talent, despite being generally in roles that would be satisfied with a guy that looks like a model. He was quite good in "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints" and I'm curious what roles he'll be able to land. He has a shitload of stuff in production, including playing Duke in G.I. Joe. (oddly enough it will be the 2nd time he's played a character named Duke)

I'm not saying he's great, but I think he can overcome the model/actor stigma. I used to call him "tights" for his one-liner in the "Step Up" commercial.

After having ample time to think about it, I'd like to add the fallowing. Now some of them are quite well known and have been in a few big productions, but I feel they, on the whole, do not get the appreciation they deserve. And some them were influenced by other posters .

Forest Whitiker (though with his last movie one can really take him off this list and move him down to the next catagory)

Overrated:
Jessica Alba - she cant act her way out of a box. Her and Rosario Dawson, who I normally like, were the only two people who broke me from Sin City with their poor acting.

Angelina, she can be good, but she's becoming more of a typecast of herself with each movie, as is her hubbie.

Really you can add almost any Hollywood person whose job is to sit there, look pretty, and sell the movie to this list. There are so many...
